Chuck Mindenhall called this on Morning Kombat a long time ago. He said “what if the story of Adesanya/Peirera isn’t about Israel, it’s really all about Alex”.
If Israel doesn’t have a resurgence, that could end up being the case.
Chuck is an OG. I miss when they did The MMA Beat.
Love that you brought that up. Well done. And what an amazing spin by the man in the hat.
Crazy!
Well said!
Their stories will be forever aligned. Would AP have even been brought to the UFC is there wasn't the Izzy story? Would Izzy have just continued on his run, and retired as a long-reigning champ if his kryptonite hadn't shown up to chop him down? Either way, couldn't have asked for a better outcome - and I say that as a massive Izzy fan. We're lucky this whole thing happened and we're getting to see AP work at the highest level, changing narratives everywhere as he does so.
Alex Pereira has already surpassed Khabib's legacy. Two belts, beat 5 former champions. Khabib: 1 belt, beat 1 former champ.
4* and only 1 of those champions had a title defense lol
@@CopreJack2 *5 and your argument is disingenuous.
Khabib is 29-0. Pereira is 11-2.
Khabib dominated all of his competition, lost almost no rounds.
Pereira struggled against Blachowicz and close decision, has been KO'd and has been submitted.
The site FightMatrix uses computerised algorithms and modified Elo System ratings to try and predict outcomes. It has a All-Time Absolute MMA Rankings list.
Khabib is found to be #12 all time fighter, 12,673 points.
Alex Pereira is not on the All-Time Absolute list, but Pereira is on the All-Time Middleweight list at #32 1,217 points, and he's on the All-Time LightHeavyweight list at 2,454 points.
1,271 points + 2,454 points = 3,725 points.
Back to the All-Time Absolute list:
#30 Cain Velasquez 8,271
#31 Robbie Lawler 8,270
#32 Islam Makhachev 8,164
#33 Fabricio Werdum 8,050
#34 Tito Ortiz 7,972
#35 Ben Henderson 7,936
I don't think it's yet been updated for Pereira's most recent win, I think the site is updated later this week, but Pereira would need 4,211 points to overtake Ben Henderson at #35 all time fighters.
But that's All-Time points i.e legacy of a fighter.
In terms of how good fighters currently are there's a different rating system, and Pereira is high in that amongst current fighters -
Pound for Pound:
Islam Makhachev 338
Leon Edwards 327
Alexandre Pantoja 301
Alex Pereira 227
Ilia Topuria 176
Sean O'Malley 167
Light Heavyweight ratings:
Alex Pereira 2,689
Jan Blachowicz 1,359
Magomed Ankalaev 1,056
Jiri Prochazka 998
Jamahal Hill 920
@@MagnusGalactusOG so if yall counting Sean Strickland then you have to count Justin, Dustin, and Dos Anjos lol all were either interim champs or undisputed. Yall weird bro lol
@@CopreJack2interim champs don’t count since Alex beat 5 undisputed champions.
The best thing to sum up Alex is the fact that his longest answer at the post fight press was giving well wishes and support to Jiri after a knockout loss like that. Never really pushes to promote himself or hype up his wins, just keeps it short and sweet and just says chama. What a legend.
Joe Rogan was talking about Alex Pereira coming to the UFC, and being a super star long before his first UFC fight..
Very TRUE, Joe has been talking about Alex for years
Pereira is the type of champion Izzy never could be
Pereira is a beast and amazing. Izzy is a brilliant fighter and amazing. Both are true, no need to knock Izzy as Alex's star is rising.
Izzy couldn't beat strickland, poatan koed him.
Izzy couldn't beat Jan, poatan beat him.
Izzy tried but failed at 2 division champ, poatan easily became 2 division champ.
Izzy was 10 years in kickboxing trying to become world champion but never succeeded, poatan within a couple of years easily became world champion in kick boxing and the first history 2 division champ in glory kickboxing.
Poatan beat easy 3 times in two different sports.
Poatan is what izzy always wanted to be.
To think Periera was litterally only signed and fast tracked to world title cause Adesanya had cleared the division and needed a name and backstory for a worthy challenger. Insane how much he flipped the script
rright? when he beat izzy it was surprising but I was like ehh, yeah he beat izzy but was fast tracked and izzy is a striker. He will get beat soon by Jan. Nope. Dude is certainly special
If he lost along the way y’all wouldn’t say he was fast tracked so stop hating.
@@C_Los45 where is the hate? My posts is praise only - you must have a very negative world view to think there was any hate in that comment at all so I wish you some happiness in your life 🍻
He wasn’t really fast tracked, he came in with a great resume. Same like Askren, only difference is Alex won.
@@C_Los45no one is complaining about the fast track. He’s back it up the entire way
Lock 2 guys in a room Alex Periera comes out, screw what Dana White says 😂
I'm a big Alex fan, but if it's Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall locked in that room with him, I'd have to favour them.
Indeed, Alex doesn’t even need to be one of the two guys locked in…
Lock Periera in a room with Jones and Jones comes out every single time
@@martysmith2851 I like Jon but Reyes already walked out of the room against Jones 😂
Gary did no damage at all. He lost in my eyes
He almost put mvp out in the first round, if you were betting money on MVP and saw that choke hold you would be screaming and preying for MVP not to tap.
@@asianconnection7701he lost if mvp wasn’t so nice and let Ian back up to his feet. MVP gave Ian that fight

