the one who made a comment sa huli na "ganun pa rin dati. (laughs) ganyan na ganyan ang sayaw nila nung january sa sinulog". eh kaya nga aliwan festival kasi ang concept is to bring the champions of the festivals to manila. you would expect the same choreography. eh dinagyang nga eh, ganun lang din ang sayaw nila. ang changes lang na ginawa nila ay i-squeeze yung original performance nila to the aliwan requirement of 5 to 6 mins performance. sa mga napanood ko sa dinagyang performances sa kanilang lugar, aabot ng 9 to 11 mins yung performance nila. if you browse lumad basakanon's performance in sinulog 2014 in cebu compare to this performance, you would definitely see a lot of changes. they infused their 2013 sinulog performance to this routine. you don't see those wing props in their 2014 sinulog performance. dami ngang nabago sa choregraphy at sa steps nila pati yung sequence of props. i think it's UNFAIR to say na ganun pa rin ang performance nila kasi di naman sila nagpeperform sa Aliwan nung 2013. I don't favor one festival over the other, i love both dinagyang festival and sinulog festival. Each has their own distinctive character. Having said that, it makes them unique. Sa nag comment dyan na ganun pa rin, ano? nga-nga? :D
To be honest... Excuse me.. are we cebuanos that cheap?? sinulog dancers won not because dinagyan contenders weren't there.. cebu dancers won because of the amazing dance (goosebumps)..! >:D
I've noticed while watching a video of Dinagyang Festival, there were no bashers or sour grapers posting foul comments whatsoever.. When I looked at the comments here, there's a lot.. Haha It only shows the insecurity of some people. CEBU and the Cebuano people have nothing to prove. The track record of Lumad Basakanon speaks for itself, no need to argue about that, being champion in the Aliwan festival thrice with the Dinagyang festival around. They (Dinagyang) simply couldnt beat them (Sinulog). That earned them the title "Hall of Fame" in Aliwan Festival. 😆. Yes, indeed Dinagyang became champions too, but during the time Lumad Basakanon didn't compete... (Let's give them a chance) haha😆😆😆 And yes Dinagyang is competing internationally to showcase the Filipino festival, good job. However, the Sinulog festival doesnt need to do the same, for it is popular already being known as the GRANDEST Festival in the Philippines. That's why foreigners and local tourists visit us every January instead... Aliwan 2008 was controversial. Tribu paghidaet sana ang panalo kaso nilaglag ng tatlong judges while four judges in favor sa dinagyang. Magaling naman lumad basakanon pero sadyang napakasigurista nila sa panalo.

