You can tell this is around the time Mack was struggling with drug abuse. Them firing her was necessary, but im sure it just added to the pain she was trying to mask with drugs. It was a daunting process, but im glad she eventually conqured her demons.
Look people if you have any negative comments about any of the actresses go watch another video on CZcams. Some of us loved this show and just want to appreciate it for what it was.
@ny giants fan raider fan He was a dud on this show. They made him into an idiot, completely oblivious to Julie's behavior. The red flag was when she was going through the guest list and exclaimed: "Who the hell is Beatrice Clinton?" "My mother!" That should have been it.
Poor Mackenzie. She was so ill from drugs then.. She was only 20 years old here, and this is the best top make-up and wardrobe people could make her look.
@ny giants fan raider fan Yes,she is only slightly older then I am. She did play the mother on the show "So weird" and tour with The Mamas and the Papas. But with her talent she could have done so much more.
@@carollewis3912 Yes,but she was so young and her make-up and hair stylists and dresser were all tops in the field. They did a good job but her appearance is markedly different from just a few years earlier.
This was the third and fourth episodes filmed in season five and the last of the four episodes to have my favorite version of the opening credits (25:59) - with shots of Indianapolis in the background. After this episode, they went to a green-blue plain background to add Michael's credit for the "scrapbook theme". Some of the shots used in the next set of opening credits came from this episode. The producers knew something was up with Mackenzie here - she looks very thin already and they wouldn't have thrown episodes like this together and them NOT airing in November sweeps.
Clearly, Julie was not ready to get married and this was rushed. She had just had a deep relationship she couldn't handle at the end of season 4. Then presto, in a matter of months, she goes on a ski trip in October and gets married to the best man.
@ny giants fan raider fan She was suspended for six shows to "go to rehab". There is a video on here when Michael Lembeck said during that wedding episode, Mackenzie called him into her dressing room....where she had lines of cocaine on a table. He knew he was in trouble then. Also, there was a rehearsal when she was going through her purse and a vial of cocaine fell out - other actors saw it. I think she actually admitted to that.
I loved watching (Captain Kool and the Cong) One of my favorite shows when I was a little girl...😃 Michael was so cute to me. I always had a crush on him...💕
It appears to me that Julie couldn't handle a strong man like max because he was so crazy in love with her but was so afraid to really give herself a heart to him as I seen this years ago from what I seen that she only meant Fred no more than a month and was rushing to tie the knot to disapointment but max on the other hand really confronted Julie about putting on a show about her ways about she's afraid to love and it really showed how much she was going though after every episode that max was trying to really hold on to her the more he push himself the more she pulled back...he really really loved her as he said ...it really made her seen that he wasn't joking about it...it takes a strong person like max to actually say those charming words to her about him being honest about how much he really cared about her....on the other hand about Fred there that future wouldn't have made it with Julie...just can't jump to marriage right away...that takes months and years to really get to know each other
The Waltons, at least there appeared to be a time gap between Mary Ellen switching grooms. Here Julie is about to marry one guy, then marrying a different guy the same morning.
And in "A Different World", Whitley does the same thing. On the altar with Byron and ended up marrying Dwayne after he confessed (again) his love for her, while she secretly still loved Dwayne. I always wonder: If Dwayne hadn't shown up, would she have married Byron anyway?

