══════════ Official Game Summary ═════════
Starfield is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. In this next-generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.
Starfield is set in the year 2330, in a relatively small pocket of the Milky Way, in an area that extends outward from our solar system for approximately 50 light years. Around 20 years before the start of the game, the two largest factions in the Settled Systems, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective, engaged in the bloody Colony War. Today, the major factions enjoy an uneasy peace, but the Settled Systems is still pretty dangerous. There are plenty of human threats out there. Like Ecliptic mercenaries, the pirates of the Crimson Fleet, violent Spacers, or even the fanatical religious zealots of House Va'ruun.
The organization known as Constellation is committed to uncovering the mysteries of the galaxy. And as one of its newest members, you'll explore the deepest reaches of the Settled Systems and you'll find yourself at home... in the Starfield.

Small correction to Serpents Embrace at 14:56. I said jumping with your jump pack but it's actually tied to grav jumping with your ship. This is actually worse than I thought, because that would get extremally annoying when you are doing quests or anything for long periods of time outside of your ship. I made this video on Tuesday, and I didn't notice the error until I was about to post the video.
I grew up worshipping the Great Tigger. Jumping makes my power bigger.
interesting thing about the introvert and extrovert. they specify Human companions, so you can Introvert and take Vasco and still get the introvert bonus. However im only 6.7 hours in and already I am discouraged by the companion AI as I prefer stealth and i found vascco giving me away more often then not
Is it worse though? The boost is 4 hours long, so as long as you grav jump somewhere once every 4 hours you get free Health and o2
He hasn't tested it he should have tested it before speaking on it. You get a 4 hour bonus for something you will probably be doing every 2 hours plus you get some cool unique dialogue options as well.
It's a 4 hour bonus bro you need to test things and not base things on just their description you fast travel a lot when you are playing already the longest I've gone so far without grav jumping is like 3 hours.
Am I the only one who thinks FILE NOT FOUND should let you pick your own buffs?
That would defeat the purpose of literally every other one available
@@ntactime_w3488 nah it’s literally what elder scrolls allowed u to do, file not found should absolutely let u pick ur starting skills doesn’t make sense otherwise
No
Each background doesn't just cover skills, it tells about your background and also changes how you interact with the world.
Give it a few days before it becomes one of the first mods
I started off with Wanted. 10/10 Highly recommended. You get random encounters both in space and on the surface while scavenging. Extra experience killing them and extra loot. Did not regret.
Also unique dialogue during events dealing with outlaws and gangs! Akila city standoff with the Shaw Gang you can use it in your initial dialogue.
This was exactly my thought process when I chose it. I also chose the han solo background too cuz I thought it was fitting with the bounty status
Kinda trouble during outpost grinding, but with the storage “brick wall” building technique you're able to funnel them into your outpost staffer, turrets, and later, securobots…
True and combined with the bounty hunter background you can get more ships early without quests or paying just a bit of fighting
Having lost both parents in the past few years, I can see why the "parents option" would be a nice feature for some players who don't take having elders around for their wisdom and guidance for granted.
also the cool unique stuff
Also meeting your parents in the Aurora Lounge in Neon and start conversation with "Haha, you guys are so busted!" is priceless.
5:14 It's grav jumping, not regular jumping. And duration of the buff is really long, so there's really no downside as long as you jump to a different system once in a while.
In case you missed it, here is my 30 minute review of Starfield after playing 150 hours. czcams.com/video/zAbO4H16WVk/video.html
Dont pick your background based on the perks, pick based on roleplay the dialogue options are more significant than the perks since you can get all the background perks right away
unless you get skills you never intend to use. if you will get the skill at some point then all good.
@@garfnob4832 I still think the dialogue and the roleplay is more important than 1-3 out of hundreds of skill point uses even if you end up not using the skills you will enjoy having that background for conversations more than you will ever find usefulness out of a couple early game perks
@@deathmight12 but is there a hard cap on level or a soft cap (I.E. the EXP to level gets so high you all but stop leveling). it is 328 skill points to get everything but will you get anywhere close in one play through. i hope not otherwise why would i play again if i did everything in the first play through.
i saw a video where the person completed the main quest around level 30. sounds off to me. they must have skipped most or all the side stuff.
don't get me wrong i am all for role playing, but this is a video game the RP options are necessarily limited. it is not like a real RPG where you have a live DM/story teller/whatever your system calls it that can handle unexpected action. it is impossible for a program to not be on rails to some degree.
scanning gives a ton of xp. Most of the background perks are basically required and are all from the top row, like you cant even see your sneak detection or pickpocket without sneak and thief level 1. You can absolutely rush the main story and thats probably why he finished so fast
@@garfnob4832 also the background specific dialogue shows up pretty often
Character creation is a gamer's test of careful decision making, courage, and commitment. 😆
It's that last one that I always screw the granny on.
so it begins....
