- In today's video a customer with a TRX Ram has his transmission blow up, Stellantis denies the warranty claim because the customer had a pedal commander.
Stellantis is doing everything they can to avoid paying ANY warranty claims, What do you think?
Let's discuss this in the comments. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
That’s why I always take aftermarket parts off before I take to dealership.
Modifying usually void warranties In many cases. not all….I thought this would have been a thing in the vehicle industry decades ago
NOPE. SCOTUS ruled the maker had to PROVE your modifications caused the damage.
Essentially, any modification can void a warranty. Different sized wheels and tires can be blamed for a damaged transmission
I worked for dodge for 34 years and they were always like that , the only thing thats acceptable is auto steps or anything that just monitors, anything else is a way out
Your wrong about this one. You can't modify pcm inputs and expect to have warranty. Pedal commander change throttle input and torque management strategy. Why would you even put that junk on your 100k vehicle anyways. Once you modify ANY pcm inputs, you take a chance voiding warranty. Just cause you think it's no big deal doesn't mean the OEM has to look the other way on any mods
You are exactly right, leave things alone until it's out of warranty, they shouldn't have to pay for it because you changed the way it works.
Do you even know what the Commander does? It changes the resolution of the throttle input.
It does NOT change ANYTHING on the computer. A dodge mechanic told me he could not see ANYTHING on the log that has changed the vehicle. All the trx owner had to do was Uninstall it before getting warranty approval. PERIOD
Agreed 100%, cannot modify computer in any fashion and expect warranty period. I’m with Stellantis on this one.
That's the customers problem... should have not modified
I heard pedal commanders were throwing cars and trucks in limp mode 🤷♀️
I disagree on this one. You Give any of them an excuse not just stalantus. They won't pay a warranty claim
I'm not a Stellanpiss fan-boi, but they have every right to deny warranty for ANY system modification. Why the fok did this guy leave it in there? That's a whole other level of stupid. Now, his vehicle is flagged and it won't matter if he went to another dealer for service.
More money than brains.
One thing i agree with manufactures will use ANY EXCUSE, and i mean ANY EXCUSE, to not honor a warranty esp after market that did not come with the vehicle, for this reason i don't add anything you have to wire in, plug in etc.. just not worth it .. what cars cost now a days they will say read the fine print .. , they know good and well people will add items on esp if it a certain type of vehicle.. they cover all bases
Why should Ram be responsible for aftermarket junk installed on the truck , have the company that makes the pedal commander step up and cover it. I just don't know why these aftermarket companies are never held responsible for damages caused by their products.
The fine print states Not Responsible For Malfunction or Failure. Legally they cover their azz
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 The commander does not change anything other than the responsiveness of the throttle input.
Don't even think about putting a cold air intake on. Nope nothings safe lol! Why not take the darn thing off before going to the shop? Banks makes a better product than the pedal commander.
My son had 8 dodges. 6 of them needed transmissions. He still loves dodge.
Some people never learn!
The computer doesn't read any change. Just take the shit off before getting a warranty check.
Honestly this is the owners own fault, should have replaced his PCM or had it flashed. He gave them an easy out to deny that
😂😂😂😂. The Pedal Commander is essentially a throttle response controller that is designed to improve the responsiveness of your vehicle's accelerator. It works by altering the signal between the accelerator pedal and the engine control unit (ECU), which ultimately affects the way your vehicle responds to your inputs
After market products are only allowed by a factory approved by the manufacturer , example of the Chevy Camaro, you can upgrade from Hennessey there are other examples but in general you should always check if your mod voids your warranty BEFORE you do something.
Glad I kept my TRX stock. Had cooling system issues and local dealer/aggressively asked me if it had a tune (when things went sideways with their repair and Lemon Law time delays)… I’d love more HP that the engine can easily provide but operating this truck without a warranty is $$$ too much risk
A friend is a tech at a Dodge dealership. He says he's changed so many transmissions in new Wham trucks that he can do one in about an hour. And don't get him started on Chrysler's famous lifter tick!
SCOTUS already ruled they have to PROVE your add on caused the damage and then can only not warranty that item, it doesn't take away all the warranty. Find a good lawyer.
I don’t think it should void the warranty no. But knowing the issues with Stellantis right now it would be wise to er on the side of caution to not give them any excuse to void your warranty or for God’s sake take the damn thing out before bringing it in for warranty work. Fortunately or unfortunately both of our Hellcats are past warranty period so we’re nodding away. But if they were I wouldn’t take them in with anything plugged in. But even so many things can be detected by scanning the PCM it’s not like the old days those days are gone… and the whole making them prove it was the cause and hiring lawyers will send you to the poor house while you have a dead vehicle your making payments on and paying lawyers.
peddle commander lol. the 3rd search people make. 1. What axle-back will make my v6 or 4cyl sound like a v8. 2. best cold air intake under $150. 3.pedal commander.
