- Here we see several trains of R142 and R142A equipment running in service on the 6 line. Since May 2018, R142A cars do not regularly run on the 6 line, but weekend construction necessitated a temporary return of these types of cars to 6 service. Enjoy!

I really miss the R142A on the 6 line
Ismael Leal The R142A and R142s remind me of the legendary Redbirds that ran on the 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 lines.
Ismael Leal I have not rode the train of many colors but I rode the Redbirds when I was a little boy living in the Bronx during the 1980's and 1990's. I mostly rode on the Redbirds on the 2 & 5 lines and sometimes on the 4 & 6 lines too.
I also remember visiting the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center back in 1995. New York City was very different back then and I miss it.

Sunday at Javits Center Auto Show, I was coming home from 34th-Hudson to 42nd-GC; on the Lexington Avenue Line, and I finally spotted it!!
I miss the R142/As on the Entire Lexington Avenue Line. When I starting rail fanning in 2011, the Lex line was my first exposure to the NTT trains other than the R160s, how they sounded, how the automated announcements were laid out.
I think the R142S’ really fit the 6 line.

Ford Escape The Redbirds that ran on the number 6 line in the 1990's were the R29, R33WF, and the R36WF. Some of these Redbird trains had orange colored doors on the inside.

I miss the r142a on the 6. Rip r142a 6 1999-2018. R142 on the 6 used to be back in 2001. Some r142 on the 6 train from jerome yard and during weekend construction. The r62a is back on the 6 during the 90s with yellow stickers and now purple to a green stickers.

Jeremy Naraine They had the Redbirds of the following types running on the 6 line in the 1990's and they also had yellow stickers on them too.

These Redbird trains ran on the 6 line together with the R62As during the 1990's and some of them had orange colored doors on the inside.
Jeremy Naraine The Redbirds R29, R33WF, and R36WF used to be on the 6 line too. Sadly most of these trains were dumped in the ocean between 2001 & 2003.

Why did they switch out the new cars for the old ones?
Tenthrone For the following reasons:
To supply NTT cars for the Flushing 7 Line CBTC by converting them into R188s.
To move the R62As to the 6 so they can increase service on the line.
To bolster Kawasaki’s track record for the R211 contract.
6 Local And Express Trains R142 and R142A
Man, I miss these cars on the 6. I kinda wish the 7 didn’t steal them from the 6.
I wish that didn’t happen to, but the 7 line need the NTT trains in order for CBTC to work on that line

Sure, but the R142A’s were MY childhood. So I honestly miss those more.
EmperorOfNYC The R142 and R142As didn't come into existence until 1999 or the year 2000. The Redbirds ran on the 2, 4, 5, 6, & 7 lines long before these new technology trains were built.
The R110A and R110B were the first new technology trains that were built and ran in the early 1990's and were the prototype of the R142 trains. The technology of the R110A and R110B were used on the R142 trains. Now the R110A and R110B are retired and will never be used for passenger service again.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t my childhood trains. I haven’t been a teenager for that long so when I went to go live on the 6, it was for eight or nine years, and the R142A’s were the trains so happened to grow up on.

Part of the story is Wrong notice how if you were on the seven R62 used to run there and they switch to the 6 line and R142a got converted into R188 and also notice That R62 in the seven line has a green circle on the LED and on the 6 line

@@transitcity Most of the R142As were converted into R188s, but some remained afterwards on the 6 Line until May 2018. The last R142A set that was at Westchester Yard was transferred to the 4 Line. Also the cars from the 7 to the 6 were R62As, not R62s.

frank scalera You don’t need R142As back on the 6. What you need is extra R62A 6 trains to add service on the 6.
Glenn Bullock ALL of the R188s should stay on the Flushing Line. The R262s are for fleet replacement and Lexington Avenue CBTC.
frank scalera I don’t know where you got that information from but the R262s are definitely NOT coming next year. They haven’t even decided on the budget for that new fleet yet.
