The result is astonishing.
There is an amazing dynamic created by the way Tony and Chelsea each seem to know just when to let the other take the lead on this channel. The audience reaps the benefits of two very distinct styles of two extremely skilled photographers/educators. Sets it apart from all the other photography channels.
Not sure if you are still checking for comments 7 years later but this was an excellent tutorial for me. I'm just getting started in multiple exposure photography and I like how you did the final blending in Photoshop. Thanks for posting.
What a great instructor you are! You make everything so clear! Thank you so very much for this video! I was a bit apprehensive about starting to play around with multiple exposures but after watching your video, I feel that I'm ready to go right ahead and give it a try! Thanks again!
Great tip, effortlessly demonstrated. Thank you. I am soooo trying this tomorrow! 😁
Great video. Terrific ideas for doing double exposures. Will definitely be trying the silhouette technique. Thanks!
YES!! You don't know how long I've been waiting for you guys to make a video on this, thank you sooo much!
Double exposure made super easy.......you guys are the best. Thanks.
Great video! Very nicely explained. Thank you for posting!
She sure does and thank you for all this wonderful tips, I have learned so much watching this videos and many of Tony's and Chelsea's, I am finally using my camera the right way;RAW+manual! it is amazing how much difference it makes from auto! Thanks guys!
P.S. : I already ordered a copy of your Book Tony, can't wait to get my hands on it!
Digital010 Thanks!!
Very artistic something I think would look good printed and framed thanks for the tutorial.
Love viewing tutorials like these. I was aware of this functionality in my camera but after watching this video I'm inspired to create some interesting photos using it! Awesome job guys!! Also, could I perform many of the edits described in the video using photoshop elements? Thanks
Chelsea you make it look so easy!
Thanks for inspiring me to play around with this today. Got some really cool shots :)
So cool! Thank you for this tutorial!
Great video. The only time I have ever done this was by accident. I can't wait to try both methods.
That's cool Chelsea. Nice to to do things like that for your friends. Take it easy.
Very calming movie with the dog and the cup of tea :-)
I love these two
Nice, thanks for the tutorial!
I have done double exposure on photoshop and I'm familiar with this process, however, I have never tried that double exposure on the camera.
I have several Canon cameras but do not offer this feature. I recently got a used camera; Nikon D90 in which offers this feature. I will try this and work on this. Thank you for this education video, great examples.
pretty impressive!
Chelsea and Tony,
Many thanks for all the great tips, tricks, and effort to bring them to us, the unwashed, washed out, masses. I use Corel Painter to play around with impressionistic artistry. But, also, am constantly learning from folks like you about other software and its applications. Chelsea needs to keep a journal about her journey into photo artistry and then make a few episodes on her discoveries; wrong turns, stubbed toes, and all.
And Tony, your expose' on sensor size and how to correctly compare aperture as well focal length was just great. Between the two of you, you're doing a great service for the amateur and less-than professional level artist. Keep up these great offerings and see you Thursdays at 5:00pm.
Richard
RWJonesAIC Thanks, Richard!!
YES YES! I really wanted to ask Chelsea how to make one of this since I took a look at her portfolio
Nice job. You videos are improving all the time. the calm and friendliness in your voice really takes it up a notch. Did you guys hire a coach? BTW thanks, this is something I wanted to try in digital. I haven't made a double exposure since the 1970's.
Great video - I'm still trying to get my head around Photoshop (Elements) though... Such a large learning curb.. Just wondering if the book - Post Processing covers any of the "Elements" procedures - especially double exposure like the one explained in this video -
thx!
We want more, we want more....
The photo with Siobhan would make a perfect cover to a Photoshop training manual or to an advanced photography skills manual (Hint, Hint)!
Thanks!! I like the peanut shot!!
very nice - great job Chelsea
Thanks for the video, I'm looking forward to trying it. :)
Great video, nice delivery of steps not too rushed. Ps bought SDP great book. watching from UK.
Nigel Holland Thanks!
Excellent. Managed a few multiple exposures back in yeole film dayz, will have to give CS6 and digital a go, thanks Chelsea n gang!
wonderful work!!!
Great job on the video, Chelsea, and good information, I'll have to try this. And BTW I love my peak design strap as well....
I had no idea my camera even did this. Thank you so much!
By far the best background/lighting of all yours vids. Nice job.
Let me re-phrase for all the crazy CZcamsrs out there... by far MY favorite background/lighting of all your vids.
