"Billie Jean" Sugarfoot DRUM CAM - HIStory Tour

- Note: I was the only performer on stage Michael ever gave permission to film using an “iso camera” - which allowed me to capture my drumming during the HIStory Tour. I was blessed he allowed me to do this!!…Some parts came out a bit out of focus due to the smoke from the stage and vibrations....I apologize for this!!…I will continuously post more footage. #HistoryTourDrumSeries

I trust your beat more than my metronome.
true !!! lol
He's playing with a click, so it's basically your metronome.
I don't think they used a click.
@@YanniDep He has an earpiece going to his right ear, and if you use the app BPM live, you'll see that the tempo stays at 114 BPM for 7 minutes straight. It's not impossible for a drummer with Jonathan Moffet's credentials to keep perfect time, but I find it unlikely for him to pull it off for 7 minutes.
@@biodrummindieseler I'm a drummer too, and I used my tempo app. He didn't stay consistent throughout the whole song. Which is no big deal. No one is perfect. And the earpiece has nothing to do with him using a click or not. They could simply be his monitors.
Imagine sitting on that drum chair, eyes on the crowd and eyes on Michael doing the moonwalk while you're trying to hold your speed playing the kick, snare and the hats. That's a really difficult moment to get over with, but this guy, this guy's got it
His FOCUS is incredible!
He's probably seen it a million times. He would not be distracted by it
It's really not if you're an experienced drummer
@@johnnyhurley7161 as I said, this guy's got it
Jonathan has said that Michael was his dance partner he was just dancing along with him
I just wonder the pressure these musicians were going through during those days. Playing LIVE for the most famous artist in the world.
no pressure, all grind. doing their thang.
There is no pressure when you are a pro... you can be nervous, yes, like when you have a meeting with your boss or when doing a powerpoint presentation... but there is no pressure when you are a pro and you know your stuff...
You mean howmuch fun they were having? Im sure there were nerves but more of it would have been fun!
in front of thousends of people
When you rehearse and do your homework you're good
He’s called “Sugarfoot” because that shit sounds sweet!
Kid friendly hater right here
7:45 This is why MJ need this guy on the tour.
Dumpty Humpty Totally!
And he needed a drummer in general
That timing wtf.
That's fucking troo
MJ’s dance partner
8:13 OMG, you can perfectly see MJ performing the Moonwalk! And the top of the hat passing by, Lol, that's amazing!
We miss you Michael...
And congratulations Jonathan, thank you for all your amazing work, bringing energy to the shows of our eternal King of Pop.
I can see MJ dancing perfectly in my minds eye when I hear this!!
Oh yeah 😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Moonwalk from 8:13 to 8:16
Perfect, these beats reminds every dance step by Mj.
Same
Same here
The most famous beat ever... I am into heavy/thrash/... metal but Michael Jackson will always be respected and revered for his music!!!
The late Ndugu Chandler was the drummer who laid down this track. Great pocket and studio drummer.
Micheal was such an inspiration to me now I just do the heee woo moonwalk and then do it agian
Let’s be honest, most of his songs translate into hard rock/metal very well. I’m a metal head too and I’m always impressed at how certain pop artists are just some double kick and distortion away from some heavy hits.
Michael stole the bass line fromthe Hall and Oates song " I can't go for that". Daryl Hall said that when he saw Michael at the gathering for "We are the World" song that Michael apologized to him for it. Do the research
Rick Jones but MJ took that to another level! Like hall and oates beat on steroids... much more aggressive...
I was blessed enough to see Michael preform live, twice! The first time was the Dangerous Tour in 1992 Stockholm, Sweden. The second time was the HIStory Tour in 1997 Göteborg, Sweden. I believe one of the strongest elements that can be heard is the drums. And Michael dances and moves to that specific frequency. And much of Michael´s performance is thanks to Jonathan´s magic.Thank you Jonathan, you are truly an amazing drummer. Wherever you are, i send you love, peace and blessings.
Wow bro! You are lucky!
Bro... where you actually there?
You're so lucky.
amazing!
For the Dangerous Tour the drummer was Ricky Lawson.
NASA ..We spent 25 million dollars on a timekeeping machine perfect to one nanosecond...
Jonathan...Hold my beer and watch this...
Legend says that scientists have spent 20 years and over 1,5 billion dollars trying to create a time keeping device as precise as Sugarfoot. They gave up when they reached Planck time.
Not only is he super consistent, on time and professional but he is also hitting hard as fuck! Every snare hit is the same sounding shotgun noise and it's powerful.
You gotta hear these drums from the audience track from the munich show multitracks
Kudos goes to the live mixer at FOH as well.. if you notice he intensifies it and adds decay at the right moment .. its all team work 🔥
@@daquavioushornswoggledilly1553bro wtf the estate don’t want people to use em wtf multitracks bro he ain’t even gonna be able to set them up right
8:15 The moment the beam of light aproaches as he moonwalks and the audience goes crazy.
yup
You would have seen 100's of drum cam videos with lot many fills, faster double bass and what not. But this has a legend trusting this man's beats and dancing his heart out. This is no normal drum cam.
There is Michael Jackon dancing right infront of him.
I love how stable his hands are. Imagine performing with such precision with all d pressure and MJ dancing to ur beat.
Hats off to u Sir!
"Everyone makes mistakes live. I make mistakes. The bass makes mistakes. The guitar makes mistakes. Sugarfoot's always perfect." - Michael Jackson
Unlike 95% of drummers nowadays who love 2 CONSTANTLY overplay by displaying their speed and chops and seemingly compete against 1 another; Mr. Moffett on the other hand, just loves 2 keep the groove going. (And does it QUITE WELL) 😉👍🥁 Thank U Sir!
I TOTALLY agree with you im a drummer & i just keep it tight 🥁👍🏾
I could care less for fills and what not. This man does drumming right
He's just serving the music :)
So many drummers are relying on all technique and no feel to be impressive. And some of them really are, don't get me wrong. But drummers like Moffett are on a whole other level.
And you better believe this man got chops to make a karate master run away.
Imagine the pressure to not fuck up while Michael Jackson is doing the most epic moves in history and it all depends on you to not go off beat mess his routine up.. I think they were so good together because they were connected with each other, once they go live it's like they are lost in the moment you can see it in both, the become the music, i heard Sugarfoot speaking of the connection all the musicians had with michael, it was spiritual the way he put it
Look how Jonathan 5:25 doesn't miss that mythical moment of Michael's moonwalk; In almost the entire video he sees his battery, but there it is unmissable. amazing
