I am very glad you both are Ok. I’ll say a prayer for Omar. I prayed before I heard your story and shall pray again that you hear your own story with an open mind and heart. Without condoning hostages… whether it is understandable, or conceivable to desperate people… I ask you and any that listens to actually hear your story. I heard things like, they were not cruel to you, surprisingly kind, and ultimately they could not bare to allow you to worry or be separated indefinitely about and from one another. The grape juice, medical attention, and of course the notes passed back and forth all make these moments of compassion a fact and not an assumption. The reality is that the majority of Israelis do not consider or realize the deprived lives of Palestinians. Not all get assigned to the bowels of the West Bank and those spots seem reserved for they who show an inclination towards acceptance and willingness to join in the racism and brutality. I imagine that any young soldier that holds shame for contributing to knowing how terrible it is, that their shame does not allow them to speak against it… because they’d have to admit to some level of guilt. All and any peoples would react the same. Young soldiers are the easiest to accomplish this dynamic. By now anyone could say with confidence that the IDF was not striking with concern for your well being. I doubt that hiding your existence was to keep you safe from Palestinians(as they all knew you were bargaining chips for the thousands held in Israeli detention before oct7) and instead to protect you from being bombed directly by the idf. Due to revenge being the goal and not your safe return. Which gave you a taste of the their reality… fear. Genuine constant anxiety and fear of indiscriminate destruction, that is followed by limited medical help. They couldn’t use an ambulance or it would have increased your chance of death. Their brutalized reality started at birth and you knew it only for weeks… yet empathy and kindness were still afforded to you. These are things I hope you not only think about. But consider it on an “in their shoes” manner. Because it is rare to hear brutal captive oct7 stories. No beatings. More complaints of boredom than anything and fear of not knowing whether your captors or IDF strikes would kill you. The long light haired French girl who obviously finds herself a trophy lol… she was not raped and it was how they looked at her that made her feel violated is ridiculous. But I think like most when asked about physical or sexual abuse couldn’t give details and all stated… I don’t want to talk about it. Seemed to me pressured to state there was sexual abuse by assumedly the government. The one girl who gave the account of a raped woman that had breasts cut off… no bodies had such description of wounds. But the naked oct7 bodies are better explained as stated in the ICC or UN report were indicative of tank shelling and blasted off of them… much like the main video of the last shelter bombed in Gaza with near naked bodies that had remnants of clothing blasted off and their flesh melted. I suppose all I’m saying Israel nor my own country the US, that neither country gives two shits how many of any of you die. They have their eye on some bigger prize and we as humans will all lose if we don’t try to see the goodness in each other and consider the others shoes… but the latter is more so needed from Israelis and that’s just a fact.