Hi guys, first of all I want to say thank you so much for the photography insight. My question is does this work with a t3i? My apologies if this has been asked already.
Thanks Chessa and Tony!
I learn A LOT from tour videos :)
Deepak Murthy Thanks!!
Tony Northrup Sorry for the typo.
I meant I learn a lot from your videos.
Would you recommend jumping ship to a Sony A7 Mark 2 or AS for travelling light in full frame?
I have an old Canon 5D Mark 2 and just bought a Sony A5100. I would like to purchase a full frame camera, bit still unsure if it's worth buying a heavy Nikon D750/D810 or going straight into the mirrorless full frame Sonys. Please help me.
I shoot landscapes, portraits and some street.
Thanks!
awesome, gonna try this out
Thanks again for this.
Well done Chelsea, you're getting better by the video in front of the camera, we want more Chelsea,
The reason for this comment is to just point out that these effects are available in Adobe elements 13, just for those people you Can't afford Photo shop, like me
Although we need to mention that cheap entry level bodies like my Canon 650D lack the Double Exposure Feature. So people like me need to use the Post Processing method ! :)
That being said, I need to say, thank you for all your videos. Your reviews and tutorials are very pleasant to watch, and the information I got from you is very valuable. :) You helped me a lot with picking my body, my lenses, etc !
Thank you.
I also included a post processing method for that reason
Yeah, I watched the whole video :)
That's why I said that THE post processing method is the ONLY one, users of entry level bodies, can use :)
The < was referring to the method you showed us :)
Cheers !!! :D
***** Hi Chelsea, greetings from Scotland. Thanks for another great video. I just wanted to point out that not all manufacturer's "entry level" DSLR are the same in this regard. The entire Pentax DSLR range inc the K 500, K 50 & K S1 has multiple exposure functionality in camera as std. Not sure if you were aware, as Tony and yourself never seem to touch on Pentax gear (maybe because they don't have a full frame DSLR option???). The one exception I think, was when Tony covered the medium format 645Z a while ago, pre release. (Hope you are at least going to review that at some point. )
the in-camera post processing features are something that varies largely from manufacturer to manufacturer, like how different car brands have more features for cheaper. Say a toyota might not have automatic AC or ESP, unless you pay some more extra, whilst I think Nissan you might end up paying less or you might get some features without having to pay "more than regular model".
I think same's with cameras. Pentax have plenty of stuff in their cameras, as does sony and samsung. I don't know where olympus and panasonic stand or fuji, but I think nikon and canon come last when it comes to in-camera processing features "for entry level" cameras. Even the premium cameras from them don't have as many as other brands do.
***** That's why I only use, Honda, Canon, HTC.
Tony have some epic face expressions. Thank you for the video
Very nice.. how about for those of use that have older cameras and do not have that feature on it. Another words doing itt manual. Thanks for the videos. Use to do double exposures with film
awesome chelsea! now i know how to do it..& tony looks awesome as always..hehe . thank you so much chelsea. yur video..easy to understand & i luv the way its done in photoshop, bcoz i dont have camera with multiple exposure capability...yet :-D
Very informative tutorial
Great pic of Tony on the newsprint.
I like how quickly and effortlessly she used Photoshop. Chelsea's no dummy head.
Hey guys I really love your channel. I'm from Mèxico and I'm wondering if you have spanish editions of your books. That would be wonderful
Nice you guy's-Thank you !
That is awesome I like them kind of pictures. I want learn how to do them pictures!!!

Chelsea's hair styled by Sandi the dog? LOL. That's one talented dog! Great video, great info.
Hi Mr.Tony. could you help me please ! i have nikon d800E but i had been problem in the focus points ... there were not appear in the view finder.. Thanks
Love you guys.
Don't think my T1i EOS 500D has this fuction
amazing
verry nice. but i don't get the second screen. i can only turn it of then.
i have the 7d mark ii
can you do a double exposure by d5300 ?
Is it possible to do M.E. with a T3i ?
How can I do double exposure with my Canon EOS 70D any help please.
I learned this amazing trick with DigitalRev TV in 2012
My 5D Mk II would allow me to select a burst of how many exposures I could make, most of the time I would release the exposure button and the sequence would stop immediately? I bought a Mk III and it rapid fires till I remove my finger, I can't find what is going on so far as it is news to me or the camera is defected ?
