- This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the Image Comics character "Spawn." From Albert Francis Simmons growing up as an intelligent and strong young man from Detroit, becoming a commissioned officer in the U.S. Marines, saving the U.S. President while in the Secret Service, being promoted into a special division of the C.I.A., betrayal by his boss Jason Wynn and partner Bruce Stinson aka Chapel, making a deal with the devil and Malebolgia to come back to Earth to see his wife Wanda in exchange for becoming a Hellspawn, gaining vast superhuman strength and magical abilities from his necroplasm powered symbiotic suit named K7-Leetha, multiple conflicts with Overt-Kill, Angela, Redeemer, and Freak, to crossover comics appearances and cameos with Marvel and DC Comics characters; Let's take a look at this powerful superhero / anti-hero, and one of the most popular characters of Image Comics, as well as comic book characters in general. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic books and science fiction characters.

I love Jaime Foxx but I can't see him as Spawn. Michael Jai White will always be Spawn to me. I agree with someone that said Netflix should have an animated version of his stories.
If he gets the new movie I've heard so much about then nah no Netflix show is needed. However if they dont do the movie then HELL YEAH a Netflix show is needed. Especially once Disney rips all their Marvel content off Netflix for Disney plus or whatever they're calling their streaming service.

For real. I had the entire action figure set, including all the guns, weapons, accessories, and baddies that came with it. In fact I still own my violator figure with the interchangeable head and body parts.

Spawn: easily one of my top 5 favorites. I wish the live action movies was as good as the HBO animated series. Oh well, hope he gets a reboot, he deserves it.

dèl Păntión Stan Lee doesn't own Marvel anymore, he been sold it to Disney years ago. And you mean FOX destroys Marvel character movies like X-MEN & F4, but Disney is in the process of purchasing that whole division of FOX. I'm looking forward to seeing X-MEN done right in the MCU 😉.
Technically speaking Marvel didn't take Angela from Image it was her co-creator Neil Gaiman, when he left Image Comics he lawyered up for the rights for characters he created Angela being the main one, so when he started working for Marvel he was the one who made her Thor's sister, so Marvel just got really lucky with that one

Characters like Spawn, Haunt, Invincible, Wolfman, The Maxx, Tech Jacket, Youngblood, Savage Dragon and others make me hope for an Image Cinematic Universe or Animated Universe some day. They could totally give the DCAU or MCU a run for their money if they really tried.

Spawn sounds AWESOME, but his origin sounds very similar to that of Ghost Rider (making a deal with the Devil, going against him, things of that nature). But that's just more of a plus, because Ghost Rider is (in my opinion) one of the coolest antiheroes.

This was a great video. The only thing that was a little off was the part about the Necroplasm counter. Like Ann already commented, he overcame that. You also could've added that he is now immune to the only two ways known to previously kill him. Those are decapitation and Holy weapons. It was kinda funny when he tried to kill himself by blowing his head off with Necroplasm. haha

He's got to be a 10 not only is he the most op superhero ever but he also is the face of image comics.
A true fan remembers Al's memory was so messed up in the early books he bitched about being black when picking a human disguise. Still cracks me up now when finally realised he was before. Wish kept my books but was part of a purge and didn't know if had collected editions.
Funniest story got my first issue (number 1) at my local Gas station in walking distance from me. Surprised they carried it too. That station was United Dairy Farmers. Don't see comics at those any more.
I have 3 fav issues. The creepy ice cream man cause I loved how killed him and the message left behind. His meeting with a group of the kkk and what did to their leader, and the last where found out a child was being abused. Some great stories those were.

You know what I adore specifically about Spawn? Its not that his powers are mad OP, which they are. Its not that he is a truly tragic character that showed that not all heroes can turn their trauma into good morals, which he is. Its not even that I believe the Spawn universe most accurately captures the arrogance and disconnect between the forces of Gods/Devils, when they meddle in the affairs of man, which it most deh-hef-hefinitely does.
What I adore most about Spawn is that his entire journey is about him being twisted and jerked around by these cosmic entities that want to twist him for their personal goals, and this man, who spent the better part of 1000's of years (perspectively) being miserable, is finally able to just twist it all, until he isn't the pawn to others games anymore.
The Story is the Journey, and Spawn's Journey is perhaps the biggest homage to the power of a very stubborn human.

I first got into Spawn when I was in 3rd grade after watching the animated series, good times.
You better give spawn a 10! Lol. As a kid spawn was my shit. Everything about him is soo attractive to the mental. He’s a badass marine. Loves his beautiful wife and after being BETRAYED and dying and going to hell makes a deal to see her again. Then even as a hell spawn uses his powers for somewhat good purposes. Todd macfarlane is a genius!
