Deathloop takes place in the year 1963, but makes no reference to any real world places or events suggesting it's not our 1963. Dishonored 1 and 2 take place in the years 1837 and 1852 respectively and Dishonored 2 establishes that temporal anomalies are a thing that exist in their world. I think it's entirely plausible that Deathloop is set in the same world 100 or so years on from the Dishonored games with all the associated technological advancements.

This was sort of my read when the dueling pistols showed up. There aren't any references to any real world locations, and it's entirely possible that the Empire of the Isles became The Motherland at some point after the events of Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider. Project Horizon and the AEON Project may have just found another location where the barrier between the world and The Void was thin, and Wenjie Evans found a new way to harness the energies of The Void that didn't involve a human sacrifice to create a new Outsider.

I agree but to a slightly different extent... There is a lot of evidence that points towards Dishonored. The whale song, whalebone references, the dueling pistols, the powers etc. but it could be an entirely different parallel universe. That is probably why there is a rift story behind everything and why time and multiple dimensions are mentioned in the games audio files. Think of it like the ending in Bioshock Infinite, where it's all connected through the lighthouses, or like SpiderMan into the Multiverse....

I think the Dueling Pistols are a direct link to Dishonored, and if so, this gives Arkane the freedom to make different versions of "Dishonored" all the way up to modern day and beyond... You might have to rethink that theory since there is a lot of evidence that points towards Dishonored. The whale song, whalebone references, the dueling pistols, the powers etc. It could be an entirely different parallel universe, probably why there is a rift story behind that and why time and multiple dimensions are mentioned in the games audio files. Think of it like the ending in Bioshock Infinite, where it's all connected through the lighthouses, or like SpiderMan into the Multiverse....

@@xarnuh5140 @Xar Nuh D2 ruins the Outsider by giving him a defined backstory and making him... edgy.
D1 Outsider seemed to dish out his mark to see what moral quanderies would await those he gave it to, seemingly not caring about what happens, good in the aspect of making his character feel like a God-like being. They don't give him a solid backstory; There's a heavy impression that he's a God who's been around since the beginning of existence and has always been giving some sort of sick justice (Rat boy is an example I'd give of that).
D2 is badly written because it does the first game again but through an invading force making it less impactful because Emily/Corvo just goes back to Dunwall, who cares what happens in Serkonos. But focusing on the Outsider: He seems obsessed with the Kaldwins by giving Emily his mark (I know that's the excuse for gameplay but it affects the writing) instead of dropping in on Corvo every once in a while to reflect on how this happened and to see what he'll do to the invaders. His backstory of being made by a cult is so underwhelming (Especially how he reinacts being put on his sacrificial altar) and is kinda just lame; It's like the new writers watched JJ Abrams talk on mystery boxes and thought "God, why didn't the other guys do that for the first game? No matter, we'll add one in.".
And then he's butchered in DotO: He's so deranged that he cannot allow Billie to have her arm and eye (His fault, mind you, the timepiece in D2 was a massive error for world building) and psychotically just rips it from her with some really awful diagloge and voice acting. And he taunts you a few times like some edgy anime villain until you see him in stone at the end of the game.
And I've got to say (Just to vent somewhere), the thing with whales in these games has gone way over what it should've; Bones charms aren't exclusively made from whale bone so there's not a direct link from Outsider to Whales. The reason whales were in the void in the first game was because of the whale oil being an essential part of their industrial age, and I'm pretty sure (Not entirely confident that it is in the game) but Jindosh was essentially Nikola Telsa going over to a different kind of energy and that would show that the whale imagery would only make sense in the first game, it makes no sense that the source of the voids power manifests in form of a giant whale eye in the last game.
Anyway, I'd hate to see more things pile onto the Dishonored "Universe" because it's been changed for the worse by more entries, if it's it's own thing then the writers can build whatever they want. But if a new, good Dishonored game comes out it'll have to ignore the last game (And hopefully D2, too) because it's an extremely dumb move killing off the centerpiece of your universe that gives people magic.
D1 is most probably my favourite game of all time so all of this comes from me wanting better for it.

@@xarnuh5140 I wasn't entertained the first time I played D2 but then I replayed it in high chaos and has a pretty decent time.
Gameplay wise, it's not too much better: Slightly better swordplay, ai is improved, more non lethal options(I see that as a negative because it makes non lethal an easier path), the map design is good but I cant say that them being as big as they are is a good thing, Emily doesn't have as cool a powerset as corvo (It's more for utility with her domino power and memorise), but a 'feature ' that really irritated me through the game is that both Corvo and Emily now have voice actors who can't stop talking and giving you information on what to do during missions with no way to turn that off because they couldn't be bothered to set those kind of things up in the maps.
If you don't see it as a Dishonored game and you see it as Doom, you might enjoy it more. But it's definitely downhill from Dishonored 1 in practically every aspect.

@@xarnuh5140 oh but never buy Death of the Outsider, it doesn't even have good gameplay; you get 3 powers all unlocked from the beginning and they are so dull: You get half blink (You place a marker on where you want to blink and press blink again to go to it), you get a version of dark vision where you walk around the map and semblance which "takes someone's face" basically makes you invisible to the enemy.
And then there's a sword you unlock later that kind of has a windblast ability but not as good as Corvos level 1 windblast.
