I like the Brits' QE class double-island, just because it's two. The French Charles de Gaulle island looks cool too even though it's a bit more complicated and less stealthy than the Fujian's. The Chinese have some good-looking ships, though... especially their Renhai-class (Type 055) cruisers. Sleek and futuristic, and packing a heavy punch.

The USN on the other hand, doesn't really have a consistent design language between carriers, Ticos and Burkes. It's like every ship was designed by a different team.

It would be even better if the catapults worked, but they don't. So that is why you don't see planes on the flight deck.
Congrats to the PLAN and Chinese government, leadership and people. Truly a very beautiful ship. Now the hard work begins training the crew and standing up the air wing (but the the experience from the two existing carriers should make that relatively problem free).

It's not actually sailing at full speed
In addition, it is actually all-electric propulsion. Multiple turbine engines are only used to generate electricity and drive motor propulsion, and it uses direct current, not alternating current.
Nobody is going to test the limit at the first sea trial. Have to say it was smooth, balanced and fast cruising.
@@What-pt9uq In additiion to the diesel engines for recharing the IEP (Integrated Electric Propulsion), I wonder if they could ever make the entire deck a giant solar panel and also have pop up wind turbines on the sides to help charge the batteries. I guess the wind turbines would look kind of funny and it's not practical to design a tough enough deck for planes to land on and still have solar panels underneath a transparent surface. The IEP is a transition technology. Nuclear power is still the best way to go.

The naming convention of the Chinese Navy has a reason. Aircraft carriers and quasi carriers are named after provinces, for example, the Fujian ship is named after Fujian Province, and the Liaoning ship is named after Liaoning Province. Destroyers and frigates use the names of cities, for example, the Type 055 Nanchang ship is named after Nanchang City, and the Lhasa ship is named after Lhasa City.

@@williamho1976 All the crews on US carriers are young people who don't have any experience in combat with a peer competitor. The last few times US carriers were in "combat" was when they were dropping bombs on goat herders with and without AK-7's in Afghanistan. The only US navy personnel who went up against a peer competitor was against against the Japanese in WWII over 75 years ago and they are mostly dead. Vietnam was not a peer competitor and yet the USA lost and those navy personnel are either retired or dead. Essentially any conflict between the PLAN and the US Navy is between two combat inexperienced navies. Modern naval battles will be a missile battle as they will never come in contact with each other. 18 out 18 war simulations in regards to a conflict in the SCS done by US think tanks have the US Navy losing every one. Let that sink in.
