As someone who has had at least 13 concussions, including surviving 3 IEDs & a RPG that permanently disabled me in Afghanistan I can tell you repeatedly having hits to the head & trauma can destroy your life . I was a prisoner of my own home for almost 7 years after the RPG , unable to even drive . Then we moved to Branson Mo and I began fishing & started to emerge from A dark hole . Then in a span of 6 weeks I was involved in 2 bad car accidents suffering 2 more concussions & I’m right back where I was . Going to therapy 4/5 times a week because of other’s negligence. I don’t know what the future holds for me but I’m going to do my best to live whatever life I have left to the fullest . Nothing in this life is guaranteed I learned that long ago , but taking unnecessary risks when you already have had tremendous trauma to your head is a no win situation.

I've had both shoulders worked on. Right one is okay, left one isn't. My PT is a Andrew Luck fan. My PT tried everything he knew to get me back whole. Well it didn't work. I'm not in sports just a guy that wants a pain free life. Well that ain't happening. I totally understand Mr. Luck's decision. I wish him the best in life because that's more important than a football career!
He was that guy talent wise. There were 0 issues with his play the colts just didn't protect him and the injuries he got from that ended his run before it could ever really begin
The Colts assumed a great QB like Luck could solve O-line problems like Peyton Manning did. Manning made average or poor lines look great by getting the ball out quickly. Colts didn't realize Luck is different from Manning. He could be great too but needed protection because he holds the ball a bit longer
Luck is a personal hero of mine. When he retired, I was going through some tough times and not sure which direction to go career-wise. His courage and example meant a lot to me at that time. Respect to him for making the best decision for him and his family regardless of pressure

I remember that first matchup with Denver and Peyton Manning. It was an epic struggle and Indy got the win, but I remember Luck taking way too many hits. I think he was out for a few games after with a lacerated Kidney. That was only the beginning of his career. So Luck beat Manning, but Manning played every game that season and Luck didn't.
Luck did the right thing by retiring . He played football since he was a child . All that contact and hits takes a toll on a player . And being a qb all his life takes a toll on your arm . If he played longer he could have been seriously physically and neurologically damaged permanently, like for example Steelers 19 year center Mike Webster, RB Earl Campbell and others . Luck went to Stanford for a reason - intelligence. He was smart enough to see that wouldn't last long in the NFL if he stayed longer on a team with an offensive line that could never give him the protection he needed. He always had a mediocre offensive line and the punishment just wasn't worth it.

I was a prisoner of my own home for almost 7 years after the RPG , unable to even drive . Then we moved to Branson Mo and I began fishing & started to emerge from
A dark hole . Then in a span of 6 weeks I was involved in 2 bad car accidents suffering 2 more concussions & I’m right back where I was . Going to therapy 4/5 times a week because of other’s negligence. I don’t know what the future holds for me but I’m going to do my best to live whatever life I have left to the fullest . Nothing in this life is guaranteed I learned that long ago , but taking unnecessary risks when you already have had tremendous trauma to your head is a no win situation.

I've had both shoulders worked on. Right one is okay, left one isn't. My PT is a Andrew Luck fan. My PT tried everything he knew to get me back whole. Well it didn't work. I'm not in sports just a guy that wants a pain free life. Well that ain't happening. I totally understand Mr. Luck's decision. I wish him the best in life because that's more important than a football career!

He was that guy talent wise. There were 0 issues with his play the colts just didn't protect him and the injuries he got from that ended his run before it could ever really begin
The Colts assumed a great QB like Luck could solve O-line problems like Peyton Manning did. Manning made average or poor lines look great by getting the ball out quickly. Colts didn't realize Luck is different from Manning. He could be great too but needed protection because he holds the ball a bit longer

Luck is a personal hero of mine. When he retired, I was going through some tough times and not sure which direction to go career-wise. His courage and example meant a lot to me at that time. Respect to him for making the best decision for him and his family regardless of pressure
I was never a colts fan but i always truly like Andrew luck as a player it was truly sad to watch him leave the league but ir was for the Best...he came he play and left before the colts head Office took everything from him

Not many pro athletes with his potential are brave enough to say "fuck this shit I'm out" in their prime, but I'm glad he was smart enough to do so and prioritized his health over fame. Also helps he wisely spent/invested the money he did make while playing.

Have to wonder if Luck regrets not going into 2011 Draft. Would've gone to Carolina, better OL, RB, defense, went to Super Bowl. He could still be playing.
Not really tragic at all. He's a multi-millionaire and he left the game because he realized his health is priceless. Smart guy with a bright future whether that's in or out of football. No, not even close to a tragic story.

