- Most of their counselors had little to no training in therapy or psychology (and they may have used AI at one point?)
- They sold private data about users' mental health to advertisers, but told users that this data would only be shared with their counselor.
Both of these things might have been fixed by now, but the company is extremely untrustworthy and it is likely something else will happen
@@gustavoguerrero5002 aside from the data selling, they also have unfair pricing, promoted/advertised things that did not match their TOS, and breached doctor-patient confidently multiple times. the controversies section on their wikipedia page covers it in good detail

Ah yes, the "personal"(0:18) part of the video...add reads. I guess the wording is part of the script that has to be followed, it is repulsive. Like "aren't we friends? Let's talk about something personal...money, how you can give it to me and why that'll make you happy :) :) :) ". Add reads are part of the job and i guess we are all used to them, but that wording; I feel icky.
Otherwise a fun video, i really enjoyed it.

I've heard that a lot of people made contracts with betterhelp before the info came to light but they can't just break the contracts and are obligued to make the sponsorships... I don't know if this is the case.

also placing the blame on vulnerable people seeking mental healthcare is ridiculous. any company or organization claiming to work in healthcare of any kind absolutely needs to be held to the highest standards and regulations. they’re not selling some shitty gimmick product or a mobile game, these are people’s lives at stake.

Lets victim blame emotionally vulnerable people for trusting companies that claim to have actual therapy, or trusting influencers (people who literally have a job that involves influencing people) who promote said company, and honestly the fact that they didnt exhaust even more of their very limited energy to do actual research makes them even more dumb! Is what I would say, if I were as low as you for victim blaming...
Yknow the fact that the people who were victims of betterhelp even decided to get help was a huge step. You have obviously never had something like depression or severe anxiety. Oh and also "you don't see people getting mad at Mr beast or Anthony Padilla", wow just because someone doesn't face constant and public backlash from their entire community its fine to promote a fraudulent mental health company? But the thing is, those large creators DO face backlash, its just that because most of their audience is uneducated about the subject, too young to understand, or just dont care, the backlash gets drowned.

Sponsorships are adds. If somebody looks at the add and goes "ok" without following it up it, then that's on the person honestly.
