Love your channel Ryan. Im happy for Jackson, what an unbelievable talent. I was drafted by the O’s in the 5th round in 1988. Your grandfather helped coach instructional league in 1988 and he was coaching 3rd base and I got a base hit with the bases loaded and at that exact moment I told myself I made it. I was only 18 ( drafted out of H.S) I thought to myself, just a few months ago I was playing in High school now Cal Ripken Sr. Was my 3rd base coach. I was in spring training with your dad in Sarasota but only seen him in the cafeteria. Haha. Im from Detroit and still live here and was really hoping to get a trade done with Skubal. That’s how much I think of Holiday. Keep up the good work 💪🏼
Great take! You’re absolutely right about his approach! Well done!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
It’s so obvious that Orioles staff & coaches are the best in the league at fixing player mechanics issues. This rocks.
Great explanation and video showing how Jackson turned things around since coming back up. Love your channel and watching your videos. Keep up the great work Ryan! And as the great Rex Barney use to say "Thank you"!
Best batting advice I ever got was, "Watch the ball hit your bat." Worked wonders for me.
It is such a simple piece of advice, but so true!
EXCELLENT! MORE OF THESE PLEASE!
Give this man a show on MASN.
NO, then I can't watch it lol. I like it on CZcams
Great content thanks for the breakdown!
Man serious baseball education happening here.
I noticed in the Cleveland series that Jackson is about to go off.but I really appreciate the technical analysis of why 🙏🏽 Go Os
He is on fire right now. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching!
Ted Williams would have agreed with your hitting lesson today, Ryan. Excellent lesson!
I have or had the same issue as Jackson holiday as I never played baseball 2 years ago but I made varsity this past season and I was making this mistake and pulled off so much, even when I thought I fixed it I hadn’t, but I feel during this offseason I have fixed it, and I related heavy to the pulling everything while not trying. But this video is great and is helping me realize what more I can do to work on it all.
I’m watching Off Base and they’re breaking down the series between us and Cleveland, and it’s kinda mind blowing. They’re saying that they like the O’s more because of the starting pitching, specifically Burnes being a bonafide ace. Then a couple people started talking about how everyone needs to stop saying Cleveland is sneaky, and a surprise and all this because they’re for real. And they started talking about how they have the best bullpen in baseball, a lineup that has some key guys and that has been hitting the long ball with authority, and suddenly I realized they were talking about the 2014 Orioles. And surrounding seasons. And I found myself talking to the TV saying, “you have to have the starting pitching, we have been that team before and it doesn’t get it done. It leads to games where you feel like you’re still in it, you have a chance, and suddenly they crack a 3 run homer off that bullpen you’ve come to rely on so heavily, and it’s all over(Mike Moustakis game 1 ALCS).” And then I realized that we have transitioned from that sneaky underdog team to the “sexy” favorite with all the major pieces. Because while it isn’t dumb to put a lot of stock in a great bullpen, in the playoffs, most relievers tend to be the best versions of themselves in October and the guys that people expect to dominate tend to struggle while the guys with no focus on them tend to shine. I think in October everyone’s going to be talking about and talking to our core position players and our ace starters, while everyone ignores our star-less bullpen and they come out with a chip on their shoulder leading to a very quiet scoreless October streak as the starters and position players get their jobs done as well. This team is EXTREMELY poised to be the most complete team in baseball this postseason. All we need is for a few relievers to step up and pitch their best and there’s not a team in baseball that can contend with us. If Efflin winds up being our number two because he has a resurgence back to his prime seasons, and Grayson has the relaxation of pitching against a team’s #3 where he’s head and shoulders above them in terms of ability, we are going to get a lot of 6 and 7 scoreless inning appearances from our starters, leading to our bullpen pitching with 3, 4 and 5 run leads early in the series to develop a confidence that shines through in close games later in the series, if it even goes that far because while everyone talks about the susceptibility of teams getting to our bullpen, they will simultaneously be acting like our lineup can’t get to their bullpen, despite the fact that Cleveland’s bullpen just got their butts kicked for four days. And, you can expect Dean and Trevor to have an intense competition down the stretch for that #4 spot so you should also expect them to come into October as the best versions of themselves knowing that they won that job, but they’re always going to be one bad outing away from losing that job. So while everyone talks about our big 3, expect our #4 to pitch as well or better than those 3, especially when they’ll have the first 3 games of scouting reports at their disposal prior to throwing their first pitch in the series. And if a team is down 3-0 or 2-1, you can expect their lineups to either have a sense of urgency that hurts them at the plate or a sense of defeatism that leads to a comfortable game 4 en route to a sweep. The bottom line is, the Orioles have the big 3 starters and the incredibly deep lineup to win the first 6 innings of every game in October, and I don’t see a team winning the first 6 innings of every game and simultaneously losing a 5 or 7 game series. When we come out slow offensively in game 1, Corbin will get us through to a win and Efflin will be close behind him so Grayson pitches with the full weight of the offense supporting him, and the Orioles are going to win the AL Pennant this year. I can’t see anything else happening, no matter how many scenarios I play out in my head. Is anyone else losing their mind’s realizing this? Cuz I am.