I have David Busch's Mk 111 book and I can't find the problem. I take Rodeo photos and can pretty well read and or correct the exposure.
I spent many years using good old 35mm film and was excited when Sony came out with the first digital camera around the year 2000 of course it was a flop, but I really liked The Fuji S5 for color later on.
If you have any suggestions please let me know? Thank You
How do you take multiple exposures with a Canon t6i?
How about a Photoshop book?
1:38 7D Mark 3????!!!
On my Nikon D7000 you have to enter the same menu with the little camera-->Multiple Exposures--> same as Chelsea said. But then it changes a bit. You take your first exposure, after which you 'must' press OK. Then the 2nd. If you forget the pressing of OK it will record to the card as normal.
Is that the peak design slide on the 7D Mk2. If so why have you braided/twisted the cable as in 3:15 on the video.
I love mine but I find that the anchors do tend to fray pretty easily. Wondering if braiding it will do more damage or prevent fraying?
Thank you
This is a very old video and really should be updated, particularly with the multiple exposure blend modes that you can use within camera. There’s also certainly techniques available with regarding the contrast of the multiple exposure images to get the best out of the function, which is not many been explained, but more than likely because it’s a very old video.
Chelsea...Please help. I recently purchased a 70d and saw this video on double exposure... However, When I started to play with different compositions, I noticed that all my photos have a very deep red cast. Am I doing something wrong???? . Please help.. Thanks.
You guys are good! I'm off to buy your book. ;-) Thanks for sharing! (Would you please consider either no music in the background (I hate that with a passion) or reduce that music volume, *please*? Thanks!)
the D3000 has something called Image Overlay, it works the same sort of way, and you can adjust exposure before merging the two images. but only in RAW.
Thanks!
Chelsea does it work for Nikon d5300,
Hi! Is this possible for my canon 550d? Please help me. I'm just a newbie learning.
can you kindly let me know what am doing wrong when ever i select photo for selling image it said not matching i tried so many times no luck any advice?
how to do it with nikon d5500? please
Saddly the APP sony made for some models, or it was disabled by them or it just dont work on the Sony A7 (mk1).
can this done on Canon 700d
When showing the canon 7d menu you mention its the same with the mk iii... are you referring to the 5d mkiii... and can multiple exposures be done on the 7d mki.
Yes, the 5D Mk III, but it seems to be in the same place on most Canons.
Tony Northrup 70D and 6D do multiple exposures, but only in JPEG. 60D and earlier do not. I suspect the Rebels do not. 70D and 6D menus are very different from 5Diii and 7Dii.
Hey, on the newer Nikons can you do the in camera live view multiple exposure? I know you cant on the D610 and D5200 that I have, wondered if thats changed for the D810 / D750?
talv Yep, she showed it on the D810.
Good job. but "hair styled by Sandi the dog"???
8:59
It's so much easier in post. I can't imagine why anyone would ever bother with doing it in camera, but I guess it's good to know.
What is SANDI's rate for hairstyling ?
What lens are you using for this shoot on your Nikon?
Is there a downside to using lossless compressed on the d810 vs uncompressed? And if so do you think its worth losing the extra 6 shots on the buffer for for wildlife?
Lossless compression is the best. It's like .wav vs .flac in audio, there's no difference other than space / filesize, both are the "real deal" and offer everything.
+Tony Northrup +Justin Eckert What song is used in this video? Edit: I just realized that you said the website the song was from so I am on bensound.com now. Actually I couldn't find the song lol.
thank u
Sony a7iii doesn't have in camera option to do multiple exposure photos... Anybody can find?
Nice! but how to do it with Sony Alpha cameras? I got A6000 and A7.
+GamesArt86 There is an app you can purchase directly on the A6000 camera called multiple exposure. I think it costs $5.
Chelsea, did you dub over yourself saying control "J" at 7:01? I need to try more of these soon.
what photoshop program are you using?
what a coincident, "Double Exposure" is this month's theme with the "Drink and Click" meetup groups
Hehehe what came first: “the chicken or the egg?” I literally just used the QR code IN that book to watch this video which was obviously recorded after the book was printed!
I see Chelsea was using peak design's camera strap system, how is that working out for you guys? i have their capture plate for mounting on my backpack straps since i am usually hiking all day in the middle of nowhere.
Arctic Gator we love them. We have a full review coming next week.
Coolness, looking forward to it!