I said the same thing before playing the video
Alien DNA is awesome I barely notice a difference in the lack of healing... plus you get the first medic perk and it evens out
Yeah idk why he said alien DNA avoid it when it only nerfs stuff by like 1%
For me as far as traits are concerned after watching this i realized that Kid's Stuff, Wanted and Introvert are the best traits for my Cyber Runner...
went Empath instead of introvert cause i like gifts lol
@@SuperStatch Gifts? What are you talking about? Only Kid's Stuff and Hero Worshipped will get your gifts or faction related backgrounds, that give access to faction specific chests...Empath won't give you any gifts, it is annoying mechanics that will alter your followers stats based on the actions you take, which they like or don't like and you will be penalised every time you do something, they disagree with! Big huge no!…
@@Summon256yep. I'm not us3d to Bethesda games so I picked empath, raised universal and alien DNA. Wish id chosen wanted and parents or something. The chest stuff was whatever then I left the religion right after. I'm planning to spend 10000 credits to rid myself of the empath bullshit. I think I'm too far in to just start over but part of me wants to...
Serpents embrace is not tied to your boost pack, its tied to system travel, its a +25 to health and o2 for Grav jumping,. Which is what you do to trvel to new systems. Just FYI
It opens some interesting dialog options as well. I want more interaction with the VaRuun in the future. I find that faction fascinating
Surveying gives a ton of xp as you are running around. 100% not useless. Would highly recommend actually.
I consider explorer the best of all those jobs.
I've been always saying that the best part of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games was the exploration of the land, new towns and places, beautiful screenshots etc. I can't fathom how someone woud consider those useless.
Well done. You've helped cut down my character creation process with this vid.
The person who decided to give Chef the skill Scavenging has definitely worked as, or for, a chef
Surveying is the fastest way to lvl up early this guy is nuts to be sleeping on it this hard
And the entire main quest is about you being and explorer. :) I'm shocked he said that the background is useless. :) It's basically essential.
Great video, I feel like stealth and lockpicking are MUST HAVES for ES/Fallout games so I planned to do the same in Starfield. Piloting also makes sense, that's crazy it took 110 hours to get a Class C, thanks for that tip! Also the Kid Stuff trait is really funny, I might have to do that... 🤔😁
Serpents Embrace gives you 25+ oxygen and health for 4 hours everytime you GRAV jump with your ship. You are constantly jumping with your starship its an OP Skill.
@@Hmm-sh4oi not sure ill have to check that out. I just realized you didnt need to jump into your ship each time to fast travel to other planets lol 🤣🤣🤣
You also get dialogue options when you encounter The House of Va'ruun.
Great tips to avoid muddling through the character build! I have to totally agree with the Kids Stuff, Wanted, and Hero Worship perks. Those will work well with my game style.
Hero Worship is kind of a waste. Takes up a crew spot and his skills aren’t good.
This is the first game I’ve preordered in 15 years and I’m so glad I did. Bethesda did not miss with this game. There’s so much to do it’s almost overwhelming. Currently laughing in the faces of those on social media saying that I’m stupid for preordering LOL.
A dude who doesn’t know what these things do and hasn’t experienced them all yet definitively telling you what’s good and what isn’t is wild
Min maxing skills is great but the background is the interesting part giving an RPG feel and dialogue.
Note you can get rid of all traits in game. There is an npc for each one that will get rid if them for you
Is there way to get them tho, I picked the enlightened one one and it is such a bait
Also alien DNA is a must have, there are skills in the tree that will negate its negative effects. If you want a tanky person who doesnt really run out of oxygen go with alien DNA and put points into the needed skills.