Tribu Himag-ulaw of Masbate on 2010, 2011. Tribu Lingganay of Leyte on 2012,2013. Buyogan Festival of Abuyog, Leyte on 2015. ETO AND PINAKA-FAIR AT UNBIASED NA COMMENT KO BASED ON HISTORY OF THEIR PERFORMANCES. it's not about the competing contingents that drag Lumad Basakanon down from joining the Aliwan. It's a matter of budget and performance. After their last Sinulog Cebu Championship in 2008 and Aliwan Championship which made them grandslam winners in 2008 (grandslam 2006-2008), it was also their last participation in Aliwan. I witnessed Lumad Basakanon's STRUGGLE to keep their distinct and unique choreography evolve in Sinulog Cebu Stage (2009-2nd, 2010-2nd, 2011-did not place, 2012-4th, 2013-2nd, 2014-champion). They can't edge out new competitors. Starting 2009, dance steps were no longer given a distinction as the FOCAL POINT of the performance. Lumad Basakanon tried to stick with their dance routine (minor changes) with minimal "props" and it did not made a "lasting" impression from the audience and judges. During that time, heavy use of props were the "IN" thing not until recent years when people try to made side comments that most performances where just a "props show" rather than dance steps and got bored watching those display of props in the stage. Lumad basakanon took advantage of that by infusing balanced use of props and dance steps in the stage. I thought they can still evolve their old unique circular formation and dance steps to a whole new level. These "dance steps" which made them known as Lumad Basakanon. I think their past performances in the Sinulog stage prevented Lumad from joining the Aliwan and also the budget. I'm not sure how true it is with regards to Hall of Famer thing in Aliwan that even if you earned that distinction, you can no longer join Aliwan. The reason they join the Aliwan this year is I think their performance is excellent and has a chance to "WIN" as displayed in Sinulog 2014 and not because contingents from Leyte and Dinagyang did not join. Tinalo nga nila yung Placer Masbate sa Sinulog Cebu 2014. Placer Masbate was a former champion for 2 years during the time when Lumad struggled with their performances to keep the championship. From my point of perspective, if you feel your contingent has chance to win, you would know when to "JOIN" and when "NOT TO JOIN" the competition. Sometimes, you need time to better prepare which includes struggle in past performances in order to come up with a best performance-comeback which happened to them this year. It's a time-investment that's worth risking for. This is actually BETTER than their Sinulog Cebu 2014 dance routine.
Korek!!! Another thing, they weren't able to join Aliwan last year 2013 despite of preparations because of politics. The Cebu City council which is majority of them are from Type O (Osmeña's Party = rival of Team Rama) declined the idea and they didn't approve the releasing of budget mainly because of George Rama Team Rama ally). The dancers, props men and the instrumentalists cried foul back then. Why they were able to join this year? Mayor Mike Rama went of his way to reach out to proper channels and solicited. I also heard that the council also agreed finally.
hi rich, they did not join after their 2008 grand slam (and eventually, hall of fame award) because of the standing rule back then na if a dancing group wins 3 years, in a row, dapat may pahinga for at least 3 years ata. 2013 was a struggle for budget due to politics in providing them with budget. they were prepared, just that the budget was not given. and i would agree nga it's time-investment for LB. i believe LB is the only Cebu City contingent who has struggled well. they are transparent with each year's performances. they felt bad when they did not make it to the top 5 in 2011, and were thankful in their monotonous 2nd place in most years. good thing, they still stick to their concept of "dance-prayer first, props later". minimalist yung props nila, up until 2014 where their props had some quantity on the stage. they are not really the "props" group, as evidenced in 2013 and 2014. nagkapuliki sila sa ilang props, but their dance-prayer was more than very satisfactory! and by the way, unlike any groups (in Sinulog) or festivals (all around the Philippines), i have an impression that LB is using their dancers as dancer-props.

Kung hindi binigyan ng STO NINO de CEBU ang Iloilo walang DINAGYANG festival? I don't think so. Kasi para mo naring sinabi na kung wala ang STO NINO ng Cebu wala ding ATI-ATIHAN festival which is the mother of all festivals in the Philippines. TONDO's FESTIVAL is also in honor of STO NINO; LINGGANAY festival is also in honor of STO NINO; BUYOGAN festival is also in honor of STO NINO yet they never claimed that they received any STO NINO from your City. Yes merong Sinulog sa time ni Magellan but that was only a RITUAL not a FESTIVAL. Like I said Ati-Atihan is the first FESTIVAL in the Philippines.

Nanalo lang yung Dinagyang sa aliwan dahil hindi sumasali ang sinulog 5 years na. Apat na beses silang sumali at nanalo apat na beses din. Nag back out ang dinagyang ngayon dahil takot malampaso. Remember natalo na din sila ng Buyogan once and natalo nila ang buyogan once din. Questionably yung pagkapanalo ng Dinagyang vs Buyogan noong 2012 maraming mas nagagandahan sa BUyogan compared sa Dinagyang.
Lumad Basakanon, the pride of Cebu City once again proved their worth as the deserving champion in the Aliwan 2014. They made history when they won last 2006, 2007 & 2008 grand slam victory. Unfortunately, there are people who are not happy with their feat but the hell we care. Insecurity is a disease. So to those who are insecure... GET WELL SOON!!! Losers...

I watch ALIWAN FIESTA 2014 and i don't enjoy it. i came straight from S. Korea and expect to see the dinagyang Festival Live.. so disappointed.. ALIWAN is so Boring without DInagyang..

