  • Sean Dalgetty and Lauch Harrison lead a discussion and a workshop to explain Leather Block Dyeing.
This is the video of the actual discussion and a workshop. The video is long and slow. You may find here some instructions and ideas, but the main purpose of the video is to show the ideas and the friendly atmosphere of our guild rather than the concentrated set of instructions.

Little bit problem for me, because my english is really no perfect :) About sponge- does that matter, if the sponge is natural or industrial made? And leather- which part of hide is best? Is it possible to make those mottling/ marbling patterns on every part of hide or is necessary to buy something like bend ?

It's preferable to use a dry cellulose sponge. It should be hard, not soft.

Any bright vegetable tanned leather is good for block dying. Actually, the lower quality leather with its surface imperfections works better. Because block dying increases visibility of those scars and wrinkles and make that unique design on the leather.
