Many of us at some point in time have had a computer start acting very strange; there are a lot of threats out there, and many come in the form of viruses. Computer viruses got their name because they act like viruses, and replicate. They infect lots of files on a machine and can be spread to another machine by doing thing things like sending files to someone else, or using an infected USB drive on another computer. Then you have worms, adware, Trojans, and Rootkits, which are hard to detect and can give attackers control of your machine. Perhaps even more frightening are ransomware attacks, where someone gets ahold of your data, sometimes sensitive data, and makes you pay to get it back. Today we’ll look at some of the biggest attacks on computers, in this episode of the Infographics Show, The world’s most dangerous computer viruses.

Other than Windows 10 removing my old documents for 'to make stuff faster', I've never got a virus before, mainly because I am pretty smart.
Although, one of my friends did get Wannacry (probably from North Korea).
Oh, by the way, the type of viruses you talked about was ransomware like Wannacry, Petya, etc.
Installed an application and it came with like 20 other useless adware computer got slower and slower each day pop ups everywhere by then I knew it was too late
before a virus attacked me and my laptop started lagging

Interestingly enough, I was almost infected by a nasty bit of malware from a game CD I had bought off of Amazon that I wanted to use to install a game from my childhood, but ultimately my AV detected it as malicious. This same disc which was used on a friend's computer afterwards, not heeding my warning, were soon after infected from attempting to run the install. So I guess that's another way malware can be spread.

Yes this is the worst one. It has effected at least 1/8 of the population. Many people are devastated because of this. Everyday they ask to their mother, “Why did you do that?” And the mother replies, “Cuz ILOVEYOU”

I actually remember, our family computer in around 2004 got the Bagle virus. To this day, it hasn't been removed from that PC as it spread to like everywhere.

Imagine making a virus that just gives people a cool animating cursor and click effect
I have a mac, and I wanted to download a game.
I didn't know how, so I watched a tutorial.
I followed the link they had and downloaded the file.
I opened the file.
And then there was a message on my terminal.
I didn't read it.
1 second later, I had so many windows open that I couldn't see what they were, except the last one
It was chrome, filled with tabs.
The names were: cry, escape, die, ETC.
Somehow, it didn't lag my computer.
So I spammed command and Q.
And in a few seconds, the windows were gone.
There were a bunch of files in the downloads folder, so I highlighted all of them and threw them to the trash.
It took a few seconds, since it was maybe 100 or more.
The malware was useless against a mac.
I was so worried that it would be the end.
That is my story, don't fall into the same trap as I did.

I am LUCKY AF that I was so incredibly scared. (Context after you read) So my friend told me there was this new character added to a tv show we both used to like. I decided to search that character up, being a bit interested. I clicked a link to learn more about it. Suddenly I was reading a notice on my screen. It was so long ago that I don't remember the exact wording, but it said something like this. 'A virus is being installed into your computer. Click OK to stop the virus from running.' My mom later told me if I hadn't closed the tab and hit OK, the virus would have most likely installed into my computer. I don't know/remember what it was called, or what it would do, but i was LUCKY.
I had a virus after using a gif file in my OBS software and it made my computer crash and the mouse would move with trails only, I got rid of that file straight away, that was the other day. Also had the empty folder bug on my desktop which I got rid of by deleting certain keys in my registry in Win 11. Great video btw :)
The empty folder bug in Windows 11 creates thousands of folders without anything inside of them.
Folders appear inside C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local.
You must have admin privileges to access these folders.
The empty folders begin with “tw” and end with a “.tmp” extension.
How to Fix the Windows 11 Empty Folder Bug
If you have admin privileges, you can delete the empty folders without causing any issues.
Doing so will make them disappear temporarily.
However, as soon as you restart your computer, the files will come back.

I've only gotten a virus once. It was a Trojan virus and I think it probably took me a month or something to find out.
Kind of sucked that I had to do a 1-2 hour virus scan of my whole computer to find it, I'm glad it didn't do major damage to my computer

i got one today i need to run a full scan cause ms defender couldnt defeat it and it has hidden itself somewhere ;-;
I also got a trojan that corrupted some of the most important thing's on my pc. My pc got so slow that when i wanted to search anything it just froze and after 10 min of waiting it only showed search the web for (e.x.) settings. my task manager wouldn't open. window's virus and threat protection got deactivated and it even prevented me from formating my pc and encrypted all my files. It said in a text pay $980 to get them back. i found a way to format it and it's finally fixed but all my data is lost
My grandpa got hacked on Facebook today he fell for a scam and his name was changed to Chris the hackers told him that Microsoft had locked his computer and to call the phone number on the phone there was one of the hackers he said that Microsoft will unlock his pc for $100.00. I think it is funny his name was chris

The thing about viruses is often that they aren't malicious, but that they spread so fast that they overload servers' ability to process all the data. So much power is used that servers can overheat and literally catch fire. It's so common that you can do it with any messaging program. Messenger has been hit with it multiple times. Simply changing your Facebook password can fix it, but by the time you catch it, everyone in your friend's list will be hit by the spam.
I'm speaking from experience and it happened to at least one of my friends.

One time a friend of mine showed me a cool Chrome extension, and accidentally installed the wrong one that was actually a clone of the correct one, but with one difference. I started seeing ads all over the place, and looked up the keyword on all the ads, and apparently it was a common adware out there often put in Chrome extensions.
So in other words, never trust someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing to download sketchy software.

I know at my job I usually get rid of viruses manually by checking every file for its traces and wiping it, but those are small viruses that don't really do much, maybe slow the computer down a bit or so