I really admired MJ for choosing the best people who can perform with perfection
7:46 I can listen to this beat all day
Same
Just checked and he somehow just stays consistent on 114.5 bpm for the whole video, this is just insanely impressive
the tempo is not consistent actually, the HIStory Tour used original Billie Jean multitracks and the tempo hovers around 114 bpm but fluctuates slightly, it just makes it more incredible that he is able to keep up with the subtle changes. I remade most of the song in FL Studio but sadly found out it doesn't tempo-map the beats to change tempo accordingly like other similar programs.
That spotlight @8:14 gives me goosebumps.
Iv'e seen Michael Jackson twice , once on the Dangerous Tour and again in History Tour , Both in Dublin Ireland
What do you think about the Michael's Show?
Lucky asf!!
God ur lucky how where the shows
Rajeev R Go see Metallica concerts...
Your so lucky dude.
8:14 the light following Michael... idk why but that makes me have goosebumps
Sugarfoot explains many things in his interviews. He said when he plays for MJ it must precise or how MJ wants the drums played. That is how MJ wants the drums to be played for his songs. So, yeh, no fills. Sugarfoot also said that he played for Elton John where Elton gave him the liberty to improvise or play how he wants to play. This man is a working and employed musician because he gives what top musicians want!
I'm probably not the first or the last to say that but this is pure gold. This type of content should be forever preserved. This is History
It’s why the world tour was named HIStory 😜✨
Sugar foot can keep better time than a ROLEX ,, phenomenal drummer Legend 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Imagine sitting back there on stage with one of the greatest performers in the history of mankind?😳😱 Holy shit. Absolute confidence and belief beyond most can imagine or comprehend.
It takes total discipline to play as solid and amazing as this.
I watched your Drumeo lesson and it is obvious why Michael picked you as his drummer.....Total musicality,.humility and amazing spirit.
It is a pleasure to watch and listen to you and I have watched that Drumeo lesson many times since you appeared.
Thanks for the inspiration :)
Came there too. He's incredible! They both belong to the music!
I have watched and listened to Jonathan Moffet on Drumeo many times. He exudes kindness, confidence, and professionalism, and keeps the music focused as though it were on a steel rail. It shows how much respect MJ had that he played solo several minutes of straight 2/4 in the middle of "Billie Jean." Pure drumming.
Its crazy knowing Jackson is just beyond the drum kit!
Sugar Foot has the best seat in the house. He plays through Michael's Body movement. Soul to soul!
That beat! So simple - so satisfying.
He’s really in flow with Michaels energy.. he’s a focused man
1:49 - Start Up of Billie Jean
SugarFoot is siiiiick!
I could watch him for hours.
Nails each note!
Gifted..
Sick is good?
Que honor se sentirá haber sido el drummer del mejor cantante de la historia 😮😮
😨😨😨
In my mind . Billie jean part hit really hard where how the music evolved from his music video to legendary stage performance. That snare is like a shot gun shot to my heart
Imagine how disciplined and humble you have to be on a gig like Michael Jackson. And that was seriously the tightest drumming I've ever heard. Calm, focused, and musical= Sugarfoot!
this guy is on fire look at hands and percussion it exactly match the music and keyboards and vocals keep up the good work sugarfoot your so lucky to be michael's drummer
You've been watching Michael all the way behind.... I'm moved to tears.
Even watching this, I can feel the energy and hype that was about to happen, as Michael gets ready for the song. I felt a thrill in my chest when I heard the sounds and the excitement from the crowd. That was quite an experience.
That’s what they call the pocket folks. The groove. Beautiful
He is the heartbeat of the concert. Awesome responsibility.
For those interested - it was a tour in the city of Durban, 1997.
Beautiful singer n drummer connection! MJ felt that roll by Moffet at 6.09.
@6:09
MAESTRO!!!!
Very grateful Jonathan, I've been a drummer for 6 years and I've always been inspired by you, now checking everything so closely I can capture the magic even more.
Sugarfoot, The Heartbeat of Michael Jackson.
This guy (and several others) had the opportunity to play in one of the most iconic concerts in the world. Purely amazing.
Sounds like Michael is constructing the stage during the first 1 minute 50 sec of the video lol
I think it's when he walked out with a case carrying his hat and glove and then puts them on
Stephen Nagy It is, i was on the history world tour, he had glove, jacket and fedora in the case. Your ‘’construction’’ sound is michael’s footsteps while walking to a small table/bench, search history world tour billie Jean live in Munch and you can see it.
r/woosh
@@roarbhmer5338 why r his footsteps so loud tho ?
@@ramiqudimat To me, I think the magic begins by his famous steps.
Or it's part of the script.
2019!!! Imagina marcar o passo do Rei do Pop!! Que responsabilidade!!!parabéns!!!
Keila Melo se pudesse curtir esse comentário seu 1000 vezes, eu curtia
This is magical...you were literally dancing with Michael!! There are moments where it seems like you both were having a musical conversation...especially at the end with those ad libs from both MJ and you with those accents.
You have experienced something perhaps no one else on the planet has ever experienced...a true bond with the greatest entertainer of all time. Amazing
This is a thrill to watch this....I feel like I’m there in person.
Love the sound of the snare
SIMPLEMENTE CON SER EL BATERISTA DE MICHAEL JACKSON LO Hace el mejor del mundo, larga vida sugarfoot!! AMAZING!!!
That snare drum sounding like a gun shot in the chorus. awesome.
It's actually an electric drum kit, you can see him hit the sides to activate it.
@@omegavladosovich6757 that explains it, I always wanted to know how MJ's drummers captured that specific sound for the snare
He knew what the assignment was and he delivered.
8:12 gives me chills!!!
Omg yes, it’s like some supernatural activity is happening
@@fatatouille6177 pure energy
That famous moonwalk
Nossa que orgulho desse cara mostrar um arquivo pessoal desse, câmera nem focava direito... Mais ele tocava pra nada mais nada menos que Michael Jackson! Parabéns 👏👏
🤔🤔
If you gonna be a dancing entertainer like Mike was, then this is the guy you need to provide those fresh beats. You are awesome Sugarfoot.
It was said Michael gave the name Sugerfoot to him.. and his appreciation makes me so happy..🙉
What an incredible feeling it must be to play for so many people.
Wow. It would have been a huge pressure to play for the King of Pop but then again thats the reason why he picked you, very disciplined and passionate about your side of the music.
I just found out about sugarfoot two days ago. He's my hero now.
05:30 Jonathan - "Eu tenho que ver esse moonwalk"
Ķkkkk voltou pra v novamente né vey. Muito foda

