Top 10 HORRIFYING Facts About ANCIENT EGYPT

  • Ancient Egypt is one of the most fascinating places in the historical record. Their obsession with life after death, their grand pyramids and golden treasures, and the multitudes of evidence they left behind of their great works have captured the imaginations of people for thousands of years. However, underneath the veneer of mysticism and historical grandeur, Ancient Egypt was not always the most fun place in the world to live. Their justice system was often unfair and cruel, some of their medical practices were horrifying, and their devotion to the gods often went to insane lengths.

      Yes, but Egyptian slavery and servitude was not the same as what we imagine today, as slaves were often treated as part of a household, and evidence is being uncovered that most servents were devoted to those they served. Not that there weren't bad masters of course.

If you look at all the amazing feats they managed to do you'll find some really interesting things, especially in their archaeology. So please make us a video on what they managed to do, I think people don't really realize how advanced their practices were unless they've actually seen them for themselves, so I think that would be really interesting. And thanks for the videos they're great, please consider making a video. Thanks.

    Retainer sacrifices occurred only very early in the Old Kingdom, & it's been archaeologically proven that they were phased out by the end of the First Dynasty, being replaced by shabatis, symbolic figures that could 'magically' be brought to life, to serve after death.

    • @OcarinaSapphr-
      @OcarinaSapphr- Před 7 lety +3

      Actually, I need to restate: Retainer sacrifices were phased out over the course of the First Dynasty {very early in Egypt's long history- we're talking the Early Dynastic Period, predating even Old Kingdom Egypt- given that there were over 30 Dynasties, this may give you an idea of how long ago we're talking}; this' proven archaeologically, as the numbers/ chambers in the tombs dropped, indicating there were fewer & fewer- & the tomb of the first ruler of the Second Dynasty presented no evidence of retainer sacrifices: *Hor-Aha*, second pharaoh of the First Dynasty had 35 retainer sacrifices in his tomb, & 12 in 3 surrounding tombs enclosed in his funerary complex. *Djer*, his son & successor, had 318 retainer sacrifices in his tomb, & 269 retainer sacrifices buried in enclosures - *Djet* had 174 sacrificed retainers buried around his tomb at Abydos & 62 retainers buried around his tomb at Saqqara.
      *King Den*, about 230 individuals - *King Qa'a* helps illustrate the decline of retainer sacrifices, only 30 were sacrificed after his death. High nobles were also participants in retainer sacrifices, but likely experienced the same decline in their perceived necessity as pharaohs themselves did, & probably dispensed with it earlier; also, the people buried in King Aha’s complex were not just lowly servants, but were also rich nobles, so it wasn't merely about sacrificing a bunch of slaves. Also, the narrator keeps saying '*late* in Egyptian civilisation'- that is patently wrong.

      Moataz Alzhree then please explain it to me what i am missing in this? the Persian empire removed the last Native Egyptian Pharaoh, they occupied the land until Alexandra the Great invaded and conquered. Then declared himself as pharaoh and reinstated old Egyptian culture and his line ruled until the Roman empire took over which adopted some of the old customs such mummification and the worship of the old gods. its after all this we get to the Prophet Mohammed who did way with the many gods and old culture to replace is with islam. also all the modern Egyptian last names today have their roots in tribes from Saudi Arabia which is not African of Egyptian.
      so what am i missing from this history?

      According to 23 and me, I'm 27% North African and yes, 4% Middle Eastern because of Arab invasion in the country (the rest of my ancestry is European and Sub-Saharan African). So, in conclusion, at least 20% of my genes are similar to those of Ancient Egyptians and other populations of Northern Africa.

The great ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, described Egyptians as the happiest people he had ever encountered.

    Absolute and utter lies to say that servants were put to death in ancient Egypt. * They were not*. There is an instance where this seems to have happened in pre dynastic times, that is before 3000 BCE, but after that little statues called ushabtis were used to represent servants. The Egyptians had a very moral and ethical society, far better than some of the surrounding countries.

    • @imansol7269
      @imansol7269 Před 7 lety +3

      The Frenchman Stanley Well, politics has no influence in what I'm saying. Race is a social construct, ethnicity however, is based on the factual characteristics of a group of people. Colonialism and Imperialism put social systems in place to favor the ruling class. Thus, the idea of "race" was created as clear divider to distinguish members of society based on what physical characteristics they had. Excluding the cultural, regional, and in depth, the biological (dna) traits that a whole group of people had. To say all Europeans are white would be denying the vast ethnicities ranging across that continent. Same could be said for any continent. Ethnicity contains the biological, cultural, and locational identities of a group of people. Race is based solely on appearance, which is made relevant by society. And I agree if your saying each individual has different aptitudes, but not if your linking aptitude to race.
      Also, traditionally, Western society has had only two genders. But different parts of the world, such as India, and Indonesia, have 3 to 5 genders. Gender is also a social construct. Sex, however, isn't, which should be obvious why that is.
