Thank you for this video! I’m a young adult who’s focused on memorizing scripture and I found this video at the right time! Just today I’ve been reviewing scripture that I thought I had down pat, but I agree that having to review it really makes it resonate in my spirit! God bless!

I’m not an “efficiency” person, but I do get frustrated when a section of verses I thought I had down goes missing from my memory. In reality it’s just part of the process of keeping it long term.

This makes so much sense. I feel like the rest of my life is all about efficiency. Processes, systems, routines. But when it comes to scripture memory, I love to stew on one line, one phrase, on repeat, stuck in meditation. I still have goals and deadlines, but it’s definitely a different part of my brain at work.

Good point about forgetting fosters focus. I’ve found that tru for trying to memorize stories for oral Bible storytelling.

I couldn’t agree more. So many times the forgetting prior memorized verses helps to figure out why I’m not remembering it. It is usually because I’ve lost the continuity and haven’t embedded the connections well enough to if that all makes sense.

Great thoughts! I appreciated your Jacob Collier reference at the beginning. He's the most gifted musician I've ever seen in my 70+ years. I'm going to be "inefficient" by going to hear him in person (for the 2nd time) later this month.

Good thoughts. I am currently memorizing some of the Psalms. Psalm 22 has killed any efficiency I may have had. It has been very hard to memorize. I am almost there however.

Excellent video. It's nice to know you are not alone in feeling frustrated at times with yourself for forgetting what you already learned. And I'm slow to memorize but I never felt bad about it because I tend to focus on what is being memorized especially the little words like the, and, but, etc. Many people skip over these and the newer Bible version leave those important words out like Romans 8:28 KJV And we know that all things word together for good to them that love God to them who are THE called... The called. So there are some who aren't called? Yes. Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son....for he shall save his people... His people so there are some that aren't his people and the scripture where all the sick and those filled with Demons were brought to JEsus and he healed many but not all. Interesting.

How do you suggest organizing a memorization group? Should the group work on the same passage or should each member have their own passage?
