    Thank you for this video! I was not only changing my launch angle, but w as s walking diagonally; coming around the ball and extending my arm away from my body!! It’s a wonder that I didn’t throw many more balls into the gutter! Sometimes, too much information in your head makes you a constant “change and adjustment”artist.
    Your video clarified things for me that all those adjustments aren’t even necessary.
    Tanks.

    Man...this made so much sense. For reasons I still can't fully comprehend, my current coach changed my starting position to have my feet & hips face almost 45 degrees to the right while having my shoulders and hands facing the lane. After months of giving it a chance it still feels so unnatural having my body twisted like that while trying to walk in a straight line. I feel like this has ruined my swing plane and my timing as a whole.

    Excellent video. I tried making a scale drawing of a bowling lane using graph paper once. I had to tape several sheets of paper together to make a long enough piece of paper. Eventually I gave up and threw the whole thing in the trash. If I had seen this video back then, it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

      how wide were you trying to make it

    • @MyLameAnimations
      @MyLameAnimations Před rokem

      @@ArtOfBowling I wanted to be able to see each individual board, so I made the lane about 4" wide. I thought it would be cool to have a lane diagram that stretched from my floor to my ceiling. I gave up on the idea, because I lacked the art skills to make it look good. LOL. I still think it would make a good piece of wall art if someone could produce and sell an accurate scale drawing about that size.

    I am a righty and I usually miss the 10 pin to the right. This video will help and this info together with the one on getting the ball closer to my foot should increase my average. Hope I can get my coach to stand in the dummy position but if he sees you in the left gutter, he might decline the job. LOL

    Are there any things I should keep in mind if I’m a two handed. I figure it should be along the same rules but maybe there is something different?

  • @Strikemaster900
    @Strikemaster900 Před 5 lety +2

    This is helpful but for me it's different because I slide on the right foot and im right handed so I tend to keep my angles open all the time. However the 3 degrees I didn't know.

      @jvmiller1995 Před 2 lety

      After over 25 years of bowling and never having formal training I have learned number 1 rule in bowling is consistency. Nothing is wrong as long as you can repeat the same shot. However there are some basic fundamentals to consider that can increase our consistency. If people are just learning it is best to learn proper technic but we all have to adapt what works best for us.

    How does one keep the ball close to the ankle? Also, what effect does the slide foot angle at release have on the shot, if any.

    • @ArtOfBowling
      @ArtOfBowling  Před 5 lety +4

      Some people turn their foot (like me ) im pidgeon toed. More impotantly the shoulders need to be square to the target. There is a drill I do to keep the ball close to the ankle. If you deliver stright up the 10 board releasing with your slide foot on the 16th borad. Practice hitting the 10 board at the dots arrows and range finders. You cannot do that unless you are releasong from the proper spot with a stright arm swing.

    If the oil is broken down to the point I have to move left, how can I send the ball out and still get it to come back to the pocket. My issue is rev rate. My rev rate used to be high when I was a teen, as I’m approaching my thirties, I’m trying to figure out how to get it all back.

    • @ArtOfBowling
      @ArtOfBowling  Před 5 lety +4

      99 out of 100 times revs are lost in foot work. Id have to see a side view video

    What if you walk at a slight angle to the foul line (drift) so you are square to your target? I’ve always heard to not to drift, but if you drift and are square to your target at release seems better and more consistent than shifting at last second of release to square up.

    • @ArtOfBowling
      @ArtOfBowling  Před rokem +2

      drifting is ok as long as it is the same every time....my rule of thumb is if you drift consistantly we leave it alone if we drift 3 boards one time and 5 the next and 4 the next it is time to fix it

    • @ArtOfBowling

      We do tend to open up too much. Tighten up your angles and you'll be able to play from anywhere

  • @drwisdom1
    @drwisdom1 Před 5 lety

    No, the lane isn't thin. Its near impossible to throw a gutter ball on the first shot unless you are a risky player. Rather, the hook appears to be a lot bigger than it really is due to the viewing angle.
    I never vary the way my feet, hips, or shoulders are pointing. To change my angles I move my feet and the target board.
