There is turth in saying today's game allows players more space to operate with less congestion in the paint and maybe a bit less physicality allowed... BUT, people really love to exaggerate the effects of this... In the 90s you had guys like Wayman Tisdale, Brad Daugherty, Vin Baker, Tom Gugliotta, Juwan Howard averaging over 20 points per game in the NBA... These guys were all smaller and significantly less skilled than Jokic is in every single facet of basketball and they were still able to put up some of the highest averages in the league on +50% FG... Thinking Jokic would somehow struggle to put up his typical 25-30 points is laughable...

@@damienwyche2105 Sure, the players were better, but it's not like Jokic can't play against tall players. His entire thing is high-IQ playmaking, and that translates to basically any era. Hell, his post-passing and short-roll passing are pretty much second-to-none All-Time, and he's not a slouch at bully-ball, even if it's not his specialty. On top of that, he's got a great mid-range shot, so... I could see him being an MVP caliber player, even back then.

First time NBA players played in Europe was in the 60es when NBA players played unofficial exibition games in Belgrade, Serbia (back then Yugoslavia). Later in mid 80es Boston Celtics played official televised game against team Yugoslavia, I think 2 of them. First international players in NBA, who were relevant, accepted and known, were 2 Yugoslavs, Vlade Divac (Serb) and Drazen Petrovic (Croat of a Serbian descent) and 1 Lithuanian Sarunas Marciulionis. Also, Bora Stankovic, a Serb, president of FIBA at the time, was a guy who made a decision to let NBA players play at the Olympic games and other international competitions, thus allowing NBA popularity to spread all over the world and help international players also reach to NBA much easier, thus elevating basketball quality outside of USA. As a Serbian guy, I am proud that my country and my fellow Serbs played an important role in basketball development worldwide. It is also worthy of mentioning that Serbs gave the biggest number of players in NBA, after Americans and Canadians, 33 of them, and the number is bigger if you count in players of Serbian descent or straight up Serbs who played or are playing for other national teams, around 15 of them, that is close to 50 NBA players (God knows how many in Euroleague) which came out of nation of around 10 million worldwide.

Arvydas was shooting threes as a center in the ‘80s when most NBA players would get benched if they tried something like that. oh my God... in the Era of the Bulls and Bad Boy Pistons Joker would just tear it up. That was a super-physical era in the sense of how the interior of the court was defended. Joker doesn't need to 'swim upstream' against that with his game. You double him he'll spin you around with dimes. You try and 'body up' on him he'll torch you with footwork ala Hakeem the Dream. You try to play back and dare him to shoot he'll bomb you into oblivion from range or eat you alive with the Sombor Shuffle midrange. You try to play him straight up and his balanced overall game will just leave you in the dust. While his game is dominant today in 90s basketball it would be even more so. Think Sabonis but a much better shooter, more mobile, better footwork, and even a better passer.