Izzy fans are weird
They are poor unfortunate souls.
Very weird. Izzy had a few good fights, but most were boring. Alex came in and accomplished what Izzy couldn't and I'm loving every minute of it
I am an Izzy fan. I love watching Alex fight. It is pretty simple.
@@didgyaright to many haters both are great
poatars are obsessed with izzy
Conor gets a ingrown toenail and pulls out. Alex breaks a toe, fights on short notice, breaks another toe by head kicking Jiri and sleeping him, and pops it back into place with ease
Best run in UFC history.
The fact that whatever champion wins most recently jumps to #1 p4p, just shows that the p4p rakings really are without much meaning.

Man pereira really is a living legend
Alex Pereira needs to be in everyone's GOAT conversation. He's one of the best ever in combat sports.
Ariel the GOAT!
Someone remind Ariel how Anderson Silva stepped in to fight DC. Regarding stepping up last min
Yes but that was on a Thursday of that week for ufc 200 JOE SOTO MADE HIS UFC DEBUT and was called up the day of the weight in and now was fighting for the belt ON HIS DEBUT! That was crazy! Dan IgE just happens to live in Vegas and was near the weight and was given 4 hours! THATS UNFATHOMABLE!!!
Jon Jones...vs Pereira?
Alex vs Stipe should be his heavyweight fight. That’s a better fight that Alex vs Jon.
He would starch stipe imo
@@Southernoutlaw86 stipe does have enough wrestling to be a threat, like him against Francis 1. But he’s not as good a wrestler as Jon and I think Alex would have a better chance against Stipe. I think Alex has a better chance at beating Stipe than he does Jon and i’d bet Alex Stipe would last longer and be more entertaining.
James krause fought on last minute/same day at 185lb when he was only there to coach
I completely agree that when Dana talks about Jon Jones it's literally a rant, anytime anyone mentions his name. Alex is definitely #1 and Islam is #2
The fans would love to see a technical kickboxing match between Pereira and Gane or Volkov!
Alex has so much charisma that instead of him learning English, the fans are learning Portuguese
He's definitely more popular than izzy
What is this guy talking about Alex was a phenom in kickboxing!!!😂 He held two different belts and two different weight classes
He said at the time he was there, Alex wasn’t immediately the best. He got better and better each fight
2 weight glory champ Brazilian champion and pan am america champion now double champ of the ufc....Jon Jones who?
Why no discussion about Khabib on the run?
Just imagine if Alex speaked English, he would be a big star and the funny thing is Alex is already a big star so just imagine what English would do to his star power 😅 as someone who is pretty new the ufc and started watching around a year and a half ago , I used to hate the fighters who didn’t speak English but Alex is different and is one of my favorite fighters to watch and be a fan of.
I kind of like the mystery of the non existent English
Champions named Alex have given us some great title reigns. Always active.
Alex Pereira has a chance to be Michael Jordan of MMA if he keeps this streak.
Alright bro relax 😂
Like mans said ungotta relax but he would literally be in his own class, not the Goat but like the most unique legacy and career ever

Leon ain’t best in his division. GTFO with pound for pound Lolol 🤡
Pereira could target Wilder to get some BIG $$$
Izzy has twice as many kickboxing fights, twice as many MMA fights, and it's Alex who's blistering through the UFC's weight classes.
No one matches Alex's composure except Jon Jones.
Izzy was a full fledged star until Alex came in he kinda stole his lightning.