Mr Moffett- I am blown away at your skills and attention to details. You my Friend are a living legend!
You're the man Jonathan. Michael loved you so much, thank you for sharing this video.
That high hat has a really sharp cutting sound which I have never heard before...
Muzalli Sam doesn't it sound beautiful
It does
All you gotta do is open hi-hat, hit it and close it real quick
Zildjian A Custom and Mastersound hats give that nasty cut sound. I used to use Mastersounds and the bottom hat was rippled to let air out. Expensive but amazing hats!!🤘
Lol look closely at one of the cymbals at the bottom of the screen at 5:33. U can just see the top of Michael's head as he's moonwalking.
at 8:14 again - gave me chills!!!!

That snare sound on those flams 😍
It’s cool MJ gave you permission to do this, it gives us all another perspective of the show. You have no idea how blessed you’re to have been able to play for such a legend. I would have killed to be able to just sit at the back of the stage during the show, that would have been awesome.

Michael Jackson ❤️❤️👍😘😭
Definitely the happiest musician in the world.. No doubt
This rhythm took me to church. It made me feel so good 👍 its the foot bass
beats are perfect with perfect strokes and tempos.
The anticipation of the beat coming in is crazy! 😆 I love it!
That's remarkable.. Thanks for giving us all the beats behind the voice. We really appreciate your contribution to this era..
