  • See how the Infinity locking miter bit works with the setup jig for perfect lock miter woodworking joints every time. This used to be a tedious setup, but with the setup gauge, it's quick and simple. I can dial in the bit height and fence setting on the first try, and you will too.

    This is a vast improvement over your first vid with the same info! Cutting out the unnecessary chit-chat makes a clean and helpful video! Thanks!

    This was extremely helpful! I'd like to add one suggestion: Slow down the router to 16,000 rpm. Even the 1/4" backer board still leaves the bit to hog out quite a bit of material. Slowing the bit, will leave even cleaner cuts.

      Good point. There's a sweet spot for every bit, but definitely don't run large diameter bits at full RPM.. thanks.

    The backer board idea is brilliant. Will incorporate it next time I use those bits.

    I have no locking miter bits and don't plan on buying any, but clicked on this video for some reason. The removable mdf fence offsets have blown my mind, how have I never thought of that. This is absolutely perfect for doing multiple repeatble cuts without moving the fence, I can definitely find a use for that. Thank you !

      That's awesome! You don't even have to buy one now. I bet it works great for you, especially if you have the setup jig.

    I bought one oof these bits before they became so popular and all of the big names caught on. I gotta say though I would love to buy the same one you have. Mainly for the set up jig, lol. Seriously though mine stopped holding an edge so I'm due for a knew one. I love the 1/4" MDF tip! That can be used with many types of bits. Thank you for sharing this!!

    I used these on some fence/deck post sleeves in a Brazilian hardwood to slide them over pt 4x4 s. The lock miter is really so much superior to any other miter it really isn’t close. Your method shown here brings things to the next level. Will be getting that bit and implementing.

    That MDF backer board is brilliant. I struggled with this bit because of the board would wobble. Thanks

    Like someone else said I too have the Incra fence so could do without the 1/4” mdf backer against the fence and just set it, zero the scale and then move it forward 1/4”.
    However I like your approach with a modification: to know your proper fence position, push the fence away, attach one piece of mdf to the fence that spans the entire fence, then progressively move the fence towards the cutter so that it cuts a cutter shaped profile that projects only as far as required. This way you get fence support all the way across (no gap in the fence) and it’s also safer.

      I like your idea for a zero clearance fence. Here's why I never bothered doing that. With my system, you remove the spacer for the second cut, so it wouldn't be there for the final pass. Generally in woodworking though I usually like 2 passes better than one, and a zero clearance insert whenever I can. Thanks.

      @@TheThoughtfulWoodworker sure, with using the accuracy of the Incra fence I can do the two passes with a sacrificial fence

    I have this bit and jig. It really does work very well. I definitely use a backer board so the edges are nice but I don't use it for the his "two pass" method. I have an Incra fence so once I have the bit set (full depth of cut vertically and horizontally), I just set my scale to an even number. Then I take multiple passes (starting with something shallow) working my way back to that even number (the setting for full depth of cut). Very important to make the center of your work piece and very important square the bit and jig to the fence for the fence position.

    How about a video with a long post instead of using very short pieces of wood. I'm sure that would be a little more useful than a 12'' project. T Y

    • @TheThoughtfulWoodworker
      @TheThoughtfulWoodworker  Před 10 dny

      Well, it's the technique and setup that matters. Once you have that dialed in you can make it as long as you want. I've done fireplace mantels and bedposts that were 4' long, and it works fine. Here's another video if you want... czcams.com/video/S1syKkJBIJs/video.html

    The link for Setup Gauge takes you to the actual bit. Is there a gauge or was that a joke?

      @TheThoughtfulWoodworker  Před 3 měsíci

      The setup gauge is real, no joke here! It's a shared listing with the bits and the setup gauges, so if you poke around a little you should find it. Appreciate it!

    • @TheThoughtfulWoodworker
      @TheThoughtfulWoodworker  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I am proud to say it happened on the first try. If I have a lot of material to run, I'll test my setup, but usually its bang-on first try. That setup jig works wonders. amzn.to/3w5bqLu
