There's just something about Keitel that gets me. His acting always seems so incredibly real, and Mean Streets is one of my favorite movies of its genre. Basically, if Harvey Keitel is in it, I'll give it a watch. Such a cool guy.
Absolutely agree, Mean Streets is awesome
You should check out "Who's That Knocking At My Door". Scorsese and Keitel art film from 1967.
@@thegreasedpig added it to my watchlist, thanks.
You might love him in The Grand Budapest.
I'll add to the list :) one of my faves was Holy Smoke! with Kate Winslet, I believe it's one of his greatest performances. They are FIRE together. He is a dude who rescues and "de-programs" people who fall victim to cults. Great little film. Jane Campion, who directed The Piano. I just love her films too.
Stephen could have done an entire show with him! Would have loved more.
same here, never have enough of good story teller
yes interview was way too short
What a guy, that Harvey!
I think Harvey wanted to keep going...he looked surprised that the interview was over and he obviously enjoys telling stories.
The best actors always do.
that is my one critique of Stephen's, he shuts interviews down suddenly - and so fast - and guests look stunned. But I also think it was really weird how Harvey kept saying his wife was "hungry." I am still thinking on it...that was weird thing to say and that's why I think Stephen shut it down so fast. He did something similar w Hugh Grant and I loved it.
@@divagirllove3977 The weirder part for me was when he said he asked her over for a drink and she said no and then remarked how he'd spent a lot of money on her.
Ive noticed a few guests lately are either surprised at the short interview or perhaps the absence of discussion on why they're truly there. I'm not sure if he just doesn't steer correctly, ask the right questions or maybe I'm just reading too much into it but it's not just Stephen, cause I've noticed it with Seth as well recently. I think the pandy may have ruffled up something with them both
They're both great tho and I watch every single upload regardless
What a great actor. Every role he is totally convincing and that is what makes him one of the greats.
If a person can fake sincerity.
Too true. His acting is some of the best I've ever seen. It goes beyond a script and feels like it's being spoken by a real person.
Not to take anything away from him, but shouldn't that be the standard for acting, convincing roles?
@@lordbuddybear It's not just acting, but there is a whole package to acting and then also a whole package to be a star actor. Charisma is part of that. There are good actors, but boring. So they might make character actors, but not the stars.
I recommend a movie called The Duellists featuring Mr. Harvey Keitel himself & Keith Carradine.
Can someone give Harvey a much much longer interview?
Harvey was filming a movie next to my house last year. Although I respect actors privacy when they were finished and he was headed to the clubhouse I asked him to take a picture with my dog and he graciously obliged. I can't tell you what a kind and gracious man he is in person. A true Icon.
Thanks Harvey
Harvey is such a lovely man, what a lovely story.
Harvey Keitel is one of the all time greats!
I wish people gave Keitel more attention than they do, he's such a great actor it's a shame he's reduced to being in obscure films in recent years. At least Wes Anderson is still using him frequently! I would love to see him in more films, he's always a favorite.
I love that Colbert let’s him speak
Harvey, you are one lucky talented dude, much respect.
Utter legend. Mean Streets is incredible.
I love it! Harvey is the exact opposite of DeNiro in interviews. Loquacious to Robert’s single syllable answers.
Two sides of the same coin!
I love the genuine humble bow of thanks he gives to the crowd for the applause. It's so simple and easy to do, but not enough do it. Keep it going pal!
"The Duellists" is one of my favorite films. A rare gem from Keitel and Ridley Scott.
The DENIRO STORY is priceless! How cool & strange?
This is fantastic real story. Late night TV needs more of this. Thank you Mr. Keitel for doing what you do all these years.
Too bad the interview with Harvey wasn't longer.
I bow to you with respect Mr. Keitel.
