    I have OE wing profile cross bars( actually they are Thule Aeroblade Edge), latest Thule Wingbar EVO 53” on Thule 450R feet for Xc70’s raised rails, and even a Thule 38” Airscreen.
    After spending all those $$$ for experiments, I recommend OE wing profile bars like the video shows for being the quietest bars you can get.

    I prefer the style of the load carriers that you have as they don't protrude sideways beyond the roof rails so look much better. Looks like a great option for carrying long items without the hassle of folding seats and it enables unrestricted use of the cargo area. Thanks for your video.

    I just finished installing my load bars and I can add that they work beautifully with the Thule T-track system.
    I didn't install the rubber track cover, I'm afraid it will whistle at speed.

    Also, if you compare these load bars to the Thule Aeroblade Edge, the Volvo bars have a much higher arch. Mounting an upright bicycle carrier to one side results in the bicycle leaning significantly to that side. It is probably possible to correct the lean by adding a thicker mounting bracket to the lower side where the bicycle carrier mounts to the load bar. The Thule bars look very similar but have less arch and have optional locks - but they do cost much more.

    Great video and very helpful. I've just managed to purchase a bargain used pair privately via Facebook sales in the UK for £47.00 including the postage. They need a little cleaning due to being attached together with very sticky brown packing tape. I'll be following your guidance and hopefully get them fitted to my 2015 XC70 over the weekend.👍

    Note: the screw driver can be replaced by a small torque wrench and a security Torx bit. TH25 or TH30 not so sure about size. That way you can use also usual garage tools and don't nee a specific tool ;)

    My volvo xc70 also has the spoiler of the boot. When I load the surf paddle boards on the roof I can not open the back door because it hits the aleron. Even so the roof bars are very nice in the volvo and are also aerodynamic I do not hear noise.

    I noticed you advised the viewers to not open the tailgate from the remote. I believe if you hold the tailgate button on the remote and then quickly press it again when the desired opening level is reached, the tailgate will stop and be put in manual mode. Let me know if I'm wrong.

    • @volvosweden
      @volvosweden  Před 6 lety +1

      I would just pull the lever on the tailgate quickly twice which activates manual opening of it. This is more safe then using the remote. Pulling once opens the tailgate automatically. Pulling quickly twice will operate the tailgate manually.

    I have the same load bars. I have tried to find key-operated locks that fit in place of the the plastic locks that turn with a screwdriver. It appears that it is intended to be possible to use locks that are similar to Thule products but the hole is a smaller diameter than the Thule cylinders. Are you aware of locks available from Volvo or elsewhere?

      The new V90 sure is slick. In general, some do it for the journey and not so much for the final destination. When you run out of projects to do on the XC70 you can either move on to another car or simply enjoy your picture-perfect XC70!

    I have the same P3 XC70 and picked up a pair of these carriers but they are both too long for the rear position. The metal aerobar part on each is approx. 36.25" /918mm. Is the rear bar shorter on your set? I wonder if I can disassemble and cut the bar shorter and if so what is the correct length?