The Colts front office, cheapest in the NFL then and now, v refused to sign even an average front line to protect him. They, as always, shot themselves in the foot- or Luck’s shoulder.
I played soccer for many years, my biggest regrets looking back, why did I play many games hurt when I didn’t have to.
Now I can’t even walk hard. Taking care of yourself is your responsibility because, after the football years you are on your own and none of these people will be there to deal with your heath issues. Andrew luck studied at Stanford.

There's nothing tragic. The funny thing about QB is if you get the ball out quick enough, you can cut the hits to take in half. Luck held on to the ball way too long and never ever slid.

I am Hooser. I just started getting into football. I knew about Andrew Luck and watched him play growing up but I never knew why he retired. I did research and discovered the tragedy that this man endured for the people who didn’t care about him. Anthony Richardson won’t be the same case because he doesn’t have the stress and expectations as much as Luck did. Plus I don’t think AR is willing to fight through injuries for the team. I don’t think Lucks story should ever be forgotten. This was the worst thing people can do to one man, trying to fight for a team. The fans booing at him for essentially saving himself from more heartbreak really makes me hate the fellow fans around me. However…. I think IF (not should have) he had decided to stay with the Colts he would’ve prospered. The O line was good and our O line now is pretty solid. He would’ve had incredible offensive weapons at his disposal. I think the words in this video ring true. Luck is the biggest “What if?” In NFL history

I wish I had a TRAGIC Story like Andrew Luck's.
He’s worth about $200 million, has a masters degree from Stanford, has a wife and family, and left the game before life debilitating injuries; all before the age of 40. I’d be ok to live such a “tragic” life.
I remember that first matchup with Denver and Peyton Manning. It was an epic struggle and Indy got the win, but I remember Luck taking way too many hits. I think he was out for a few games after with a lacerated Kidney. That was only the beginning of his career. So Luck beat Manning, but Manning played every game that season and Luck didn't.
That wasnt first matchup we played them in 2013

Luck did the right thing by retiring . He played football since he was a child . All that contact and hits takes a toll on a player . And being a qb all his life takes a toll on your arm . If he played longer he could have been seriously physically and neurologically damaged permanently, like for example Steelers 19 year center Mike Webster, RB Earl Campbell and others . Brett Favre went as far as telling kids don't play football if you like other sports , and for your life long recreation, and thinking ability, and for your family, friends and your own sakes
Webster and Campbell weren't qbs, and therefore no one cares about their health

I grew up in Houston and went to Stratford high school. Craig James also went to Stratford. They were kick ass high school football players for sure.
Never got to fulfill his potential as a QB, but he's a success as a human being.
A lot of people don't realize that Andrew Luck's combine numbers, although they weren't as good as RG3's, they were comparable to Cam Newton's who was drafted the year before!!!
Nothing tragic about making over $100MILLION in a few years and leaving the game with your mind & body intact.... Not to mention all the money he made from endorsements, a degree from Stanford, great friends & family.... I say thats a MASSIVE.... MASSIVE success story

This is ridiculous. Andrew Luck was able to keep $25 million dollars when he retired instead of returning it as part of the contract. The owner was so rich he allowed him to keep it. I have no tears for him, you shouldnt either.

We should've been talking about how great Andrew Luck's career was. How many Super Bowls he won on his way to the HoF... instead we are talking about how much the Colts organization failed him and took all that away from him.

Luck went to Stanford for a reason - intelligence. He was smart enough to see that wouldn't last long in the NFL if he stayed longer on a team with an offensive line that could never give him the protection he needed. He always had a mediocre offensive line and the punishment just wasn't worth it.
In 2023, Luck began serving as a part-time volunteer coach at nearby Palo Alto High School, working with the school's junior varsity team.

as a former Colts fan that doesn’t follow football anymore this guy was the guy. i knew him, i watched him and grew up with him. i’ll always remember what he did for the Colts.
People tend to forget football is a job for these players. A job that supports themselves and their families. If you got injured every time you worked, risk losing it all or becoming immobile, wouldn’t you want to leave as well?
A lesson for the league for sure.

As a longtime Bronco fan, I was shocked to find out Russell Wilson threw 35 touchdown passes for them in 2018 (14:02). Traded away all those draft picks for him last year was even dumber than I thought.

The front office that did not draft any help for the O-line three seasons in a row(and let one 2nd rounder get away) is complicit with the owner for causing the ruin of perhaps the best quarterback ever, and of a deserving one. Colt's fans, for booing him and not collectively pressuring the team to get some protection for him, they are as lame as it gets and don't deserve a team .

Indianapolis decided not to recoup the $24.8 million they potentially could’ve received from Luck. One good thing the management did for screwing him over.
The Colts drafted 3 of the highest rated QB prospects in history (Elway, Manning, Luck). At least they got 1 super bowl win out of them.
