A direct express line, light or heavy rail, between LAX and Union Station will be the best idea.
Totally agree, Philadelphia, Denver,Portland,Seattle did it & it works. Amtrak has stations at Newark Liberty International Airport, Baltimore Thurgood Marshall Airport, Milwaukee Mitchell Airport. The DART rail that serves the Dallas-Forth Worth Airport has their Orange Line going right into DFW Airport and a Green Line station at Dallas Love Airport.
They should create a new Metrolink commuter rail line called the LAX Line. Completely electrified, runs every half hour on a 24/7 schedule, and goes to an underground station in the middle of the airport, with direct connections to all terminals.
Sometimes I wonder what LACMTA were thinking when they were developing some of their lines. The Green Line should have ALWAYS ended at LAX. WHY build a station a few blocks from the Airport when common sense would be to have it extend those few extra miles into the airport. Same thing with the Gold Line. It's a shame that the Gold Line runs that close to Dodger Stadium, yet, there is no station there. Imagine how much easier it would be to get to a Dodger game on light rail instead of the bus!
Politics and how the Green Line's build cost tripled.
The Green Line bypasses LAX for a number of reasons.
#1: The only money in the budget for the Green Line was to build it elevated. However, LAX officials and the Federal Aviation Administration said no to an LAX station because the train’s overhead wires might interfere with planes’ landing paths.
#2: Powerful business owners in the Redondo Beach area paid the politicians a ton just to bring the Green Line to their city instead of LAX. Politicians always respond to the bigger bribe.
And still the Crenshaw/LAX line doesn't go to LAX
@@mrrobot5963 It won't when the Crenshaw line opens next year but that's because the airport's automated people mover won't be ready to open until 2023. The automated people mover is under the airport's control rather than Metro's so they just have to wait even though the Metro station will have already been built.
@@davidnissim9203 The green is still a waste of a line compared to other metro lines
World Class City ,Los Angeles is by far! Been around the world and every corner of this planet knows L.A. and loves L.A :)
@yumifukuzawa1 the reason that the Green Line was originally built the plan was to have it go to LAX but the taxi unions fought against that idea and won
When the green line was being built, it should & ought to have gone right into LAX and to the Norwalk,CA Metrolink lime in the very first place. In 1978 SEPTA, the City of Philadelphia partnered together to build a Commuted Rail Line right into Philadelphia International Airport, and it opened in 1979 during the second Phoney gar crunch. There’s commuter rail that goes from Denver Union Station right into the Denver International Aurport.
Just connect to LA Union Station! I can then take the metro link and connect in downtown to go to the airport! The SFO system is a perfect example,
We have light rail access at Portland International Airport. The MAX red line begins at the airport right by baggage claim, to Downtown Portland and to Beaverton with a stop at Washington Park (Oregon Zoo).
Oh yeah? In San Francisco, where I’m from, our rail system (a metro called BART) actually begins right inside one of our terminals. It’s located adjacent to the check-in counters of our busiest terminal. Takes you downtown in about 20 minutes
@@davidnissim9203 Similar arrangement with CTA Blue line at O'Hare and RTA Red Line in Cleveland.
People don't seem to be aware that a direct bus called Flyaway runs from Union Station-LAX or Hollywood-LAX or Van Nuys-LAX or Westwood-LAX or Santa Monica-LAX or Long Beach-LAX. Starts as early as 5am or as late as 11:30PM. Stops at check in or departures at all 6 terminals.

FlyAway sucks. LAX needs a rail connection
The issue with FlyAway is that it's still a bus subject to traffic on the freeways. A light rail line can partially or fully bypass it for faster, more reliable service.
we need a train right to the terminal. no shuttles, no last mile problem, no excuses.
DCs Metro subway to National Airport is a jewel..its about time LA...👍🚞🚝
I have used public transit to, from and in airports in the US and Israel. I have to admit that LAX is not my favorite airport to travel to, from and inside. A rail link to and through LAX is many years overdue. I am amazed that Metro did not build a rail link to LAX first.