Periera is not number 1 pfp until i see him beat an elite grappler
Where’s my time stamp king?
Anything can happen in there but Jon would most likely rag doll Alex . I’d like to see Alex vs Stipe.
JON is a ped cheat, without ped he'll be breathing for air like a dog after round 1 jusk like LUKE ROCKHOLD when he fought COASTA.
The UFC NEEDS to book Alex vs Jon.. It’s the biggest fight the UFC can make, including Mcgregor Chandler.. It’d be the 2nd biggest fight of all-time behind Conor vs Khabib. Idk if Jon would stick around to do it, but my guess is, Jon sees a clear path to victory via wrestling nd the upside is BIG for Jon’s legacy specially if it’s his last fight so I gotta think it’s possible to get it done
Does anyone know the artist of this song?
Alex’s aura will dissipate once Aspinall sleeps him with a 1-2 down the pipe within the first minute
And thats why all that Poatan is my favourite since when the most didnt knew who he was.
All my friends i talk about him none of them had known him but they all know him now.
Chama 🗿🔥
I can’t watch an Ariel podcast without at least once saying “he wahn”. 😂
Haha funny how izzy gave the idea of the stone head lol coz he mentioned ot in a interview a dig on him but it stuck on Alex in a positive way
Ciryl Gane is becoming the greatest heavyweight stepping stone of all time.
I think Alex has the potential to be bigger than Conor. If you disagree fair point but Alex doesn’t speak English, has a way shorter mma career and when one breaks a toe the other steps in with a broken toe. Ik it’s premature but I said potential, imagine if he goes to heavyweight and beats Tom or Jon. He has a very strong argument
Link for the Chama shirt
Alex is awesome, respect
I don’t understand the confusion… all Dana is saying is as long as Jon is on the roster he is p4p #1.. p4p is not who is most active or who had the most exciting ko last week. If u make everyone the same size, who is champion? That is the question of p4p, and Dana believes the answer is Jon jones
agree. No-one has the same credibility to that title of P4P more than Jones. Yes Islam is great, Alex is amazing but Jones did what they are doing for more than a decade without a defeat.
@@ultimatefighttalk5525 I think most of the debate is with newer fans.. not saying casuals, because everyone erupts when u say that lol. Bruh forget rumble existed, he was ko everyone before pereira. Did he forget about ngannou too?
Rumble (RIP) had several losses before he fought for the title, and came up short twice. I personally thought he would be a contender for WW before he had to move up. Their careers, other than ko power, aren't really comparable. Sad we never got to see Rumble vs Jones though.
It's not just about KO's mate, it's about accomplishments. Rumble's first UFC run was nothing close to Alex, and he missed weight in that time. His second run while more impressive and memorable, still never led to him winning a title.

Yo Ariel here is a freebie for you next time you speak with Pereira. Question - If you are ever in the Blue Corner and you walk out first will your walkout change, since there will not be anyone but Bruce to shoot your little arrow at : )
And all Pereira has to do is bust out some magic for another win 🤣
When I saw Alex in glory I already knew he should go to the ufc and look what he is doing can’t blame Izzy a lot of fighters would be scared to fight Alex
Glover saw it coming !
Pound for pound is if they are all the same size. Not is they can go to different divisions.
Alex is REAL… that’s the difference. He’s doesn’t have to fake it or try cuz he’s real. He is HIM! Chama!
Can someone who’s watched the video be kind enough to put time stamps? Maybe in the comments section?
Maybe Perreira KOs Ankalaev as well, but there are still too many doubts around his ability to fight Wrestlers. He needs to defeat Ankalaev. Period. After that he can move to Heavyweight.
payton talbot, action bronson, rebel wilson, who are these people my name is graham , and i enjoy spending time with my cat clive
Alex should only fight for the Heavyweight belt
I forgot why I never gave this podcast a chance and now I remember. That dude with beard(and hair) is literally the most derivative, generic commentator I've ever heard. He's like Reddit personified

I think Jiri might be onto something. Alex is a magic man.
43:00 co host is right. MVP could've easily played Ian's game and just laid on top of ian for the entire round, held on for dear life and out -point ian to a decision

Man ! All of this is because " I beat this guy" interview
Magomed gave a statement today " I'm not take him down, I'll knock him out"...