Can you match the consistency and perfect execution of Lumad Basakanon? I dont think so. I am a proud Basakanon, grew up in that place, been to see their practices and the amount of dedication and discipline is Paramount. The presence or absence of the Dinagyang Festival does not really matter. The judges have minds of their own. The cheers of the people are genuine, not made or even paid. It is just what it is. You reap what you sow. The amount of hard work each dancer puts into practice has paid off, and the exemplary dedication of the Cebuanos to Snr. Sto Nino led to victory. Period. FOURTH STRAIGHT ALIWAN TITLE, That's not a joke. You cant cheat that, right? :) I laaav you mga silingan.

ahm excuse me lang huh, makasabat nga lang.. ganito kase yun. when lumad won the aliwan 3 times, majority ang comment dapat mag reinvent na ang lumad, even in sinulog kase predictable na sila. ikaw ba naman mananalo successive kahit i recycle mo pa malalaman kase madameng avid fan. dun sa isyung talo sila sa sinulog the past years. hirap sila magreinvent kase me trademark pattern ang lumad, kaya hindi sila nasisisnulog base kase. ang sinulog base, majority ng steps dun folk dance. hindi nila forte yun, ang free interpretation syempre, ang mananalo talaga madameng props dun. lingganay ang buyogan joined the sinulog with almost 1.4 to 1.5 million pesos na budget used in a 5 to 7 minute dance, last sinulog 2014 basakanon had 800,000 pesos only as a budget but went through by winning. the past years na natatalo sila was not about the concept, its all about the reinvention of the team. if we notice lumad cant erase the circles and waves kase trademark nila yan. di yan magiging lumad kung wala ang walking, luhod, prayer at circles sa dance. To the voice who commented about the victory of Lumad Basakanon in the recent Sinulog 2014 was because of the absence of Lingganay of Leyte.....you are funny. The Lingganay may have been absent because of YOLANDA but it doesn't make any definite assurance that even if they joined the Sinulog 2014 that they will still successfully defend their title. EVERY competition is unique and every year there is and there will always be changes in the performances of the contingents. WE never can compare the performance of the contingents year after year because it continuesly evolves.

(laughs) ganyan na ganyan ang sayaw nila nung january sa sinulog". eh kaya nga aliwan festival kasi ang concept is to bring the champions of the festivals to manila. you would expect the same choreography. eh dinagyang nga eh, ganun lang din ang sayaw nila. ang changes lang na ginawa nila ay i-squeeze yung original performance nila to the aliwan requirement of 5 to 6 mins performance. sa mga napanood ko sa dinagyang performances sa kanilang lugar, aabot ng 9 to 11 mins yung performance nila. if you browse lumad basakanon's performance in sinulog 2014 in cebu compare to this performance, you would definitely see a lot of changes. they infused their 2013 sinulog performance to this routine. you don't see those wing props in their 2014 sinulog performance. dami ngang nabago sa choregraphy at sa steps nila pati yung sequence of props. i think it's UNFAIR to say na ganun pa rin ang performance nila kasi di naman sila nagpeperform sa Aliwan nung 2013. I don't favor one festival over the other, i love both dinagyang festival and sinulog festival. Each has their own distinctive character. Having said that, it makes them unique. Sa nag comment dyan na ganun pa rin, ano? nga-nga? :D

