    I come from a Windows background (since early 90s), so I know a bit about PCs, and it's great to see a Chrome OS review "for newbies", but without it being too dumbed down. You got the balance just right. Many thanks :-)

      Lol dude I got you beat when I started I only had aol and 144bud modem to get online VGA display and sound blaster sound card Yes that's right All those are extra options some time I have to setup IRQ so they won't interfere with each other but that was the fun in trying to figure those out and install driver on window 3.0 no plug n play next step probably will be brain interface which is a helmet like device to wear and can interact with PC maybe even it will devices hook up to our sense kinda like a VR games so with Chrome os been in the cloud my grandson is probably going to spend his life in the VR cloud for school,fun and date 🥰🤪who knows what is going to happen in the future and when I started I be happy I have a 144byte connecting speed gigabyte speed sounds like a science fiction novel

    Love ChromeOS and Chromebooks. I've been running virtually everything through Chrome OS for a number of year's now, but since the pandemic hit and we've been working from home for nearly a year now my Pixelbook Go has supported everything I do for my work. Connect it to a remote work desktop and I don't need anything else tbh.

    I was a long term windows user ( I am 66 and have had a personal computer since the commodore 64). I was running windows 7 on my 12 year old pc. It was so slowwwww! I just bought a chrome book 2 weeks ago and I love it. I am convinced that the majority of pc users would be better off with a chrome book. I was worried that my excel and word apps would no transfer over but they work great on Google docs. Besides all this it is much more economical.

    PS : Running on my budget gaming laptop on dual boot with windows 10.
    And I am loving it. Sure serious gaming is missing but for most people it is good. Hope google brings inbuilt app store to download desktop Linux apps. That would be really good

    I tried using Chrome OS via triple boot on my 2014 HP laptop with Pentium N3530 CPU, 4GB DDR3 RAM, and 500GB SATA HDD. It was painfully slow to run games in it. More than that, some mobile games like Real Racing 3 can't be installed in Chrome OS. So really, Chrome OS is nothing more than just a glorified RAM-eating Chrome browser with Android tablet app support.
    To be brutally honest, I'd rather buy a flagship-grade smartphone that has Desktop Mode capability like Samsung, LG, and Huawei instead of a Chromebook laptop.

      @JJFlores197 Před rokem +1

      I honestly would just get rid of that PC at this point. Even though ChromeOS is pretty light weight and can run on older systems, that's just too old. Browsing the web (the main purpose of a Chromebook/ChromeOS) will likely be very slow and not worth it. ChromeOS Flex requires at least 4 GB of RAM.

  • @DaveSimonH

    6:15 "The only apps that will run are Chrome addons, chrome plugins or android apps".
    I'd say that already wasn't that limiting, but now long after the release of this video, add in the option of installing full Linux desktop applications. It adds up to Chromebooks being fairly versatile, affordable computers.
    I've actually been looking at Chromebooks for more of a media consumption device, to replace an aging Android tablet (that market has shrunk & feels stagnant). So for my purposes, using the android apps (or the chrome browser) will probably service most of that, but with the added option of installing some desktop Linux apps (if say I wanted something like GIMP photo editing).

      No OS is safe to be honest regarding privacy. Apples' ios, mac os ,google's android ,microsoft's windows etc.
      Chrome Os has no virus because its a mobile os. I think thats it. I dont think its any safer when it comes to privacy because we still give various access to the apps.