Amazing actor....he has the ability to show dimension between his dialogue...his acting was unparalleled in Thelma and Louise..you could hear his inner thoughts
I was 5 years old in 1994 and Harvey was the villain in Monkey Trouble lol he's been in my fave movies since I was a kid..he killed the role of Angelo Bruno in The Irishman and he'll do it again in Lansky 💯
Apparently, the second time Keitel met his future wife, 17 years later, she was hungry for more than food! Proving that persistence pays. What a hilarious and wonderful story!
I laughed at this more than I'd like to admit.
@@luuketaylor ~ That's 'cause you got good taste, Doc! And a good sense of humor. Thanks!
Or that both were finally able to see each other's value beyond just the superficial.
lol! But rather than persistence (Keitel did just let it drop after she refused the third date), the moral of the story seems to be "timing is everything" and "if it's meant to be, it's meant to be." The main reason it didn't work out the first time around is because she was already in a relationship with another man at the time. It's a lovely story!
@@yellowonesdontstop and @Ava Masquerade ~ I only jest, of course. I'm not averse to a little bawdy humor, but nor am I a cad, either. Also, it was a sly double-entendre, as it can be taken a couple of ways. Hungry for a love, for a relationship, not just for the physical act. Think the love connection was there from the start, at least for Harvey. He was smitten at first sight. Happy for him that he got a second bite at the apple, though it's kind of sad it took so long.
Reply above was for Ava, as it wasn't posting to her reply for some reason. In response to your reply, would just say that he was persistent, he just wasn't going to be a pest. Which is a good strategy for both fishing and dating.
This is what late night talk show should be all about.
Looking good Harvey, or should I say The Wolf. He was born in 1939, did you know that? Good god.
My great-gramps was born in 1933. He's a silver fox as well lolz

A year AFTER my father and he looks older

The greatest genius of harvey is you can almost never tell if he’s acting or not, just feels like a regular guy who is bold enough to face the camera and just be himself:!
What a delightful interview. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing. 😇
No part of Pulp Fiction made me laugh harder than when Harv suddenly popped up as Winston Wolf. What he did with the comic aspects of that guy was incredible. Even that little “Mmmm” when he took a sip of the coffee made us laugh hysterically!
Before I can explain my love for Harvey Keitel-
I'm gonna a dictionary AND a thesaurus.
He was just getting comfortable. Is this gonna have an extended cut?
Harvey is so bad ass a great actor i love him
Harvey = Pure Joy!
What a legend! Love ya Harvey!
He's always so charming, always adored Harvey 😊
Wonderful interview, just wonderful.
When he said his wife was, “THAT ONE IN THE ROOM”.... I couldn’t hear anything else
Maybe we could have an entire show on stage with the two.
At first glance I thought this said he,d been married to Robert Deniro for 20 years... I was like WTF? Am I in the Twilight Zone
🎶You’re not gonna dieee🎶~Mr.White
✨🤍
Say The F*$#ing Words! - - - - Correct, Correct (Because along with the knee, the gut is one of the most painful areas a guy can get shot in- it takes time to die from your wound...... you're going to wish you were dead, but time is on your side)
Harvey Keitel in Bad Lt has to be one of the best performances of the 90s. He took that role to some dark and disturbing places.
Fell in love with him as Mr. White and was hooked! Love his love story and any story he tells. He’s absolutely a National Treasure! Much love and mad respect! Best to you & yours all! ♥️
Don't forget about Point Of No Return as the "cleaner." 😉😎
Ayyyee at the end, Stay Human plays "That Girl" by Stevie Wonder! That's the jam, and totally fits with this adorable story.
Sounds like HK is a good friend that people take advantage of. Sad fact, but the world is full of a lot of people like us.
And people always seem to forget him being in Thelma & Louise - total pro acting on display 👍
And clockers
Which one was he...? Do people seem to forget Brad Pitt or Michael Madsen from that movie? Who played the husband btw?
@@tylsimys67 Harvey played the detective tracking down Thelma & Louise. The husband was Christopher McDonald.
