Not necessarily since they can reroute and go through Texes and southern New Mexico and go through Tuscson AZ.
They can go through Utah, Las Vegas, etc, Colorado, etc. There are so many ways to get through to AZ it's why we don't have the shortages we seeing other states. I've never seen any shortages in my area ever.
The rural areas are growing tremendously in AZ, which can account for the shortages there.
My Dollar Tree in Phoenix is full full full. Our Grocery Store's are full full full.

I saw expired milk being sold and made a comment to the manager. Even accounting for differences in currency, I would say our prices are double and half again more than what they're paying down there.

Knorr side dishes states that there's only 1 serving in a single package. So the high prices on that product are absolutely ridiculous, since you can't feed your family on 1 single package, you have to buy 4 packages for a family of 4 people, and that turns out to be highly expensive on a tight budget and low income families.

    Hello Steve, from Dusty Acres.
Welcome to the Grand Canyon state.
I'm in rural NW Arizona, grew up in SW Arizona. My spouse and I come from very large families. We have relatives as well as friends throughout the state.
Many in Arizona are Mormons, Catholics or Native Americans even in rural areas and small towns. The people often have large families, they get together often and they also help everyone in the community. Most people usually are related to each other or know each other because they are after all, our hometowns. Although the past 4 years, we have many that have moved here from big cities into our rural areas. Some will stay but often, many move on. Our towns have grown in population and traffic is terrible because we didn't have the infrastructure for so many vehicles that are now on our roads. There are many traffic accidents now. Our schools are over crowded too. Often for the newbies, I believe it is a culture shock not to have many modern conveniences. They are often surprised and concerned, they actually call the police on people because many open or conceal carry here in Arizona. It had happens to my nephew often. We do not need a permit to carry, for open or concealed. We will buy in bulk because we actually do cook at home, take lunches to work and preserve food for an emergency. We often re-can some bulk items for everyday use , not long term store. We will put flour, sugar and other items into smaller containers. There are not fast food restaurants, grocery stores or even convenience stores near many of us. Sometimes I don't go to town but once a month.
Many live many miles from town and on dirt roads, like us. Believe it or not, many have to haul water or have it delivered and many are not on the power grid because there is no power out in their area. Water comes from an aquifer that is thousands of feet down or what one can collect during rain. They rely on other ways for their utilities. Also we get storms often, even wind/ dust storms due to the high winds in our area, the power goes out often, so does the internet connection if one has it at all. We have to be self sufficient. We also deal with wildlife, all kinds of snakes, yes even rattle snakes, scorpions, coyotes, skunks, deer, Rams, Elk, roaming cattle livestock and much more. Arizona is open range country, so cattle and livestock are allowed everywhere, even on our roads. Livestock has the right of way believe it or not. Unfortunately if someone hits one, that person will be held accountable and have to pay for that animal and if its a bull, one will pay dearly to the rancher. If the cow is pregnant, the person will have to pay for the cow and unborn calf. This is because the cattle is the livelihood of the rancher. A person must pay for their own secure fence to keep cattle off of their property otherwise any damage done by the cattle will cost the homeowner not the rancher. Please be careful and alert when driving in Arizona.
I hope this helps others that may visit or move to Arizona.
Stay safe and enjoy your visit to Arizona. There is a lot of history here in Arizona with many things to do, especially for the outdoors type person.
It is a beautiful state. Currently the desert is full of color because of all the wild flowers and cacti that are in bloom.

Arizona, Nogales, Tucson, Bisbee and Sierra Vista, etc. You stay safe down there, crime is way up from the reports I'm getting from family because of the non US citizen that are now there. I get updates a couple times a week from family of how the hospitals and clinics are full and store shelves are sparse. They have trouble getting pricriptions filled too. They make trips to Tucson and Phoenix to try to stock up because they can't find some items and prices are up there as well.
Always try to be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for cattle and livestock there too. My niece's husband hit one at night on a dark road, they paid dearly for it and their insurance rates went up.