I think Metro should make a Green line extension up to Downtown Santa Monica where the Expo line also ends. The Crenshaw line should take the Redondo beach leg of the Green line, so you get a one seat ride from Hollywood/Highland all the way too South Bay/Torrance. The Sepulveda light rail line that will go eventually from Lax to Sylmar should also go also down the Redondo beach leg with the Crenshaw line. So you have 3 lines at Lax: Green Line Santa Monica- Norwalk/Santa Fe
Crenshaw line Hollywood-South Bay
Sepulveda line: Sylmar-South Bay
miss LA
Come on NJ Transit you should connect the Atlantic City Line to the ACY airport and this will relieve conestion on the ACE, but Ewr should have Acela and NJT Arrow III emus having their own station Under Ewr terminal C. I think NJ Transit should follow LA metro for an Airport Rail link.
I think it's kinda strange that your only 24-hour transit is bus-based. I'm from Chicago, and we have at least two rail lines that offer 24-hour service, and we don't have anywhere near the nightlife as LA does.
Truth! I'm from Chicago also, and transportation sucks here in LA
24-hour service on Metro might happen if they can purchase extra trains and increase service frequency.
First time overseas, landing at LAX after a 14 hour flight at 6:30am and I just wanna get to my hotel. The bus is the only option for me, I don't wanna switch 3 times.
I mean it's about time.
I once took the METRO to LAX and had to change trains in a - to say it politically correct - rather challenging neighborhood. When you have all your luggage with you, going on an international flight, that isn't the most ideal situation.
So what is my vision?! BEING ABLE TO GET TO LAX DIRECTLY!
This comment was posted before the Crenshaw/LAX Line was even planned, meaning you must’ve had to change trains at the Willowbrook Station, which, yes, is in gang-ridden South Central. The Crenshaw/LAX Line will require you to transfer to the Gold Line at Expo/Crenshaw, about 10 minutes from 7th Street/Metro Center.
Don’t worry about having to go to Willowbrook again.
Eleven years later and still no line that takes you directly into LAX.
The Crenshaw line will be finished in two years but what about the automated people mover and consolidated rental-car facility. SeaTac Airport has both of those things and a light rail station.
That was just announced - the official video is on the LAX CZcams Channel!
People mover opens 2023
From Canada...
This remoinds me of Lester Pearson (YYZ) in Toronto.sometimes I say (having lived in Toronto in my time), Toronto's the cith you drive 50 miles for a quart of Milk! it's very spread out.
However that driving is not necessary. they now havwe a rail (the UP express) which covers the disatance from the airport to Union station (intercity rail). This saves a lot. Normally iut would take you some 45 minutes to drive downtown, never mind many places much longer.
You can find lots of videos about Toronto (and Montreal where I now live) as well on You Tube.
So why not L.A. this seems an indispensible idea!
people mover takes u out of the airport to a lot like lot c where private and public busses and cabs are waiting then its easy to hit the fwys or main streets
LA is a mess.
I'm not sure why an LAX transit was an afterthought to begin with.
Because it’s busy as hell (5th in the world). Also, no one likes driving in LA.
I don't understand either...A people mover to the nearest station would make the ride to downtown LA soooo much better. I waited 40mins for the damn bus to Union. Unacceptable for such a metropolis.
@@DavidHaTzadik You do have a free shuttle to the free Green Line station. And they are building a people mover to connect to the new Crenshaw line… to be completed 3 years after the line opens.
just let it happen, we so need it
you guys should discuss these issues at their board meetings.
LACMTA should do that right now.
Ich Lieb das Metro! :-)
Just do it! extend the metro a little bit closer to the airport then have a people mover that connects to all the terminals!
It's coming up on 8 months since this video was posted. Anyone know if Metro has any clue as to what (if anything) they plan on doing?
yea and get those cabs and busses to an off site lot that would clear up a lot of room for auto unloading and loading
I had to self-propell my manual. Wheelchair To the terminal entrance at the airport from the nearest bus stop, , uphill , backwards on the shoulder of the road going to the terminal entrance.
this was so true but now with smart phone its so easy
The answer is painfully obvious. Turn the Green Line north at its western terminus, take it under the airport in a horseshoe fashion. If there is additional funding, then move north towards Santa Monica, or northeast towards downtown L.A.