Yup, it’s important to look & sound cool 😎 😂
Read the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. They csnt void a warranty unless they cam PROVE the aftermarket part caused the problem.
The owner f***ed up. You can't jeopardize the warranty on a $100k plus vehicle. I don't think ANY manufacturer wouldn't do the same as Dodge. Einstein asked
"do you know the difference between genius and stupidity? Genius has its limits"
The owner made that decision too easy..sometimes stupid is expensive...
I don't think Dodge is in the wrong here and i think the thumbnail on this video is way out of line. Stellantis is doing enough dumb shitty stuff..but..YOU'RE REACHING HERE.
I understand that a peddle commander will help execrate the signal to show better throttle response, but does it really effect it to apply unwarranted stress on drive train components. I have even seen this used on various automotive shows as marketing and have expressed it will not void your warranty. I do understand that modern computerized vehicles are very sensitive and any slight change can alter things. This is not a tune that can really put stress on drive line parts and lest say it does alter the effects of the power managed a little quicker, but is it that much to actually cause drive line issues, I would think not. it doesn't change shift points, it doesn't change timing, it doesn't add more air or fuel, it doesn't rewrite the code in the PCM/ECM, it doesn't even shut things off or turn things on. It only execrates the signal of the throttle, as all modern vehicles have electronic throttle control not mechanical, or at least any that use this technology.
Is 700hp not enough?? Over a $100k truck and put a $200 peddle commander on it?? Put that on your 4runner, not on a TRX. Put an Intake and exhaust and pulley if you want more power. And by all means take Pedal Commander off before sending it to the dealer!!!!
Doesn't change power or shifts
so you don't know what it does and make a dumb comment. It doesn't add horsepower, it makes the pedal push a smoother linear amount.
😂 The pedal commander does not give more power…..Please read up on it before you post.
Yea I don’t know about this specific mod (if they had it 15 years ago maybe my dad had it in his ole f250 maybe? Stupid to leave it on before you take it in/gets towed because we all know they already look for any reason to cancel warranty. Speaking of transmission finally got my F150 back from the shop, got it at 110k miles , bought extended warranty and they have been amazing with taking care of my shit, ended up needing brand new transmission, no issue, $100 deductible, drives like butter now! Happy I found a good dealership without funny business. They recommended my air filter and cabin filter so I did them myself. Holy shit they were really bad so no shady shit trying to get me to buy something it didn’t need. They def were old. Anyway, nice video I lean on the pull out your mods and play it safe(mines stock anyway)
Harley Davidson is the same way. If you install an aftermarket part and have a problem later... Too bad... Warrenty voided ! Can't blame them ! If they wanted it on there they would have installed it. Sorry my friend but you f....d up ! Have a nice day 👍
I thought it was common knowledge that if you put any aftermarket parts on your vehicle that’s not from the oem that they can deny warranty work if they want to.
Changing the way the throttle functions is a modification of the engine, and/or transmission computer signals. It's a far cry from re-setting your oil change, or doing diagnostic work. I stand by my previous post. If you're taking the vehicle to be serviced, don't be stupid and stand your ground like a mindless drone, stomping your feet and declaring your sovereign right to do as you please with your piece of crap truck and remove the fucking dongle, ok? Once it's out of warranty, do whatever you want to it. (from a later post, but it fits here.)
For heaven's sake remove the Pedal Commander from the OBD2 port !!! Also remove your dash cam and insurance card (both should be used in your rental car or other backup transportation). Remove any cash or extra dose of medication from the glove box. Remove extra tool kits (voltmeter, tire gauge and pump) from the vehicle.
It’s the dealerships fault for reporting it to ram. It doesn’t set any faults in the computer where it would throw up a red flag when they download the transmission information to rams website.
I've been dealing with dodge not honoring warranty work since 2015. On a car that I literally have left stock and have 41k miles on. Does not surprise me at all, they're not into warranty work.
Very disappointed at what dodge become 😕
If Dodge wants to play that game, then the user should get a warning message that the unauthorized mod will void warranty if lt stays connected.
The truck is super fast already from factory why do this yup you deserve warranty not to be covered in all cases they tell you if you put an after market parts yes you will void your warranty what you don't read the fine print
Yes it should be voided you know this guy was doing BS with that truck to blow the transmission to be begin with, I'm sure his story was it exploded on his way to work in stop and go traffic though. if he can afford that truck then he can afford to fix it play stupid games win stupid prizes.
a pedal commander is like taking an old school car and simply adjusting the carburetor! if adjusting a carburetor were to void a warranty every single old car would have voided its warranty the day it hit the lot ! Mr Norms got 4 tractor trailer loads of hemi cars the middle of winter not a one would start in the cold without new jets and spark plug swap ! bam he voided the wattanty before they were off the trailer !
