      In group dances, the shorter kids tend to get in the front or center in order to get more pleasing formations. I don't think her being in the front for this particular dance has anything to do with being the favorite. ida g it’s even more of a stupid idea because if u look at the 2 girls you can see at that moment Nia’s expressions are actually brilliant and Maddie’s is just a little smirk she does in every dance that kind of have that posh and confident feel but it doesn’t match the dance. I’m sure big Dance Mom fans will know the face I’m on about. Her facials at this time consisted of a face that looks like she’s going to roar, an over the top wide mouthed smile, the confident smirk or the sad face that she herself called the constipated face lol. I think Maddie has come a long way since dance moms. She has a brilliant work ethic and her dancing is incredible and always improving... but throughout the show I never could understand the obsession with her “brilliant” expressions. I’ve seen Mackenzie, Nia and Chloe all act brilliantly and pull realistic and suitable faces where I’d see Maddie do the same every dance regardless of the theme.

      I’m not Native, but this disgusted me. It shows the ignorance and I can say that living in Canada I have witnessed acts of mass racism towards Native Canadians. We literally stole indigenous children from their homes, put them in residential schools and then basically tortured them starting in the 1860s and “ending” in 1997. But the after effects are still felt. We even put them on reserves and then denied them access to food, purposefully trying to kill them. Now indigenous people suffer from inter generational trauma which causes alcoholism and drug abuse as well as property. ALSO many reserves are WITHOUT clean water and a water bottle costs $10 and up. And the food.... so freaking expensive.

    I think it's very telling that the issue most people in the comments see with this video is the fact that Nia was "the lead" but was not featured as much as Maddie. The issue that sticks out to me is the use of a headdress and face paint, which are stereotypical adornments associated with Native Americans. I'm not Native American, and neither is anyone who was involved in choreographing or performing this dance. The adults in this situation should know better than to potentially offend an entire culture for a competition group dance.

    I love how everyone is talking about how Nia should have been in the front for more of the dance when they should be talking about how racist and offensive this dance is. I wish people would realize that just because your favourite show is doing this doesn’t mean it’s ok or not racist. KeithKogane IsLife! Nia putting the headdress on the ground alone is a big issue and only REAL chiefs wear them. They are a cultural symbol to native Americans, I highly doubt you are one.

    • @ani-fj8wi
      @ani-fj8wi Před 4 lety +9

      Júlia Dobó obviously you don’t understand the significance of a headdress in Native American culture. I am not “butthurt” I am simply saying that it is not right to wear a headdress unless it is EARNED. Imagine if they did something that had to do with blackface or yellowface? They would be cancelled right away and people would hate them. But hey I guess Native American culture isn’t as significant and people can still wear costumes and name teams that mock us. Please educate yourself next time.

    What amazes Me is that Abby had said that acrobatics was not chloe's forte, but to me she did that backflip very well, just goes to show that if abby would of work with her she would of had her front aerial too. She would get more complicated pieces to perform. Just imagine the level of difficulty that could be added to her dancing.