Top 5 best public-transit accessible airports in the US:
#5: Philadelphia International
Each terminal has a SEPTA commuter rail station.
#4: Denver International
A commuter rail station located inside the terminal... nuff said.
#3: San Francisco International
A direct subway connection to downtown located INSIDE ONE OF THE TERMINALS NEXT TO THE CHECK-IN, and a dedicated shuttle bus to a nearby Caltrain commuter rail station.
#2: Chicago O’Hare
A direct subway connection, located underneath the rental car center, connected by a people mover that will also connect to a nearby Metra commuter rail station.
#1: New York JFK
A people mover connecting the terminals to two nearby LIRR/subway stations
Worst public transit accessible:
#5: Chicago Midway
Does have a rail connection (Orange Line Of the Chicago L) and is significantly further from the Loop than O’Hare (Orange Line also takes longer than the Blue Line does from O’Hare)
#4: Dallas/Fort Worth
Only accessible rail is light rail which takes longer to get to downtown, while their commuter rail is faster, it is only accessible by bus and doesn’t run as frequently.
#3: Las Vegas McCarran
No rail connections, is rather close to downtown.
#2: LAX
Nearest light rail station is almost a mile away, only accessible by bus. Cruelest part is that the light rail parallels the airport property.
#1: New York LaGuardia
No rail connections of any kind, way too far from Manhattan, passengers are forced to take cabs or slow buses.
I hope one day I can go inside this airport.
look at the Heathrow Express. Do that.
try getting around nY,especially,in winter,and snow.not fun.!
Why don't you guys establish a new Metrolink line from Union Station to LAX using the Harbor Subdivision. This would provide fast, direct service and is far more convenient for air travelers. The last thing we want to do is to have to take the Red Line to the Blue Line to the Green Line...WITH LUGGAGE. Do it right, or don't do it at all! Especially since the taxpayers are footing the bill...
cahsr2011 The Harbor Subdivision is abandoned and Metro is using half of the Harbor Subdivision for the Crenshaw LAX line. A line going down Crenshaw BLVD and will connect to the airport !

Chicago O Hare was really convenient...
+Brandon Hu any airport is better than LAX for getting to the city - well, maybe except McCarran (Vegas) and La Guardia
:) way more convenient
Look at Airtrain in New York and New Jersey
You know, i think a good first step would be to put a large sign at each terminal that says
G SHUTTLE TO METRO STATION
Nope, still working on the gold and expo lines.. >:I
This is reminds me of watching an Apple "promotional" video.

@phillyslasher I live in SOCAL all my life its not what you think of Los Angeles . I been there very recently a small pocket of La is nice but 89% of the city is like Mexico.
Is it really convenient? I disagree
Mexico city is the 8 riches city in the world and the city of los angeles is the 3 riches per wikipedia and its getting richer because of multiculturism
The metro still not going to do it right. There thinking of a people mover and still your going to have to switch two or three time just to get to downtown LA. It should just one direct way.
FlyAway bus?
People mover to Aviation/96th Station, Crenshaw/LAX Line to Expo/Crenshaw, Gold Line to downtown.
Still quicker and cheaper than the freeways.
The reason this project is stalled is because the long-term parking lot operators are lobbying and making legal headaches for Metro because they don't want to lose revenue. Public transit = less people driving and parking. They are making Metro jump through dozens of legal hoops and it's dragging things down.
They’re gonna have to accept that people in LA would rather take the train than drive. They seem to think the same way LA politicians do: try and desperately promote car travel and stop train expansion because Metro is stealing their customers.

With the hyper loop it all will be obsolete. Shut it all down and save our money!
@XxSYST3M182xX
Gta 5 metro
Metro sucks!
Than...drive!!