Where did he say this btw??
That’s what they all said lmao
I don't beleive Brian Ortega story of moving to LW. This doesn't make any sense. He just had a win against Yair and was one fight away from another title shot. Why would a guy let go of #1 contender match instead move up a weight class and start from scratch.
I am not accusing him of doing this deliberately but it seems because of his mental health issues he wasn't disciplined enough to maintain weight after his last fights.
Short notice fights are really good for Pereira, not many fighters want to grapple without a long camp to get into proper cardio shape..Which has forced some of his opponents to stay on the feet, which favors Alex..Hill and Yiri both have decent ground games, but without a camp, that becomes unlikely..Sometimes the stars align for fighters and they take advantage of the opportunities..I wouldn't want to see Alex fight Aspinall, that won't end well for Alex..People are delusional about Alex fighting at heavyweight..Alex would need several years to catch up skill wise with Jones and Aspinall..
The heavyweight division is the lowest skill division in the ufc. Aspinal is a rare exception to that
I think aspinal wins currently until I see a heavyweight bodied Alex. But I don’t think it’s as clear cut as people think
@@seanmower3926 Not saying Alex couldn't win, cause he could win, it's a fight, but it's very unlikely..Tom is longer, Tom is smart, and that would most likely be a ground fight, that Tom dominates..Think he has a little better chance against Jones, but that probably won't happen..
Again and again we have p4p debates without even knowing the meaning of it. It definitely doesn't mean which champion can become a champion in other weight class. It means if all champions are in the same weight class then who'd come out on top. Can you think of Pereira defeats Islam if they are same weight. I'll put Perreira even behind Sean O'Malley and Leon Edwards.
Early prelims had started when I Ige got call. Think about that

Ariel is Peace & Love ❤
G'day Mate
And at this point, a win over a Bones that cheated all his career and wants a soft landing with Stipe has nothing to do with Alex's GOAT status. If Poatan manages to add that 3rd belt, he would have to be consensus GOAT just on sheer merit alone (only 2-division Glory AND 3-division UFC)
Plus goat debate is about who got the greatest accomplishment in the history of the sport, who is the greatest? And 3 division champion is arguably the greatest accomplishment in the history of the sport, so loses matter less in goat debates than it is in TBE debate, who is the best ever?
It's not like TBE, who is the best fighter ever? Which is more about who got the best skills and and would theoretically beat everyone if they were in the same weight class. It's very hard to proof TBE unlike goat status.
So poatan has a very good chance of becoming the goat, he doesn't need to beat jon jones.
I like Jamal hill. But he doesn't last a round in rematch
Nobody cares about the pound for pound narrative~ listen it’s about who is the best , no matter the weight
I love Jiri but the voodoo was a lil bit too much and at my eyes worked against him.
I know he will be back stronger and will learn from this.
If Ankalaev earned his right to fight against Poatan with the win over Johnny Walker to me thats bs n1.
Everyone wants to see that fight for the style Ankalaev brings against Poatan but i should earn it on the cage not on social media.
Leon has no business being in p4p discussion. 2 wins over Usman and 1 over a terrible Colby. Wtf is going on lol
U spund crazy.... who was beating usman???? Usman cleared the division yhen did it again
Usman was pound for.poumd #1

Nobody is going to be excited if you keep putting fighters on long win streaks with finishes down like this, especially when you are in the media.
Fans are simple minded, they will latch on to that more & more.
Real martial artists would see that Ankalaev is deserving.
The fanbase is toxic as hell so I'll say this too since there is a lot of Islamophobia going on in the sport; I am a Mexican fan & martial artist who adores Alex... And Ankalaev may be his hardest fight yet, and I want nothing more than to see this fight since both fighters can finish the fight with their hands & have very different styles & credentials.
