    And why is the Bridge cheaper than the Hub?

    • @homey
      @homey  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey KN Film, the major difference is that Homey Pro runs locally, an internet connection is not required for Devices, Flows, etc. to be controlled. Homey Bridge runs in the Cloud, meaning an active and stable internet connection is required. • @homey
      @homey  Před 2 lety

      Hey G.B. Dam, this is not possible & in most cases not necessary. Many of the communication protocols (Zigbee / Z-Wave) create their own mesh networks. This means that extending the range can be done by adding 'Router' type devices to the network. Check out this video on Z-Wave for a little more info - czcams.com/video/y1w3KYZ6fcQ/video.html

  • @rikardlundgren
    @rikardlundgren Před 2 lety

    Oh what a game changer it would be to be able to add a bridge, or even better, several of them as slaves/access points to the Homey Pro which would act as the master.
    This would help get rid of the eternal range problem for all the wireless protocols when building a smart home involving both in- and outdoors, going through walls etc. As opposed to having separate range extenders separately for each protocol.
    Watching reviews here on YT scares me a bit regarding the risk of short range from the main unit.
    Otherwise I really love what you're doing!

      @homey  Před 2 lety

      @rikardlundgren Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for your reply, it makes me feel seen/heard, can't ask for more. 😅👍😁
      I just want to clarify one thing about the use case:
      My home wifi and LAN is already built out and have great coverage with a strong router and nodes. Wouldn't want to re-do it with a parallel network Wi-Fi network just to communicate data between the H Pro and the bridge(s).
      Thus the connection between H Pro and the bridge(s) should be able to use the local existing network (Wi-Fi works and LAN is great) for connecting to each other as opposed to only a direct connection.
      Benefits:
      1. Utilizes existing infrastructure (positive synergy!)
      2. It would also work offline when you have the H Pro as master.
      Thanks!

      Hey Malamutten, Homey can do a lot more than just turn on / off the lights. I'd suggest you take a closer look at what Homey offers, and you'll quickly see that the possibilities with our smart home platform are much broader than SmartThings or Hue. Not to mention a much better user experience and more flexibility in your potential smart home devices and Flows. If you took the time to dive into Homey a little further, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with what we offer.

      @@homey Is fully aware that homey can do many things. But my bridge is constantly jumping off my 2.4 wifi. and here today homey then chose to delete all my gadgets from aqara and ikea. so now i have to start setting it all up again. just with the exception of aqara which I can not get on at all anymore. so looking forward to the beta is over. and bridge is going to run well. have high expectations for it .. if you do it really well it may be I drop my HA

      @@malamutten3203 As you know, Homey Bridge is still in beta, therefore we would love to have your feedback! In the Homey App you can head to 'More' and offer us some Beta Feedback. We are constantly reviewing the feedback from our users to improve the platform as best we can. You're invited to leave some feedback there! :)
