    @ChaseTheSummit to answer your question, "Mafate" is a caldera located on Réunion Island, a French Island in the Indian Ocean, and also famous for it's "diagonale des fous" ultra-trail. Mafate is also the name of the maroon slave leader who discovered this remote and hardly accessible place.

    Finally we see the Mont Blanc Boa in a detailed video! I love the Boa system to tighten it super tightly to my feet for those technical trails down. So 0 slipping around in the shoe. I also think the shoe is probably completely worn down before the Boa system breaks.

    Did you find the narrow toe box of the Hoka vs the Altra to be a problem?

    I had to glue my insoles in on my regular Mont Blanc’s as well. I love mine and am currently on my 3rd pair. I love the regular ones so much that I never even tried the BOA version.

    Unfortunately. Altra does not only sell zero drop. They released a 4mm drop shoe recently. The rep told me 'but we still make all these zero drop shoes' when I expressed my concern the brand would lose its way.
    I left politely, thinking of the many runners who want a proper low profile altra again (just as part of the line up!). The original lone peak was like 17mm stack (or something) the current is 25....

  • @bev9708
    @bev9708 Před 9 měsíci

    Actually I bet you are fast compared to many of us!😂 In any case personally I really appreciate views from more average runners even though as you say we’re all soooo different !! It’s all food for thought !! I laughed out loud when you said cheaper for a $180 shoe!!😂🤷🏻‍♀️ Me I only ever buy shoes at 1/2 price!!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I know it! $180 certainly ain't cheap but compared to the Carbon shoes they feel like a bargain! Thanks for watching!

    Own the Altra Vanish Carbon too. Just use them for sub 4 marathons. As you said not really durable. Had to remove some kind of stabilizing fabric on the inside of the front of the toe box. It came loose and caused blisters. Also the black fabric stripes left and right inside the shoe can cause blisters. In the end the shoe gets the job done but it's heavily overpriced. Luckily I got mine on discount and paid just around 140 €.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Congrats on the sub 4! Yeah, the Vanish Carbon is a weird one. I love it but I also get frustrated with it lol. The durability isn't great and the price is high. But, man... it rides well once you find your stride!

    Altra FWS is a model with drop now, shame that they go to main stream and will lose trust since their durability is also going down rather quick. Might want to test the Topo models also ;-)

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      Unfortunately it seems like they try to keep it bland with niche sized shoes to appeal to the masses! I know the struggle though... My feet don't fit every brand!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 9 měsíci

      Nike's don't fit my clown feet all that well so I typically don't wear them. I should try some of the newer models though!

      @@ChaseTheSummit thanks for your response. It just confirms that we all have different feet and different requirements for shoes. I feel the same way about certain shoe brands like Brooks. I tend to have blisters from wearing them. Cheers

    I like the Hoka speedgoat 5. I like that Boa idea. Since you like Hokas, are you familiar with the speedgoat? If so, how do you think it compares to the one with the Boa system?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I've got the speed goat 5's as well. Great shoe but they oddly don't fit my foot great so I don't bring them out for longer runs. The Mafate's have a wider last and fit me better. That said, they're a rock solid shoe and worn by tons of pro's. It would be cool to see them add a Boa system!

    What are your options on the Hoka Clifton 9 or Speed Goat 5? Those are my current shoes.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I've got em both and like both quite a bit. For some reason I find the fit of the Clifton and Speedgoat to be a little tight in the midfoot which gives me some arch fatigue over time. But I have weird shaped feet and likely need to try their "wide" sizing. Great shoes if they fit you though!

    @chasethesummit How do you account for the difference in drop between your Hoka and Altra shoes when you swap from one to the other, or do you not really feel a difference?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 9 měsíci +1

      For me I don't notice a difference as long as the drop isn't too dramatic. Anything under 5mm feels similar to me though zero drop is certainly noticeable it hasn't lead to any injuries or anything. It would be a different story with a 10+mm drop.

    Altra, or more precisely the Timp model, has recently disappointed me with its very poor durability. both the upper and the sole fell apart prematurely. this prompted me to experiment with the Swedish brand Craft. Better known for trail running and cross-country skiing clothing. But they also make shoes. and these shoes are fantastic. I recommend it if you ever have the opportunity to try these shoes.
