  • With the release of rhino 8 comes an array of new integrated section tools. Some of these such as the dynamic sections no longer require plugins and can produce complex backgrounds. They go further to allow custom hatching of any object layers for amazing 3d construction diagrams or 2d sections. Additional functionality includes the ability to selectively clip objects or layers for stripnig away layers in buildings. I will go through a couple of examples to go through the main functionality of these new tools.

Where did you get the additional hatch patterns such as concrete etc? I dont see these as default in my rhino

By default Rhino doesnt have many hatch patterns. If you google "hatch patterns .pat files" you can import them into rhino using the method as shown at 7:40 in the video. The .pat file format is easy to import and there are loads of collections out there.

this is amazing please elaborate more, can you show us how to make a 3d detail from a 2d ?

To make 3D details the simplest way is to either to loft/ extrude the basic shapes and array objects such as bricks to make copies (grasshopper can help to). I am also sure that there is some AI development for generating 3D from 2D details. This would be very exciting to use in the future.

is there a way to make the dynamic section a 2d drawing? like you can make it into linework??

when you select "create drawings" from under drafting and sections in the menu, the line work are all placed into layers so you can change colours etc. there. You can also export these to illustrator and then do your artwork using the same layers.

i think that there is a bug. i cant have two dynamic sections, just one. for example i will place a few sections and i will try to create drawings and only the first that i created is able to create drawing. i chcecked and delete the first one so the second one works. i can create more section drawings only with create nested clipping drawings command. also i couldnt update nested drawings with update command. rino 8 is very buggy i home they will fix it.

Might be that the new sections are not active in the viewport. When creating a new section, select it and make sure in the properties panel they are activated in the view port you are using.