I've noticed while watching a video of Dinagyang Festival, there were no bashers or sour grapers posting foul comments whatsoever.. When I looked at the comments here, there's a lot.. Haha It only shows the insecurity of some people. CEBU and the Cebuano people have nothing to prove. The track record of Lumad Basakanon speaks for itself, no need to argue about that, being champion in the Aliwan festival thrice with the Dinagyang festival around. They (Dinagyang) simply couldnt beat them (Sinulog). That earned them the title "Hall of Fame" in Aliwan Festival. 😆. Yes, indeed Dinagyang became champions too, but during the time Lumad Basakanon didn't compete... (Let's give them a chance) haha😆😆😆
And yes Dinagyang is competing internationally to showcase the Filipino festival, good job. However, the Sinulog festival doesnt need to do the same, for it is popular already being known as the GRANDEST Festival in the Philippines. That's why foreigners and local tourists visit us every January instead... it's not about the competing contingents that drag Lumad Basakanon down from joining the Aliwan. It's a matter of budget and performance. After their last Sinulog Cebu Championship in 2008 and Aliwan Championship which made them grandslam winners in 2008 (grandslam 2006-2008), it was also their last participation in Aliwan. I witnessed Lumad Basakanon's STRUGGLE to keep their distinct and unique choreography evolve in Sinulog Cebu Stage (2009-2nd, 2010-2nd, 2011-did not place, 2012-4th, 2013-2nd, 2014-champion). They can't edge out new competitors. Starting 2009, dance steps were no longer given a distinction as the FOCAL POINT of the performance. Lumad Basakanon tried to stick with their dance routine (minor changes) with minimal "props" and it did not made a "lasting" impression from the audience and judges. During that time, heavy use of props were the "IN" thing not until recent years when people try to made side comments that most performances where just a "props show" rather than dance steps and got bored watching those display of props in the stage. Lumad basakanon took advantage of that by infusing balanced use of props and dance steps in the stage. I thought they can still evolve their old unique circular formation and dance steps to a whole new level. These "dance steps" which made them known as Lumad Basakanon. I think their past performances in the Sinulog stage prevented Lumad from joining the Aliwan and also the budget. I'm not sure how true it is with regards to Hall of Famer thing in Aliwan that even if you earned that distinction, you can no longer join Aliwan. The reason they join the Aliwan this year is I think their performance is excellent and has a chance to "WIN" as displayed in Sinulog 2014 and not because contingents from Leyte and Dinagyang did not join. Tinalo nga nila yung Placer Masbate sa Sinulog Cebu 2014. Placer Masbate was a former champion for 2 years during the time when Lumad struggled with their performances to keep the championship. From my point of perspective, if you feel your contingent has chance to win, you would know when to "JOIN" and when "NOT TO JOIN" the competition. Sometimes, you need time to better prepare which includes struggle in past performances in order to come up with a best performance-comeback which happened to them this year. It's a time-investment that's worth risking for. This is actually BETTER than their Sinulog Cebu 2014 dance routine.

Korek!!! Another thing, they weren't able to join Aliwan last year 2013 despite of preparations because of politics. The Cebu City council which is majority of them are from Type O (Osmeña's Party = rival of Team Rama) declined the idea and they didn't approve the releasing of budget mainly because of George Rama Team Rama ally). The dancers, props men and the instrumentalists cried foul back then. Why they were able to join this year? Mayor Mike Rama went of his way to reach out to proper channels and solicited. I also heard that the council also agreed finally.
hi rich, they did not join after their 2008 grand slam (and eventually, hall of fame award) because of the standing rule back then na if a dancing group wins 3 years, in a row, dapat may pahinga for at least 3 years ata. 2013 was a struggle for budget due to politics in providing them with budget. they were prepared, just that the budget was not given. and i would agree nga it's time-investment for LB.
i believe LB is the only Cebu City contingent who has struggled well. they are transparent with each year's performances. they felt bad when they did not make it to the top 5 in 2011, and were thankful in their monotonous 2nd place in most years. good thing, they still stick to their concept of "dance-prayer first, props later". minimalist yung props nila, up until 2014 where their props had some quantity on the stage. they are not really the "props" group, as evidenced in 2013 and 2014. nagkapuliki sila sa ilang props, but their dance-prayer was more than very satisfactory! and by the way, unlike any groups (in Sinulog) or festivals (all around the Philippines), i have an impression that LB is using their dancers as dancer-props.

Nanalo lang yung Dinagyang sa aliwan dahil hindi sumasali ang sinulog 5 years na. Apat na beses silang sumali at nanalo apat na beses din. Nag back out ang dinagyang ngayon dahil takot malampaso. Remember natalo na din sila ng Buyogan once and natalo nila ang buyogan once din. Questionably yung pagkapanalo ng Dinagyang vs Buyogan noong 2012 maraming mas nagagandahan sa BUyogan compared sa Dinagyang.