Yeah I saw alien DNA with med kits is 3% but without alien DNA it's 4% which isn't much of a difference
Very helpful. Except Serpent Trait. I think the jump refers to Spaceship jumping not booster pack
Yeah it does seem so
The fact that "FILE NOT FOUND" option doesn't allow you to choose your perks bugs me beyond fucking belief. Great video! I learned more than thought I would!
Oh my god… The adoring fan even LOOKS like the original Adoring Fan!!!
Really glad i found this video before i started my play through. Great tips, Much appreciated. You got yourself a new subscriber 👍 👌
Thank you so much for this, it really helped. When I got stuck on what to choose taking a whole 2 hours to figure it out, wish I had seen you video first.
About to start my game. Great advice. I would probably lay on a similar playthrough like you did based on former Bethesda games and playthroughs how I like to play. Great advice non bias and I think from your video and others yours seems to line up more with what I needed to know and choose. Although finding out is part of playing these games sometimes when you're going to invest over a hundred hours and a game it's nice to know what to make you or playthrough most enjoyable
Thanks for this character tutorial it was very helpful. I think I will go with your suggestions on my first run through. Still waiting for the game to go live. I'm on the left coast so it's supposed to have dropped on Steam by now. Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the video!
Insane 🤣 i picked Wanted, Hero and Kid perk the ones you recommended from my first run of the game. Nailed it.
Loved the the end talking about life. I remember and loved these Tj pep talks form some of the older videos. Glade to see them back.
I went with Hero Worship because every ship captain needs their very own Dwight Schrute
finally the guide i was waiting for thank you.
Awesome video, thanks for the super helpful info.! Starting my first playthrough later (working the last few days, so I had to wait patiently, wasn't easy, believe me!!), and now I have all of that ready to go (will go with: Bounty Hunter, and then: Hero Worshipped, Extrovert to pair with that & Wanted, because I don't mind being hunted & I want the low-health buff)!! 😊
I appreciate you making this video now I know which trait to use. 😎💪🏾
Fantatsic video squire , i actually picked bounty hunter but the traits advice you gave was extremely helpful , thankyou.
This helped me out so much, subscribed!
Got me going in the right direction. Thanks
i went with combat medic. dialog with injured people makes some things easier and you dont need to use med kits on them or let them die.
Appreciate the input without spoilers. = )
I wonder if you skipped the lock picking skill, would basilistics or gastronomy be more important because you'd find so many fewer weapons and medical items?
It might make up the difference. But then you have to loot all the ingredients that you need to make food.
or skipped the lock picking skill and take crafting. make all your own gear. worked well in other Bethesda games. i do not know how hard it is to find/buy the materials.
Made my first character literally 2 hours ago and was unsure of the traits and background I ended up grabbing. Seemed I didn't do too bad of a job - Industrialist, Alien DNA, Terra Firma, and Wanted. However there were a few other traits I really wanted to grab for RP purposes but wasn't sure if it'd be a good idea in the long run. Thanks to this I think I'll remake my character and get Bounty Hunter, Wanted, Terra Firma, and...something else, not sure yet. Might stick with Alien DNA because while healing will be affected, having more oxygen may be very useful in the long run.
Literally what I went with. Bountry Hunter and wanted makes an interesting story line
Yeah, doing Alien DNA this run and not sold on it. I burn A LOT of heals. Doh. Guess I need to find a mag weapon. Lol
@@michealnelsonauthor Ah guess I dodged a bullet then. A friend of mine talked me into Adoring Fan so I switched out Alien DNA for him.
3:13 The food stuff is good for the passive buffs it gives you. like xp boost or damage resistance
I intend to be a badass Bounty Hunter, akin to a certain someone 😏
This is the way! 😎😆
This is the way!
That is the only way
And I'm about the the high space sailing scoundrel you'd be hunting 😏
Your Dad gives you a 1911. Now that's a gift.
so glad i watched this before playing, thanks
Very cool and useful vid man, keep it up
Thanks for the video, you helped me with my decision! Extrovert, Hero Worshipped, and Wanted.
I'll be Explorer with adoring fan, parents and either Wanted or Dream House...
I'm counting on you for all my Starfield news don't disappoint😅
Good job on that. Helpful. Can't wait to play Starfield.
nice run through on starting a character, thanks
Great video wish I saw this before I started but I also love finding my own path without knowing. New sub you’re great 🎉
How do we look up what we picked? I know I picked Gangster and I think Wanted to go along with it.
