I never played this game before.
I've never heard of this game but this movie is still my favorite Batman movie even though it was before my time. I actually remember all of it and didn't fall asleep like I did with the Dark Knight trilogy. I'm just one of those people that still prefer things with a lighter tone and I've always liked Mr. Freeze.
This game was too ambitious for a 1997 PS1 game.

It basically tried to be Arkham Knight. Commendable for the ambition, but it just couldn't. It wasn't that the era didn't have the _tech_ it was that it didn't have the knowledge. If you went back in time and taught them modern control systems and balancing it would have revolutionized gaming.
How does this have better detective elements than like all of the movies lol.

I've always wondered how many of these games could get unofficial patches in emulation. Like, Persona 3 FES has a gameshark code patch to give you P4 party control. We need to make doing this with console games in emulation more of a thing.
Tank controls are a spatial perception thing, some people just can't deal with them because you need to fit your brain into the right shape, kinda like lucid dreaming honestly.
Yeah PS1 games are almost all suped up DS games
They're best left as good memories.
Definition of a game ahead of its time in all the ways it can go wrong. The technology and experience was just not there yet, the game is still god awful, but I respect the ambition.

The combat/control is incredibly convoluted.
It has 2 "stance"/"mode" that needs to manually switched and they do different things.

Tbf, this is just Dark Souls, you have no info, almost no Check points, barely armed, lots of enemies that can easily kill you, even the death animayion looks alike

I love how Batman dies in this. He just sort of T-poses and pathetically falls face-first. It's comedy cold. In all fairness, this game seems to have a lot going for it with the big open world, driving, multiple playable characters. Things probably would have worked out better if this had come out on the PS2 or Xbox.

Honestly I love batman and Robin (the movie). If you view it as a Action comedy like the Adam west show instead of viewing it as a failed action drama. It's a pretty fun movie Arnold as Mr freeze with the puns was amazing. That scene when he pulls out the fcking credit card lmao
My problem with it is that they tried to mix that with the drama. They did BTAS Freeze (literally, Paul Dini created that entire story and character for BTAS). They wasted Bane, who shouldn't have been there. Pam was good. They did a weird version of Babs because they just never used Gordon as a real character in the movies. Alfred's disease was not a good plot for the movie. Doing the depressing dark Freeze in a comedy didn't work at all. Sure, he's fun... until you remember the backstory and stuff. Imagine a movie that was just a proper adaption of Heart of Ice.
That’s exactly how I feel about it. I just view it as it’s own thing and enjoy it much more as a result.
@@PosthumanHeresy They tried to combine the tragic animated Freeze with the generic cold themed villain he was in comics and the 60's show before that. But a guy who'll die if he's out of his suit and has a terminally ill wife wouldn't be making snow and ice jokes so it didn't work.

to be fair I really think this game is just too ambitious and ahead of it's time, it was a pain to play eve more for me in a time where english was not something I understand, but I give so much credits because this game was fun, creep, scary but also very interesting

I watched a guy actually beat this game or come close to it but and it was like you had to find a very specific Mr Freeze clue but had to back track aimlessly to find it.

This game is actually fun. Too bad it doesn't have the best controls, but when you learn how to play it, it's kind of fun to search clues around the city and investigate on the Computer, to discover where they will attack next.
I'm planning on playing again.

@@LoneWolfGamer9613 OMG, I remember playing that demo on one of those PS1 demo disks (where it had 10-15 demos in one piece) when you got a brand-new PS1, and Bubsy 3D was unbearable. Thank fuck, nobody gave me a physical copy of Bubsy 3D.
You guys deserve a medal for playing this as long as you did. Because of all the people I've seen try to tackle this game, I've never seen anyone get past the first level in the museum. (I don't blame you guys for getting confused on the controls. This was back in the day when you had to consult the game manual to learn the buttons, since disk space was a luxury back then.)
But the real tragedy of all this is that the game IS super accurate to the look of the movie and gets a lot of details right. And it's super ambitious with having detective mode vs. combat mode; an open world map; multiple characters to choose from with different combat styles; and real time, time-sensitive missions. With the right people behind it and a bit more polish, this could've become the Arkham Knight of its day. But unfortunately, whether it was because of lack of technical skill, lack of time, lack of money, or some combo of the three, we wound up with......THIS instead.
Rerez actually completed the game. Their review of the game, as part of their Just Bad Games series, is fantastic and very funny. Great channel to check out.

The problem with this game is the missions are on a timer, and if you don’t get to certain locations in the on time you cannot progress, so the game is unplayable
The 90s was so good every movie that came out they had a spin off TV show a video game and a toy I kinda miss it but most the games are not good

I had this game when I was a kid. It looked awesome back in the day. I actually really like the aesthetics of low poly gotham to this day.
The idea of an open world Batman game was incredible for a PS1 tie in title.
I never got pass the first two enemies in the museum because the controls are awful... and because I was scared to death of them. Anyone who played this game in their childhood would agree this game felt pretty scary.

I know. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was terrified to go into the museum as a child. It wouldn't have been so bad if the controls were better. That said, this game didn't really vibe with the film since the film was more funny and comedic than menacing.

The Fifth Element Kalisto Entertainment 1998 is horrific the controls will make you want to throw a kid through a window.
There is also bubsy 3d but I'm guessing that game has been down millions of times with how infamous it is.

On one hand I complain a lot about how standardized games are these days but early 3D games where everyone is still figuring out how to make 3D fun with extremely limited hardware and you can't even count on your players to have analog sticks? Many games fell into this nightmare hellscape where it barely works and you need a PHD in the game manual to understand the mechanics and controls.
I mean it's a mess and broken but it has a early form of a semi open world which is kinda cool for the time. You should definitely play the crow and hellboy games to 😅 . There's also the planet of the apes and mission impossible ones to .

Fun fact about this game you can find in the video by Rerez: There is actually a way to get invincibility by finding a key that leads to the outside of Wayne manor. By using the key you unlock a chamber of invincibility gas, a race with a tiny Batmobile, and a game of Bat galaga with the funniest sound clip ever

Actually pretty visually impressive. I want more games like this to get a remake. Games that aimed higher than what was possible at the time. When I think back to PS1 almost nothing looked like this. Nothing touched spider-man 1 and 2 ( enter electro I think ) and syphon filter. Just waiting till everything is out for the newer Spider-Man 2 so I can do my NG+ of it then I'm busting the PS2 back out and going through all the PS1 and 2 superhero games.

Reboot, The Crow, Incredible Hulk Pantheon Saga, Cardinal Sin, there are so many games on PS1 to look back on and laugh. Parasite Eve remains my favorite game of the lot though, still play it and Final Fantasy 8 to this day.