It’s been a long road to an Orioles pennant. It’s finally our time Orange! Our team is coming together. Your comment was dead on.
@@mattabel9066 check out my comment about the schedules because that’s even crazier. The Yankees and Orioles both have 3 off days while the other team plays, then the rest of our off days are lined up. The Yankees play 10 teams under .500/out of contention while the Orioles play 9 because the last series(right after a head up 3 game set in the Bronx)the Yankees play Pittsburgh at home while the O’s play Minnesota on the road. The only upside is that Pittsburgh didn’t sell out at the deadline bc they have great starting pitching, the question is whether or not those guys will be shut down by then or still pitching. They’d have a great chance to play spoiler even though they’re on the road. Much like the 2011 Orioles who went on to win the wildcard in 2012, Pittsburgh is not a far cry from having a high likelihood of doing the same thing, and who could forget what the 2011 Orioles did to the Red Sox on day 162.
Great breakdown. Nice to see Jackson figuring it out. It was frustrating watching some of the fans turn on him during his first call up. Like they were doing anything of consequence at 20.
Ryan, these descriptions and analysis are fantastic. I love this channel. Keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for the feedback and the support!
Love this breakdown, can’t wait for Coby Mayo breakdown
Was looking for this. Thanks. Its getting better and better. Go Birds!
Practice makes perfect right? Appreciate you watching.
I can identify with Jackson. When I went from T-Ball to Little League the game was so much faster and those 45 MPH fastballs were brutal. Went 0 for 29 before I found my groove . 😹
Nice breakdown. Subscribed
Thank you for watching! Let me know who you would be interested in me breaking down next.
@@RYANRIPKENMEDIATony Taters, please!
Nice breakdown, but one correction - the HR against Cleveland was on a curveball but it was by no means a hanging curveball. That pitch had plenty of bite and most batters would have missed it. Calling the pitch a hanger does Holliday a disservice.
It was a hanger, just because it had bite means nothing it was above the strike zone and bit down into meat territory, it was a hanger....
I like the way he lifts his leg but he had to swing level and stay on the ball as you mentioned.
The world is his oyster the potential is right there!
Baseball ⚾️
Ryan, I’ve been saying the same thing about Adley. His first move is out not striding to the ball and up the middle. Pulls off and collapses the back shoulder and back leg and hits a lot of pop ups. His enormous talent allows him to get away with it but if he adjusted like O’Hearn did and stood more upright he’d pound the ball. Do an analysis of Adley!
Love Jackson, Holiday🧡🖤🧡🖤
Great analysis. Channel is finding its groove. An Interesting breakdown might be to compare the April version of Santander to what he is doing differently now. Best of luck.
Definitely can do that. Thank you for the suggestion!
@@RYANRIPKENMEDIA Ryan, when I was I kid my father would take me to Memorial Stadium. Back then the Orioles always took infield practice and the gates opened early so spectators could watch. I was fascinated by the green grass and how white the baseballs were. But here was the coolest thing. At the end of infield practice your grandfather would hit balls around the infield starting at 3rd base. The 3rd basemen would field the grounder, throw to first and head to the dugout. This would progress from SS to 1B and then the only two people left on the field were the catcher and Ripken Sr. With the fungo bat. Your grandfather would toss the ball in the air and smash a towering pop up to the catcher who hardly moved from where he was standing to make the catch. Hard to convey how cool that was and what a bad ass your GF was to us kids before your dad appeared on the scene. Great memories.