Serpent's Embrace isn't for the jump pack,. it's for grav jumping (fast travel)
Excellent tutorial. Thanks!!
Really appreciate the video and the lofty goal. Subscribed sir.
Your character looks like the hero from The Princess Bride. Westley.
Is there a limit on the number of bases you can have?
You mentioned you can have a home in pretty much any city. So does that mean you can come back later and perhaps purchase it?
Yes there is a limit and the outpost skill increases by 16 I think?
Great vid! I’m stuck between choosing Beast Hunter or Explorer (role playing purposes). Cant wait til the 6th
i am starting today woehoe picking my background while i write this on youtube :)
I'm 80 hours in. I have been doing nothing but base building, (I've maxed it out now) which means I spent a lot of time searching for resources, scanning planets pays well if you managed to find everything and then sell the data.
I made my character resemble Adoring Fan. My traits are adoring fan, kids stuff and wanted. I really like wanted. I haven't found AF yet and I like the parents. If you have ever played a Bethesda game you know lockpicking is a must skill.
My start was a little rough but it's getting better now that I have learned what to do.
I don't know whether I want Wanted of parents. Because overcumberance is the biggest evil of Bethesda games.
I particularly enjoy soldier because of the dialog options it opens. That's also why I put a point in medicine very early.
thx a lot for make this vid, very advisable!
I have heard the Freestar Collective gives you a lot more money for their missions and this can be huge... and that the bounty increase is not really noticed much. I have also heard that the athletics is a must as is the jetpack and pilot. Lockpicking too.
I used the explorer background only because you need Lvl 2 in the science skill to unlock the crafting skills very early. And the laser perk is really good, especially for the mining laser (u need no ammo)
great breakdown, this is always hardest part for me. decisions.....
Appreciate the tips.
Thanks for the info my man. Good stuff.
Great video man thanks!!!
Ended up here after almost an hour in character build. Wow Kid Stuff and Hero Worshipped sound better than I thought. I figured Wanted would add more fun to exploring and Taskmaster could be useful. Cyber Runner makes sense if you have to actually unlock sneak and lockpick to use them. Good stuff!
Wanted is great because it's basically free xp and materials. The bounty defenders get a little annoying though when they start stealing your kills.
@@wwm84 I prefer Taskmaster or Extrovert over Wanted. Especially with Persuasion. Wanted got annoying so I found a way to permanently remove it. Almost everytime I grav jumped the same 3 spaceship bounty hunters would be there waiting to either extort me for 2000 credits or engage in combat.
Thanks, great video, very helpful
Minor correction: Serpent's Embrace says Grav jumping not Jump Boosting. I'm pretty sure it means using your ship's Grav drive to Grav Jump in space nothing to do with boost packs. On a side note the use of a serpent residing in space as a deity in scifi is a long running trope based around Jormungander, Nidhoggr, Marduk, Bahamut, Tiamat, and many Asiatic wyrms such as the Lawu which are all based on the concept of a serpent like entity residing in "The Heavens" or space as we would call it today. Glad to see House Varuun keeping the tradition alive XD
Edit: Sorry Swany your pinned correction didn't show up until i posted this but ill keep it up since some people might like my side note lol.
Serpants worship is for GRAV Jumping not jet packing its a 3 hour bonus to fast travel which you do constantly and will always have it active
4 hour bonus
I like the wanted perk, aside from them showing up randomly on planet or in space the main reason I like it is if they land on the planet you can board their ship and take it.
Just starting the game this was very helpful❤
Why would you avoid base building early on? A couple small outposts mining the basics like iron and aluminum sets you up fast for both xp and money and you don't need to worry about stopping to tap every node you come across outside of hnigher tier mats (until you have outposts set up for them as well).
Han Solo background! I'm in!
Great info...there are a few spoilers you might warn against.
im on the fence cause i wanna take extrovert and wanted which leaves me choosing between hero worshipped and kid stuff. I wonder if kid stuff would be worth adding to a second playthough to add more flare to the second play through or if it would be worth just dropping extrovert and picking up the hero worshipped and kid stuff so you have a full robust story experience. its a hard decision lol
Honestly, wanted doesn’t seem to really shake things up that much. The loss of content isn’t worth the situational damage increase imo.