Mayonnaise is really easy to make, I do it all the time; here is a quick recipe that tastes like Helmon's Mayonnaise: you will need a blender, or a strong arm and a whisk and a food safe container, and a spoon or flat tool to push down the mayonnaise on the sides of the blender or bowl:
2 eggs (you can get away with one egg)
1 cup avocado oil (you can use olive oil but it will add a taste, or you can use any 'light' oil)
    2 tablespoons plain white vinegar
1/2 tsp (you can use 1/4 if it's too strong for you) garlic powder (NOT salt)
    1tsp salt
    put the egg(s), salt, and garlic powder into a bowl or your blender; blend, or whisk;
blender: with the blender running slowly pour in 1/2 the oil, then add 1 table spoon of white vinegar; it will thicken, slowly add the rest of the oil (it might get so thick that you have to stop the blender and push down the sides), then the last tablespoon of vinegar; stop the blender, push down the sides quickly incorporate, then put into container (it should taste like mayonnaise) and refrigerate.
If hand blending it will take longer, and you will stop whisking to add more oil, it will take longer to thicken but will do so, just follow the directions. Once thickened to mayonnaise consistency, then put into a container and refrigerate.
It will last a week in the fridge.
By making it yourself you will control ingredients AND save money. This is considered Keto & Carnivore safe, and low glycemic (you'll have to check to see how to count if diabetic).
Take care everyone, we're all in this together

They are focusing in on not maintaining high inventories as a way to control overhead costs due to those taxes. That is why you don't see the stores with high inventories as they used to have. It is not nefarious. It is not due to implied shortages. It is only a business decision to improve profits.

I went shopping today at the local grocery store. Normally here in San Diego we dont see shortages. Even during the height of the pandemic we wernt seeing shortages like the rest of the country was seeing. Today there were big gaps/half the usual amount of potatos and other random things (mostly produce). It was weird. I went early in the morning after they just restocked. Also, the beef area was very very low. Iv never seen that before.

There are a lot of things they are doing to "restrict" food, but let's understand about vinegar before we jump to conclusions that aren't true. The collapse in oil production, as a result of the global shutdowns and reduced fuel consumption, has led to an extreme shortage of petrochemicals such as methanol. As a result, acetic acid production has also been reduced significantly. Vinegar is a combination of acetic acid and water made by a two-step fermentation process. This why stores are low or out of vinegar.

When I open a dehydrated #10 can, I'll mylar bag some of it up and add an oxygen absorber to it. Good for years. Then I'll use what's left in the can within a year. If it's something like onions, I'll divide it into a lot of smaller mylar bags, and open them as needed. The mylar bags and oxygen absorbers are inexpensive, and sold on Amazon.

Steve.. what you are seeing mostly... is the standard operating procedure for a grocery that is short on employees.
Order just enough just for the shelf unless it's a sale item or seasonal surge.
Only handle product once to get it to the shelf. Backstock means somebody has to handle stuff twice and you don't have people for that.
    Bad people don't rotate stock.
Whatever is at the back of the shelf stays there.
Everything an employee has to touch something it cost you time for people you don't have.
Shortages sure. But what your showing is more a shortage of manpower.
This is why Sam's is so attractive. Just put a pallet out.

They now have plastic and crickets in them.
I got sick three times in a row in one month right after eating them. They became a hard lump in my stomach that wouldn't digest. Finally threw all away . Will never touch them.agsin..
It is sad for college age kids , those kinds of cheap noodles were a staple food for them.

Update Savannah Georgia. Just went to one of our newer dollar tree stores. They still had a few of the $.25 seed packets left, but they have been well picked over. The health and beauty section was about half empty. So was the cleaning products. They were putting the larger bottles of dishwashing soap on the top shelves. I’m 5 foot eight I was able to get one of them. The refrigerator section looked well picked over. One of the things they’ve started to carry is fully pasteurized milk, which does not have to be refrigerated The one I got has Best Buy date of 02/04/25. Always remember to get boxes of matches and lighters while you’re in the store. 😊

@@homesteadgal4143 From the Augason Farms website FAQs. QUESTION: Do you offer products that are certified non-GMO? ANSWER: We do not. Because we source raw ingredients from numerous suppliers throughout the United States and occasionally from international locations, we are unable to certify that our products are consistently non-GMO. They just don't list GMO on their labels because the law is they must if the KNOW the food contains GMO. They are skirting the issue. Eventually, the FDA will probably require them to make such a statement on their label. Right now, the basic minimum label requirement is "Contains GMO" if they know it does or are actively including GMO's. It does not cover "we don't know".

Bread from a local bakery is normally delivered in the morning. Since people want fresh bread, the store doesn't want a lot of bread left over at the end of the day. So the store will only order approximately the amount that they will sell in the day.
If you are visiting the store in the early evening, I would expect that the shelves are not full.
What you saw is not a logistical issue. What you saw is not a shortage issue. And you know that.

In my area of NH, open carry is not uncommon. It would probably raise some eyebrows in the s.e. corner, where the population is denser and many folks commute to the Boston area for work. It does indeed give you a start if you're not used to seeing it.
My local stores are well stocked. Weekly loss leaders/sale items tend to sell out in a few days if it's a popular item. Produce quality has gone downhill on many products. Prices are high on most things, of course.