I had a new 2014 with the 8spd. The trans took a dump, lost fluid. They were going to refill and hand it back to me. I objected. They dropped the pan, then they decided to replace the trans. Took 30 days. Then the new trans wasn't right as well, wouldn't shift into 8th above 70mph. So if you were going 75 to 80, the truck downshifted, it would not upshift unless u reduced speed. What a pain in the ass.
Gotta agree with corporate on this one
TK is wrong on this one. You change the tune through changing the base map or piggybacking I/Os, you void the warranty.
He gave a shitty company an excuse to void his warranty. By installing that it leads them to believe he was operating the vehicle in irresponsible ways and doing other things.
@@chalkdog3095 well said
Problem is in wht you said... "leads them to believe...".... They have to prove it without a doubt.... because it the court... this is what will happen... This is directly related to right to repair and the corporations making everything possible so that you own nothing...
Adhere to your warranty or else!
I disagree with you on this one. Read the fine print in the warranty. Even though you are probably correct, RAM is within their legal right to deny the claim. It's a non-factory modification and it does, indeed, void your warranty. You can sue all you want, but you will lose. NEVER take your vehicle in for warranty work with ANY MODIFICATION or it WILL BE DENIED!
About f150 2⁰15 Ecoboost 6cylinder
Sure Gale Banks may want to give a helping hand.
I love Ram. But. I am not getting 1. No way in. H. To many problems 😊
ANY device plugged into obdII connector can interrupt or affect PCM communications and affect engine or transmission operation. Don't go to dealership with the murder weapon, Warranty Denied.
Haha glad to see there’s some sense in the comments section … 😂
Gale Banks has shown that the Pedal Commander is dangerous junk. And that man is a legend. Not siding with Stellantis, just pointing out that the product is no good.
Shown how, vid? Any links? Would be interested to see what he's talking about
like buying ''as is''
It’s all part of the Carlos cost cutting measures. Deny warranty claims at all cost.
I am a ram owner and this makes me not want to buy another one. If the warranty is this bogus I would be afraid of getting screwed like this customer.
It's not just RAM, it's ALL the manufacturers. Read the fine print on your warranty.
Another reason never to buy Anything from fiat dodge 😂
As much as I would like to agree with you on the pedal commander, I wouldn’t have installed or put anything on that vehicle. I would’ve left it as is as it got out of the factory because the electronics with Chrysler products are fussy so that very well could have destroyed the transmission because they over complicate everything with making everything electronic. I’m not saying that’s what destroyed the transmission but all that did was give them an excuse not to cover it. I have a 19 Dodge Journey. My transmission went out at 38,000 miles and they covered it. No questions asked. And it doesn’t help that Stellantis is a sleaze bag company. That’s why I would not change anything in my vehicle, especially if it’s under the warranty. Because they find any little excuse to not cover anything if you alter anything on your car.
Pedal commander is junk. They can and do cause CEL. But to void a warranty on it is dumb. It’s not a tune. You’re aren’t doing any overwrites. But is an easy way to deny a warranty. The problem lies with the way it works that shite Dodge is denying it. Since it amplifies the throttle input to the throttle body.
Give hell TK
sounds like them anything to get out of spending a dime
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for all. you do to let us know all about the B S. Going on. Hope he Sue's the dog crap out of them. 😊 have a good day TK 😊
I will look at reading his warranty again, but it’s real petty. I don’t see how the pedal commander has anything to do with the transmission.
No it should not
With the newer vehicles reporting your data back to the manufacturer, how do you know that they aren't aware of your modifications to the stock settings? Warrnties state modifications void it. stupid move to do on a such an expensive purchase. 🤡💯🤑💰🤯🙄
The pedal commander is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever ever come across. They cause of a lot of issues. Total waste of money for anyone who buys one. Unfortunately. Biggest issue I’ve seen on. Those in FCA products.
No it shouldn't that is bs
If they don't want anything plugged into the OBD port they should not allow access to it! F k Stalantis!
Is that why they won't have a dipstick on the transmission or the engine block?
The warranty should be voided, you just shouldn't plug in or place aftermarket devices on a new vehicle while still under warranty....I guarantee you there's language in the fine print of your vehicle warranty..
And I guarantee you he was doing some BS with it when it exploded as well there's always more to the story.
Ford is worse