Can you match the consistency and perfect execution of Lumad Basakanon? I dont think so. I am a proud Basakanon, grew up in that place, been to see their practices and the amount of dedication and discipline is Paramount. The presence or absence of the Dinagyang Festival does not really matter. The judges have minds of their own. The cheers of the people are genuine, not made or even paid. It is just what it is. You reap what you sow. The amount of hard work each dancer puts into practice has paid off, and the exemplary dedication of the Cebuanos to Snr. Sto Nino led to victory. Period. FOURTH STRAIGHT ALIWAN TITLE, That's not a joke. You cant cheat that, right? :) I laaav you mga silingan.

ahm excuse me lang huh, makasabat nga lang.. ganito kase yun. when lumad won the aliwan 3 times, majority ang comment dapat mag reinvent na ang lumad, even in sinulog kase predictable na sila. ikaw ba naman mananalo successive kahit i recycle mo pa malalaman kase madameng avid fan. dun sa isyung talo sila sa sinulog the past years. hirap sila magreinvent kase me trademark pattern ang lumad, kaya hindi sila nasisisnulog base kase. ang sinulog base, majority ng steps dun folk dance. hindi nila forte yun, ang free interpretation syempre, ang mananalo talaga madameng props dun. lingganay ang buyogan joined the sinulog with almost 1.4 to 1.5 million pesos na budget used in a 5 to 7 minute dance, last sinulog 2014 basakanon had 800,000 pesos only as a budget but went through by winning. the past years na natatalo sila was not about the concept, its all about the reinvention of the team. if we notice lumad cant erase the circles and waves kase trademark nila yan. di yan magiging lumad kung wala ang walking, luhod, prayer at circles sa dance. SINULOG IS A DANCE WAVE. subukan nyo kayang pasayawin ang dinagyang ng sinulog criteria yung counting na parang cha cha cha hindi one two thre kundi magsisimula sa ganitong counting 2 3 4 cha cha cha, kung gagamitan mo ng ibang counting its 2 3 4 wave 2 3 4 wave. dinagyang is 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 in afast counting because of the drumbeats. in my own assessment .kaya magulo ang dinagyang interms of phasing kase ang ginagawa ng mga trainers , within 8 to 6 counts pagsasamahin ang 3 to 4 steps.yung ang trademark ng diangayng tribes. kung sasabihin na naman ng mga ilonngo na claiming ako "manahimik kayo , im a dancer tainer namin dati is trainer ng molave na musician na ng pan-ay ngayon . so i should know.. sinulog ? i joined sinulog last january im from one of the free interpretation dancers.. even trainers from mindanao region nagkakaisa yan sila, naghahanap ng butas papano tatalunin ang lumad kase alam nila na mahirap talagang talunin ang basakanon. but that not my point , point is: ITS OVER DINAGYANG, KAHIT SABIHIN PA NG MGA ILONGGOS NA KAYA LANG NANALO ANG BASAK KASE WALA ANG DINAGYANG, ANO PALA ANG SILBI NG PARAW REGATTA NINYO? To the voice who commented about the victory of Lumad Basakanon in the recent Sinulog 2014 was because of the absence of Lingganay of Leyte.....you are funny. The Lingganay may have been absent because of YOLANDA but it doesn't make any definite assurance that even if they joined the Sinulog 2014 that they will still successfully defend their title. EVERY competition is unique and every year there is and there will always be changes in the performances of the contingents. WE never can compare the performance of the contingents year after year because it continuesly evolves.

lifeless performance, no storyline(concept magulo), irrelevant ang props, cultural diversity hinda sa kanila, no element of surprise, predictable and regular lang ang palakpakan ang inabot ng champ. wala naman golden bird at bulkan sa cebu... hayyyyysss. basta sumayaw lang. BAGSAK ITO KUNG PAGBABASIHAN LANG TALAGA SA CRITERIA. anu kaya nxt year nilang performance, mukhang naubusan na sila ng idea, same routine nalang every year. mas deserving ang MEGAGUYA FESTIVAL NA MAG CHAMP. kudos sa nag iingay sa vid. Nanalo nga sila pero boring sa nanonood ang laki pa ng gastos nila sa costume lng nag dala. Baka nga sa panalo nila talo pa sila sa price. Hndi katulad sa DINAGYANG agrisibo at dabest sumayaw hndi nakakasawa at ung bit ng drums ang lupet palagi ko kayo inaabangan d2 sa aliwan.