One of my favorite actors ever.
what a *legend* - awesome guy
That is the most romantic Hollywood love story I ever heard.
the fact that you feel that is most romantic story you've ever heard is astounding to me. Sounded more like a business transaction. She was hungry = she was broke. Okay, and 17 yrs later you run into same lady finally ready to put ring on it. So what?
@@divagirllove3977 he described it as love first sight, he got two dates out of her even though she was living with another man (so she wasn't very hungry, or she would have pounced on his Hollywood money and fame), doesn't see her for 17 years, sees her and feels the same way after all that time. Now they've been married for 20 years. She's not that pretty, not rich, not famous, not successful, but he always knew she was the one for him. He still sounds in love. Those things don't usually happen in Hollywood.
About being ready to get married, she was available and wasn't before. And he's Harvey Keittel! Of course she was interested. He could have lots of women. Especially after The Piano. Every middle aged woman was in love with him. But he wanted this love at first sight, rejected him, disappeared from his life for 17 years nobody lady. And still sounds in love after 20 years of marriage. All of that is rare even for average people.
Amazing,great,legendary 🙏
He has been married to DeNiro all these years? Good for them. You go guys!
Ok, now I am going to watch the video itself.
The man is an artist. Like Herman Hesse's "The Poet". It is the life he lives. Cool.
I thought he was the sexiest man alive in The Piano. Whewff! He struck sparks off me.
I hear you!
Such a great story teller!
Love that story ! "OK"
oh my my my… if not my first certainly my first in a very very long time… Mr. Keitel interview… this one a gem… a privilege… thank you… you are among my cosmological gifts, as is Mr. DeNiro… your performances have informed my life… ♥️ 🖖🏼
Stephen clearly respects Mr Keitel and graciously asks intelligent questions allowing his guest to answer at ease. Wonderful!
The title makes it sound like he's been married to Robert De Niro for 20 years.
Please have him on longer next time. He has some great stories to tell, I’m sure.
Thank you for your support Mr. Harvey Keitel.
He should be in the media like this for years ago ,He is great actor and respectful man
That story was so sweet!💯❤️
"I'm not a woo-woo guy, but..."
*The* now-definitive answer for 'disbelievers of fate', via Mssr. Keitel. 😏
Lollll
What an actor and human
I meet him that period in Rome..before his meeting with his wife...he was hilarious..nice person!
1st interview I've absolutely ADORED in forever! He's mesmerizing and so interesting. Love him!💜
This should have been a far longer interview.
He was AMAZING in Clockers
That's what I said he nailed that role
Love this actor!
Stephen Colbert always ends interviews when we want to hear more and in this case with such a great actor as Mr. Harvey Keitel who has more stories that we would like to hear as here when a good interviewer is needed.
Wonderful actor! ☺️👌
"Ok" A great answer!
I like Harvey! Good actor! His face speaks a lot! I am glad him and Robert De Niro get along!
Legend.
I did not think it was fair to give such little time to such a great actor.
I love how Lansky's DVD cover has a recommendation from AARP lol. Harvey in Bad Lieutenant is one of the greatest performances ever.
I love him in The Piano
So charming
Harvey Keitel in bad lieutenant is still his most disturbing role.
Agree- he made a bad lieutenant worse
I loved this interview!
An amazing actor. 👌
Such a cool guy.
Harvey seemed disappointed that he couldn't continue talking to Stephen! This was a fantastic interview, and Harvey is an excellent guest, and a wonderful talent!
I thought he had retired it’s so good to see him 🥰
What a treasure!
loved it
Loved him in National Treasures.
Such a cool guy
What a legend
Wow that was really good
Love ya Harvey!
I love Harvey Keitel man

Go on, Harve! BE that woo-woo guy! #LOL
He's wearing sandals! Love.
Such an old school guy, man…
I first saw him from Sister Act. ❤️
How cute was he tho.. I could listen to his stories all day :)
Loved him in Ulysses Gaze & Death Watch. Still love him of course!
I never knew Harvey Keitel was married to Robert De Niro! Learn something every day, eh?