Gosh I wish Schneider and Ann Romano would've hooked up..... that would have been a happy ending even though Schneider was old enough to be Ann's father
Dumb episode. Julie on a whim, decides to marry some guy she just met on the slopes, that she just met two days ago? And then she realizes she's not in love with Fred, she's in love with Max? The OTHER guy she just met on the slopes two days ago? Like why doesn't she try dating the guy for a couple weeks first? And she did wind up running out on this guy anyway; and they fought pretty regularly while they were married...so OBVIOUSLY that was a dumb move.
You think that's creepy - you should see the 1975 "Three to Get Ready" pilot. Schneider using his pass key to get into the apartment where Julie and her friend Sara were.
Boy!! I get so sick and tired!! of every sitcom, every drama show, every movie show, you look at on TV they do the same old boring routine when a man and woman is about to get married they get into a big argument before they get married and then they start hugging and kissing because every single TV show I look at that involved a man and woman about to get married go through the same boring thing over and over again they have to start an argument before they can get married please can a producer or a director or writer out there somewhere come up with some New concept besides the same old stuff that has been going on since decades couples do not have to argue every time they get ready to get married
.....THIS here, shows why the 'Julie' character was SO problematic for the show, onscreen, AND off! FIRST: Mackenzie's appearance; even though she was a tall, svelte, young lady, here, she indefinitely reached an 'unhealthy' looking apex...drained, lifeless hair, long stringy arms, pale PALE skin, almost NO bosom, and we're to believe she has these two STUDS, fighting for HER?! Max has a sexy 'bite' to him, so it would've made MORE sense, if it was BARBARA who they were fighting for! The writers / producers knew 'Julie' was the troublesome one that could give 'lines' to the other characters, but Mackenzie's 'travails' were at an all-time....'high'....here, and was about ready to.....'blow'...... : ( "Fred" was a 'placeholder', but Michael got the short end of the stick around this ep; to be a new addition to an established TV series, & have the central character you're 'involved' with, dismissed / fired / truncated, must have caused concern for him! ...but, Valerie....OH, Valerie! STUNNINGLY gorgeous; FULL full-bodied hair, and, gaining a 'Full Body', in those tight jeans, she was setting a PRECEDENT for T.V. 'tom-girls' turned beautiful SWANS in 1979! ...THAT was probably why Mackenzie couldn't 'cope' on the series...Oh well, One Day at a 'Time'......¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Julia was always plainer than Barbara but when she was healthy looking it was feasible she would be popular. Here it's just sad,she looks older than Ann.
I always liked this show but thought the casting was odd. It also seemed a bit cruel for McKenzie and Valerie to be cast as sisters...when one was obviously so much prettier. Mackenzie in a romantic storyline? She sounds like she just smoked a pack of Kools. No thanks.
Every time I see MacKenzie Philipps I think about the hell she went through. I am so glad that she's doing a lot better.
A clear warning Max and Julie's marriage was doomed from the start.
I had the biggest crush on Max 🥰😍🥰🥰😍
I remember doing homework and hearing this episode in the back room as we weren’t allowed to on a school night.
Schneider was quite an actor even before he did one day at a time and when he did it great actor nice looking handsome man too

I think the name Carrie Heffernan is from the show King of Queens!! Thank you for putting on One day at a time, I love this show!✌️👍⭐😁💯
Your sure right lol I remember that show to this and three's company are the best
I'm guessing Fred & Max's friendship didn't make it after all this!! :D
We never see Fred again, correct.

I'm still trying to understand how neither of those idiots could keep their attention off of Barbara. Good gravy, men.
That's what I say. I always thought she was better looking.
Love when Max tells Julie that

Id forgotten how every commercial was medical back in the day. Thanks for not editing them out so we got to enjoy them again. Sarcasm
Both Julie and Barbara married guys they initially couldn't stand, after a whirlwind romance.

RIP Morgan Stevens.
I remember this. Seemed weird that in the end she married Max and not Fred. Of course, the marriage didn't last.
That's because she was going through stuff and got fired
She left him and her daughter in an episode ...
Isnt it Something To Attend A Wedding and have intentions to marry the groom and wind up with the best man? Patrick Dempsey would love this episode!
This episode is crazy.
I always felt max should of been with Barbara and Julie should of been with someone else

Just like The Waltons episode, when Mary Ellen almost married another Doctor, instead of Dr. Curtis Willard.
Hold everything--Mary Ellen married Dr. Curtis Willard instead of Dr. David Spencer.
The Waltons, at least there appeared to be a time gap between Mary Ellen switching grooms. Here Julie is about to marry one guy, then marrying a different guy the same morning.
