There are games that are just symbolic in sports history. This is absolutely one of them. Indy and Manning were never going to win a Super Bowl until they scaled Mt. Patriots. After all the disappointments, the tide seemed to turn with that big MNF win in 2005 but they flamed out in the playoffs against Pittsburgh. Then they beat them again to start this season 8-0, but then struggled like crazy the second half of the year. So having this game at home, after New England ironically did them a major solid upsetting that great Chargers team in San Diego...only to fall behind 21-3, it was like "there they go again". Except...this team, maybe not as talented as the 04 or 05 teams but more resilient, finally healthy (Bob Sanders) and having Adam Vinatieri...finally made the plays and got the breaks that had seemingly always gone Brady and Belichick's way. Other than the Lakers/Spurs Game 5 where Robert Horry's dagger 3 went in and popped back out in 2003, this was the most symbolic game I've ever watched where the 'gods' were finally on the other team's side. The recovered fumble for a TD, Reggie Wayne's near disaster after the catch on the GW drive...the Colts FINALLY got the breaks to break through.
Marlin's got it! We're going to the Super Bowl!

All these games are rigged holmes. Brady's career was manufactured, Manning's horse face was designed in a laboratory. I met horse face once and his bee whole smelled like dirty garbage.
Jeff Saturday should be a Hall of Famer. He was dominant in his 2006 playoff run. In 4 playoff games I never had him losing a single snap. Not a single one. He dominated Kelly Gregg, Halotti Ngata and even Vince Wilfork. One of the best players I have ever seen. At 6'2 303 lbs he used his lack of height to his advantage. From like 2002-2010 once he got his hands on you it was basicaly game over.
Love the way you described this. ^ used to play Madden and I couldn’t believe the Colts had like ten players 99 overall. 😂 Manning, Dallas Clark, Saturday, Wayne, Harrison, Freeney, Mathis, Sanders, Vinatieri … that team was so loaded. Absolutely agree that he should be a HOFer.
Thank you, I’ve been saying this for years.
I wouldn’t cal 6’2 a lack of height even for a qb but I agree with you

One of the all time greatest playoff games. This was the Super Bowl that year. The Manning/Brady rivalry really was something. Their games were always must see.
The most ironic part about this game was Peyton came back by playing Brady’s game, short passes and running the football , just taking what the defense gave him
RCA dome games hit different, that and Texas stadium
My favorite sports moments of all time are Game 6 of the 2011 World Series, Christian Watford's buzzer beater to beat Kentucky, my HS basketball team's sectional championships, and this game.
Surprisingly, this was the last time these two qbs matched up in the playoffs when manning was on the colts.
And no one knew it would be.
Sadly, yes, although they had a couple great regular season matchups in 07 and 09. 07 both teams were undefeated, and 09, the infamous "4th and 2" gamble by Belichick

Peyton had to overcome so much fluky bullshit to win this game. The Maroney fumble which somehow ends up as a NE TD. I remember every bit of this game. The greatest game I have ever seen, to this day. Years of build up, rivalry, backstory. That PATs defense was incredible, stacked from top to Bottom, same with the Colts’ offense
The 21-3 before the 28-3.
Edit: That stat @ 30:46 was tied at the 2021 AFC Championship.
Just got tied
Most people don't even realize the year this game was played was when manning took a serious neck & back injury that shortened his career as he fought it off with surgery for awhile. Look up the Washington redskins game and you'll see him get bent nearly in half backwards that ended with his helmet getting ripped off and his screaming in pain. He would of been a monster for years more without that targeted vicious hit he endured.
That was in the 2011 preseason, I thought?
that happened later in his career
@@tomney4460 Peyton didn't play in the 2011 preseason. He already had a neck surgery by that point.

One of the greatest to ever do it, shame that his prime was cut short
Bob Sanders is like, four feet tall. I heard he's in prison for beating his dog in the street with a pipe wrench after a night of hard rock smoking and hennessey drinking.
Just watching the intro for this video gets you jacked for the highlights! Miss these days of Indy!
I hear a few people complaining that Brady didn't have a good receiving corps that's pretty true here but he had a great running game and a great defense and a great special team and the best head couch ever. The following year he had a elite receiving corps with Welker and moss along with a great defense and didn't win the superbowl. He has been blessed with a great overall team most of his career. Just look at his offense last year a couple great running backs and great receivers Godwin evans gronkowski Scott Miller and a top 10 defense.
Loved watching this rivalry thanks for the memories NFL Throwback.

If I was a colts fan in that arena I would have starting sobbing when Jackson got that pick. This game alleviated YEARS of torment for Peyton and his guys.
It's interesting how back then they were wondering if Brady vs. Manning would be the next great rivalry and now we're discussing if Allen vs. Mahomes is the next rivalry.
They have a long way to go. Allen still hasn’t even gotten to the super bowl and Mahomes with all his weapons only has one.
The pass from the goat to Marlon Jackson was a thing of beauty
Epic outcome and well deserved

Wondering if Mahomes vs. Allen will take on a similar vibe with each one going through the other to reach the SB
@Fernando Guedes I just hope that Josh Allen takes the Peyton Manning role where he has a playoff record against Patrick 6-2
@Fernando GuedesExactly, and historically speaking, I am comparing Josh Allen to Peyton Manning and Steve Young because Allen could be getting the same treatment as them with statements like "he can't win the big game" and "he can't get the monkey off his back".
Won’t happen. Too much QB talent in the AFC. Those two plus Burrow,Herbert,Jones and Jackson. That’s a lot of talent right there.

exactly i always thought this loss was worse than the super bowl loss to the giants the next year. No wonder why it took 8 years to recover from this loss. Even when they sort of got their revenge on the colts in 2007 regular season for coming back from 10 in the 4th quarter, it just did not make up for the loss. Any devasting loss you suffer like this you have to win the super bowl
Colts winning was good for the NFL !
