  • Understanding debits and credits will help you how to make debits and credits when you record transactions. This training tutorial shows the origin of debits and credits and how it evolved from the fundamental accounting equation. It’s the same idea as recording accounting equation transactions. The difference is that you use “T accounts” these are pages in a book called “the general ledger. The category of “T” account determines how you record transactions according to the definition of debits and credits. Once you can record these transactions properly in the T accounts, you can move on to making debits and credits in the general ledger.
