- In 2010, at the age of 27, Candide Thovex pulled off one of the most impressive comebacks of all-time.
After winning just about every Freestyle competition (including three golds at the Aspen Winter X Games in the Big Air, Super Pipe and Slopestyle), Candide missed the 2008 and 2009 seasons through what many saw as a career ending injury.
In 2010, Candide returned to competitive sport, but this time around, he chose freeriding and decided to enter the 2010 Freeride World Tour. The skier from La Clusaz began in imperious fashion with a win in the first stage in Chamonix, and followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the second leg of the Tour. After finishing further down the scoreboard at Palisades Tahoe (in 17th), Candide arrived in Verbier occupying second place in the provisional overall rankings. And so, on a Sunday morning, Candide launched himself, for the very first time, from the Bec des Rosses, the iconic home of the Xtreme Verbier. With a smooth and controlled run, Candide bagged a third podium finish in four events, and gained the ultimate reward as he was crowned as the very best freerider on the planet.
A true legend of the sport that will forever be remembered as one of the greatest of all-time.

Candide Thovex is the greatest skier of all time. There has never been a more brilliant use of brain, body and 4 edges ever. Truly the GOAT.

@@randymarsh7252 Not really necessary to separate each possible way to use a ski when talking about Thovex. He can lay down a perfect DH turn, SG turn, GS turn, Sl turn, bump turn, and any other turn you can think of, and then do park airs that he was at the forefront of landing, in any snow condition and terrain.
And a some point in the future, what he is doing now will look very ordinary
@@SolaceEasy Having grown up with 210's and short cuffed boots, I can see why you would say that. Gear, especially pre-plastic and early plastic boot tech, certainly limited his era and he stood out as a true talent most definitely.
I worked for Dynastar/Lange when Thovex got his first pro model, and I am biased. I've skied with many WC racers, bumpers, park geniuses, etc., and I've never been in awe like seeing Candide ski. Could he do it on a 210 GS and a '70's Lange Banshee? Of course! I'm in WP, Co. and it's snowing like crazy.

In my opinion he’s the best and most complete skier ever. He’s probably not the best at any one skiing discipline but he’s top 5 in all of them
So glad Candide moved to big mountain extremes taking his fine Big Air Jumps with him. He moved the tour to a higher level that we see today. Thanks!

@@cycleoflife7331 true but it’s expensive and I don’t get to go too often nowadays..so it’s hard to convince myself to spend the money and time to learn to ski when I could just do what I’m already good at. Definitely tempting tho. Lol
@@teeple1877 yeah I'm a snowboarder too, I've been watching a lot of Candide lately. I was trying to search youtube for cool snowboarding videos, I didn't and only found amateur guys, with millions of views though, fun, but it felt like slow slow slow motion, like almost a kid and his dad skiing or competing.
He a pretty solid skater as well and reflects in his skiing. Skis like a boarder. Super tight stance, and really fluid. Ripper
