Just a few notes on this video as there is some incorrect workflow here.
    1. At 8 minutes 30 seconds approx - it tells users to "fix" an issue with some transparency with the material that shouldn't be there. This is not the correct workflow unless you want extra work in Second Life.
Instead you need to make sure your material is correctly set up in Substance Painter. Some default materials default to having an opacity channel you do not need in Second Life unless it's something transparent like glass.
    In Adobe (Substance) Painter:
    1. To default to Opaque you can change the material in Substance Painter.
    2. To fix materials in Substance Painter for non transparent materials (e.g. non glass) exports for GLB, go to the material you have applied and Texture Set, Channels and delete the Opacity Channel. You can save your material so you only do once. Examples like Steel have an opacity channel in the default package.
    3. Then export textures using Gitf PBR Metal roughness and the default will be set as Opaque correctly on applying the PBR material in Second Life.

PBR materials CAN be done completely within Blender. Please show us the recommended node setup and workflow - there’s more than one possible way to do it, and very little official info.

Blender is almost made for Second Life with a settings already included for mesh and avatar export in DAE format, but prims inside Second Life is still a great build option and a good way to learn how to build in 3D and to think in 3D, it is almost as you miss that simplicity of prim building within Blender. But PBR material will be great and even better that they can be sold in a simple to use format, and the format Linden Lab did go for have even open up for future development of Second Life.
Great video and I hope you also can make something about the new SL avatar and how it can be used as a good beginner base for avatar customization.

  • @DarnHyena
    @DarnHyena Před 2 měsíci

I just wanna add my own two cents at this point. 3:13
You don't -need- it to be 1024.
Not everything needs to be that big. A resolution of 512 is plenty enough space for small decorative items like that coffee table they used for the example.
Larger textures are better saved for things like a full bodied avatar or structures and large vehicles.
But it can also depend on how you have the UV's set up for each item. If you have the UV's split up, then you could get away with smaller resolutions for each part.
Personally for me I kind of go by a mix of the models importance and size. Though it can also depend on the kind of detail you want to do.
Like say for a simple backpack, 256x would be good enough, however if you wanted to give it a lot of patterns or decals of some sort, 256x might be a bit cramped and produce blurry results, in which case 512 will be the better option.
The arrangement and size of the UV chunks as well can play an important role in how much detail space you have. Unimportant parts of a model, such as spots that are normally hidden from view most of the time, can have their half of the UV shrunken down so there's more space for the others. And going back to the example of a bag, the part of it you want to put the most detail on can have it's UV chunk given the most space you can squeeze out.

Hi, will there be AO factor? a bit weird when creating ORM maps and cant set the AO factor while AO is needed on channel R (otherwise the object will be way to dark) the AO looks weird for instance like stones, there is not much AO needed for that and yes make AO map darker, but that will be a lot work and testing for nothing when there is factor setting for that also...., and will SL ever go to at least 2k? 1k with PBR looks awesome and better and all but for large meshes it will be always fuzzy/blocky in 1k, just in case talking about the factor in the editing material offcoursse ^^

Out of curiosity - is there a reason that you work in the ACES colorspace over Linear? It looks better on screen, sure, but from what my little research can tell, Substance doesn't export that tonemapping without a TON of extra setup. Just wondering what your reasoning is for using it without completely following that color profile pipeline.