When it’s all said and done, 25-30 years from now, the Orioles should retire #7 and put Holliday’s name above it and Ripken Sr. below it. I can’t wait for the baseball world to find out that Jackson Holliday is playing with incredible natural talent and the full weight of the baseball Gods where Cal Sr, the greatest to ever do it, has resided since he left us back in March of 1999, you’ll always be loved and missed Senior, and thanks so much for Holliday.
Nice job RR....great video!
Ryan, I loved this video and your dead-on analysis. Not sure if you need anyone else on your show, e.g. Ben Verlander. You have that kind of baseball mind and pedigree, only better. Love to see you interview Daddy-o Cal, Uncle Billy, and their former teammates, as well as new and newer ones. Love to hear some Memorial Stadium stories.
Thank you for watching and the compliment!
I did actually do a 1 on 1 interview with Bill here:

I think he was use to that big leg Kick and swing, which you can get away with in lower level ball, but now he’s in the he’s has to shorten the swing get to those with tons of breaks in them
Mickey Mantle was sent back down during his rookie year and he turned out ok
He looks Soo much like his dad with the bat I was getting flashbacks. I like where his channel is going .
Appreciate you tuning in
How does Jackson look like his dad?
His dad hit from the Right side and his dad is 4 inches taller and at least 50lbs heavier….
They look very different….
Jackson is 6” and 180lbs
Matt is 6”4 and 240lbs….
WTH are you talking about…

Jackson Holliday is the next aaron judge type power hitter in the American league, book it.
Lmao, you smoke lots of dope. The guy is the Ryan Leaf of MLB
Anyone else notice that the same season Jackson Holliday made his debut wearing #7, the number of Cal Sr aka Senior aka Patriarch of Baltimore Baseball, is the same season the 1988 Orioles losing streak record is being broken by the Chicago White Sox? Serendipity? A sign of what’s to come in the postseason? I Think Sooooooo…
This kid is going to be so unreal it’s not even funny. This video proves that Jackson has a focus on driving fastballs up the middle, pitches away to the opposite field, and that will result in pulling and crushing mistakes. And that curveball from Williams is a pitch that EVERY hitter that’s faced Williams this year is hitting .088 off and Jackson put it in the seats. That pitch is so nasty it fooled Ryan on the monitor from home. That pitch is disgusting, and there’s no way we can call that a hanger, that’s a 12 to 6 filthy curveball. And Jackson slammed it. So if I’m a pitcher facing him, I’m terrified to throw my breaking balls knowing he’s going to do that even if he’s not sitting on the pitch and just trusting his process and approach. That means I have to rely on high heat to get him out bc it’s the only thing he hasn’t crushed so far, and when you’re this good, it’s only a matter of time until you’re crushing heaters. Look at Cowser, look at every other rookie ever in the history of baseball, it’s always struggles with slower stuff and extreme success on the heaters, but Jackson is reversed and that means he’s going to be EXTREMELY special. I think he’s going to formally announce his presence the same way Juan Soto did in Washington and the Beltway is about to win another World Series on the backs of rookies players formally bursting on the scene.
Bend those knees, kid!!
Dude he looks like a Ripken. why as a baseball fan is this so familiar, media has brain washed me. I’d vote for this man for office, that’s my lizard brain for you. Baseball!
@@SO-if3yn Hi. I am a Ripken 😂
I guess I can’t figure out why he needed to be sent down to make these adjustments. Why couldn’t the coaches fix it when he first came up? Seems like some minor things.
At his young age, why ask him to change his batting habits in the major league? Orioles can afford to ease him back down, let him work out the kinks out if the limelight, and return with his dignity intact.
I remember Brandon Hyde saying they just want to wrap their arms around him and take care of him in these early days. He went back to the minors with a plan, executed that plan, and now we're reaping the benefits. It's good to see.
Jackson merrill better and more upside cause his size
They are both great players
they Yankees got rained out last night so we're only 1/2 game back after all that happened last night.
the pitching has been snake bitten this year and we can't afford to have disgruntled players cost us games
Does Urias need to go out there any more and show us who he is???? There's nobody else we can try there?
I'd rather lose with a 'plug in' on the hot corner...it happens on the mound at times right...stick Cedrick in over there
he'll be able to catch a ball from the catcher
2 home runs is not success, he looks totally lost on defense making inexcusable errors over and over
