2022 Honda CRF250R: Chasing my buddy Nick at Briarcliff MX!

- Riding my 2022 CRF250R at Briarcliff MX today and having fun chasing my buddy Nick who is riding a '22 KTM 450SXF. Always fun riding dirt bikes with good friends. I was not comfortable on a few jumps especially with the wind today and a few ruts but Nick was having no issues. The '22 CRF250R was super fun to ride today. The updated '22 CRF250R engine finally has enough low to mid power for a slow Vet rider (like me!) to go along with a super fun mid to top end pull. Plus there is very little engine braking. This engine combined with the awesome cornering, lightweight and agile handling peg the "Fun to Ride" meter! Ride Red!
Some highlights of the video (even slow guys can have fun!):
1:35 I take the inside line to get by Nick
2:30 A rider jumps between Nick and I and I totally loose my focus and missed the next double jump going into the rollers so Nick blows by me. Nick is also doing to step up jump after the rollers (I chicken out!)
3:20 Nick figured out my inside line so I had to pass on the outside
4:25 Nick takes the faster inside line in the big rollers and passes me at the end of the section…my mechanic never signaled for me to take the inside line in the rollers!;)
4:55 I work the outside line (since Nick figured out my inside line) and pass Nick back
6:15 Nick gets by me again
7:00 I try to take the outside line but Nick is having nothing to do with it and roosts me on the start straight!

Man, that looks like a lot of fun on that track! Back and forth with your friend....i miss that, almost all my riding buddies quit when they got "old". I am way past 50 and still loving it and always looking forward to seat time!

I really like your videos of how you make comparisons with different motorcycles. which mic you use for the go pro when you ride. that your comments are heard very clearly when you are in action. I shoot videos in Mexico but we make comparisons of motorcycle products.
I use the GoPro 3.5mm mic adaptor for my GoPro Hero 7 Black and TNE microphone.

Epic ride. If your hips don't hurt after those hard hits on hard clay, suspension is perfect. Look at that CRF turn like a Suzuki!:)

Are you running stock suspension with 4.8 and 50 Nm/mm springs front and rear? For mixed track and wood riding liked you do, do you think that I need to order my new CRF250R with stiffer springs? I am at 190 lbs without running gear.
Yes my '22 CRF250R has stock springs as you noted. I am also 190 lbs before gear. For me the stock springs are plenty stiff but I am a slow Vet guy and prefer softer springs (softer than most people recommend) since I ride light moto and woods. The 2008 CRF450R is considered one of the best overall handling bikes made and it had 4.6N/mm fork springs...a 450 that weighed about 12 lbs more than the '22 CRF250R which has 4.8N/mm springs. Seems like everyone wants stiffer springs these days. My recommendation is ride your new '22 CRF250R for 2~3 hours to fully break in the suspension then decide if the spring rates are OK for you. Enjoy your new CRF250R!

Curious to ask. Have you ever rode a 2020 yz250f ? If so do you think the Honda would outperform that bike? Is the suspension a way different feel from that bike?
Yes I have a lot of seat time on a 19/20/21/22 YZ250F thanks to my buddy Dave that buys new ones every year. Yamaha has steadily increased the damping to reduce chassis pitch under braking and acceleration. I like the feel of the 22 YZ250F the best to date. I prefer the wider rear rim/tire combo for better traction and the latest damping setting keeps the bike more balanced. The YZ250F is all about mini 450F like power and plush KYB suspension and unique ergos. The 22 CRF250R has a very broad power that is strong in mid range, lightweight and agile handling with great cornering, perfect ergos, and a firm suspension setting that will need a re-valve for most riders.
Nice video! I think I met you at Briarcliff in 2020. Were you riding a KTM? I was riding a CRF450L tank of a bike. Just bought a 2020 CRF450R and love it. Took my first track ride yesterday at Route 62 outdoors. I plan to go to Briarcliff this year. Has the track changed much since 2020?
Glad you enjoyed the video! I go to Briarcliff a lot so good chance I have met you at some point and look me up this season too! Briarcliff has a new layout for both the A-track and C-track since 2020 and maybe more changes this year? Jimmy has Route 62MX dialed - rode the indoors and outdoors this past Tuesday!

Did you consider purchasing the YZ250f? What swayed you to the Honda?
My good buddy Dave (and his son JD) are nice enough to let me spin laps on their 22 YZ250F....and everytime it makes me want to buy one! I bought the '22 CRF250R because it has the all new chassis and big updates to the engine so I was very curious how it worked against the YZ250F. Plus the CRF looks so good! Funny thing is my buddy Dave bought a '22 CRF250R after riding mine! But we both still like the blue bike too!

@@ridendrive If you like plush suspension and a compliant chassis get the YZ250F. If fun to ride and lightweight/agile handling are more important to you get the CRF. The YZ will always feel more comfy from a suspension/chassis point of view but never feels as light and agile as the CRF. The CRF will have a firmer suspension/chassis that will work better the faster you go. Comfort go YZ....fun to ride CRF. I could have bought a 20/21 YZ250F many times and never did so to answer your question I would still go with the CRF. Remember I still have a 21 KTM350XCF Kailub Russell Edition in my garage too...still my favorite combination of power/weight/handling in a 4-stroke dirt bike;)
I don't consider u a chicken..the camel back on the landing is tricky and scary if u case..those long rollers always give me so much trouble..u got better each lap in that section I liked the video

Yes. Jeremy started sessions (4 groups) around 12:30 I think and I was riding the C group.
