A tip about making fruit leather in the dehydrator: remove it from the tray when it is still a little bit warm. It is more pliable this way and easier to remove. I put a thin coating of oil on the tray first to prevent sticking. Coconut oil works well. I like to do applesauce blended with other fruits. It gives a really nice fruit leather texture. I have found that cooking spray like PAM does not work well. It gives an off flavor after so many hours of cooking in the dehydrator. Hope this helps someone! I love my dehydrator and do dehydrated pears every summer. ❤️😊

When I dehydrate fruit, I generally don’t peel them actually. With apples dry sprinkling a little bit of apple pie spice on them 😋. My kids LOVE this rhubarb candy I make, soak thin ribbons of rhubarb in simple syrup for about an hour then strain and pop the rhubarb on the dehydrator. So good!

I use food processor with the slicer blade on it to cut up stuff for the dehydrator. You can still use the fruit if it's cut up thinner, it just takes less time to dry out. If you get a BIG can of pineapple circles you can and pat them dry and dehydrate those too. Quick and easy. Tastes like candy.

Get an apple peeler, corer and slicer. The old fashion ones that you center the apple and set the peeler then turn the crank. It takes about 20 minutes or less to fill the dehydrator. Store in glass ball jars (Large ones) Great snacks for kids and if no one is eating the fruit dehydrate it. Basil and other herbs from the garden. Think about it. Have the kids help. If you like the roll ups just get a few more trays to make more.

I just bought a cotton candy maker, same idea, different style. My friends and I have a lot of parties, so I thought it would be cool to have cotton candy. I actually didn't have any sugar or hard candies when it came but I desperately wanted to try it so I just used some of the organic sugar I have lol.
BTW, in case anyone is wondering, it melts the sugar and then it gets flung out through the bottom of the spinner part. Since it's very thin it cools as it hits the air basically, leaving threads of sugar =)

Floss (and other brands) make a blue-raspberry cotton candy sugar. When I was a teenager I worked at Showbiz/Chuck E. Cheese and one of my jobs was to make cotton candy. It was always fun, but SUPER messy. I'd come home from work with cotton candy webs all over my clothes, hair, and skin. A couple of tips... you can let the cotton candy build up on the sides of the machines for a bit and then use your cone to gather it up and swirl - that makes it a little easier to get the bigger poofs; and you can also re-use the hard bits of sugar that stick to the round sides of the container.

You could paint the cotton candy machine base black and build a giant spider around it for Halloween and it could be a spider web spinning station for a Halloween party!

The success of the candy flossing depends on the type of sugar they have. Some older videos on TKOR experiments with candy types. If your book doesnt mention it, you might try watching their videos. Also if your fruit leather dries out too much, fruit chips taste pretty good too. As long as its not burnt.

If you have a fruit\veggie slicer then preparing the fruit is a lot faster. I also recommend slicing bananas and sprinkling them with with your choice of sugar free Jello powder then dehydrating them, its sooooo good!!!!

I love using my dehydrator to make cinnamon apple chips! I take my apples, core them, slice into rings, coat with lemon juice(to prevent browning), sprinkle with cinnamon and dehydrate! The length of dehydration depends on how thick you slice them. I slice them with my mandolin on medium slice and dehydrate for 24 hours. I do rotate my trays 3 times in the 24 hours(the closer to the will burn before fully dehydrating if you don't). Let cool and they are crunchy like chips, but are all apple and cinnamon! My kiddos love them!