@@Akldog04 Yeah i ended up going with wanted and kid stuff and honestly ive played for about 8 hours now and havent been attacked by one of these mercenaries yet ;/ kind of a let down. Im definitely leaving it off on my second playthrough
I'm a bit on the fence with the perks to pick from. Personally, based on my gameplay in Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 4, I'm a sucker for unique collectables, including player homes. I think I'm going with the perks you've picked as well, especially wanted and kid's stuff. Although one question remains.
Is it possible to claim this 'Dream Home' outside of the perk system? Can you get it as a quest reward from completing missions for GalBank? Can you purchase the house from GalBank at any point? It does look nice and from roleplaying perspectives, I definitely would get some use out of it. Maybe more info about this house might be revealed when the game officially launches.
If I can get the house outside of the perk system, I'd definitely get the Adoring Fan perk because Oblivion was quite a fun game and I remember that guy, an iconic person that would make the game more fun!
I'll go with Explorer background and yes, the Dream Home, Adoring Fan and Parents.
Exploration is the best thing about Elder Scrolls and Fallout games - and I can't understand how someone can say that those perks are useless. ESPECIALLY when the main story is about you being a part of exploration guild.
Which do you feel you got better value from, hero worship or kid stuff. Like from the stuff they gave you. Which one would you recommend more
Great info! I am playing on Steam Deck so far and it looks really rad :)
Thank you so much for the video
Does anyone know if you can go back and pick your traits? I think i pressed A before picking them and now i dont have any traits..
I just finally started my first 2 hours of play last night..i think i picked Pilgrim. Pretty cool so far.. These are great tips i wish i watched BEFORE starting, but i like to just jump in anyway..
I’m more interested in how these effect dialog and how your perceived in the world. Rather than their stats
Thanks actually helpful
I love that you have to "unlock" the security perk ;)
Thank you, friend.
Grav jumping is warping from system to system. It's not about the jet pack.
With the weight lifting skill how many extra space sandwiches can you carry?
Great video thanks. I wish I watched something like this before Fallout 4 because I chose speech skill when I should have chosen combat. I was looking forward to FNV speech experience.
I went pilgrim introvert/empath/wanted myself really good for solo exploring/crafting and situationally good for companions when i found one i like and wanted to use for a while. Ton of fun
I went with Wanted, Terra Firma and Taskmaster. Wanted so i can sometimes have fun and farm bounty hunters, Taskmaster to have free repair and basically undestroyable ship (each time health go below 50%, crew member will instantly fix it, right?) and Terra Firma for perma HP/O2 bonus while on the planets, because you will spend 80-90% of the time on the planets. All other traits are either factions or roleplaying, except Extrovert/Introvert, but i dont know if i will play with or without companions, so i didnt want to risk with those 2 perks, since i dont know if companions are dumb or smart, majority of the time i play solo...Introvert would be good (Lone Wolf) but there is no option for 4th trait unfortunately...i think i didnt make mistake choosing the traits that i did, because they mostly boost your char stats and gives your free ship repair.
If you space fight with a ship . Do you keep the ship you defeat?
I chose dream home, raised enlightened, and freestar collective settler. I think I made pretty ass decisons. I’m ab 12 hours into my play through and I’m debating on creating a whole new character and start again. I don’t even plan to join the freestar collective or enlightened. I just thought they fit the vibe of an explorer who is looking for something more. Maybe even a higher power. I thought this fit the main story line good. From the role play perspective these traits work but I get nothing from the gameplay side. Do you guys think I should continue with this character or scarp it and choose different traits. I also almost didn’t pick any traits bc I didn’t like the cons that came with them. I always second guess myself when it comes to character creation
SF is notionally an RPG and you've picked traits on the basis of roleplay! - nothing wrong with that at all. I'll certainly be picking different faction backgrounds for new characters in subsequent playthroughs.
I think this video is coming from the perspective of a general first playthrough and what is going to make your "technical" gameplay easier from the start in terms of stats and bonuses along with which skills might might be best to pick up for the long run depending on what you want to do in the game.
I'm interested in:
Dream Home
Hero Worshipped
Kid Stuff
Taskmaster
Wanted
So hard to limit myself to only 3 lol. I wish Adoring Fan was a quest reward, like in Oblivion.
TBH - this is an RPG game, everyone should play it as wants to. Overpowering character is opposed to RPG in my opinion. It is more for casual players.
True i went pilgrim introvert/empath/wanted myself cause it fit the character i wanted to roleplay
