tip I learned a long long time ago. Make yourself a "T" out of 2x4. Long straight part to go between the front wheel and bottom triple, short cross part going across the forks. This keeps the front suspension from moving, and you don't have to compress when strapped down which can lead to fork seal damage. Plus, I've seen straps come off when the fork compresses going over large bumps.
That is a good tip, I have one that I use
I have a versa haul carrying my 400 pound bike Plus about 100 pound for the versa haul .My van was very low in the back and high in the front when bike was on back .So I added Monroe air shocks in rear I got off amazon under hundreds. Bucks installed my self .My van now is level when bike is on back of van .I recommend air shocks in rear to level your vehicle.
Good idea
Good illustration! You made that look easy, makes me feel better about me loading a Vespa on it with my replaced knee.
It’s pretty nice
Nice I would double up the ratchet straps
Wow, way faster and easier than trying to maneuver a motorcycle into the bed of a pickup.
Oh yea a lot better
Great video
I bought a used one and carry my Zuma 125 on the front of my truck camper. So I can pull my fishing boat. I love it!!!
Awesome
Nice unit, but 😀 it needs non slip sticky tape stuff on the ramp for wet tyres. The front wheel chock should be longer to stabilise the bike more. Gotta put a shocker stand thingy between the top of the wheel and under the gaurd to stop too much shocker compression for the seals. compression. Nice video again and now I know where to put the locking clamp for the tow bar to stop the wobble. Ha used alot of tech terms today, just woke up. Cheers.
Great video. Much thanks for your time.
Very helpful. I'm not great at these kinds of things and you took the guesswork out of it! Thank you.
Thanks for watchin
I have that model jeep rubi 4 door 2008. Carry in a hitch rack similar to this. The versahauler plus the weight of your bike may exceed the hitch weight. If I take a 300 lbs Honda xr650r I use the carrier like this, amc400. Big straps with closed loops. Any other situation I can think, I use an ultimate mx jack rack. Much easier, safer to load, locks bike on, it stays on via foot pegs. No movement.
I find that the front tire turns slightly when using the front plate the Versahaul comes with. I ordered an adapter from them that will allow me to use a tire chock on the front of the unit. I'm hoping that keep the tire straight ahead.
I recommend Puting grip tape on ramp and main part where it sits so it doesn't slip and slide
I did, I ordered some that was 7” wide. Works great
I am getting my 2019 CRF250L this Friday, I need one of these for my Wrangler thanks a lot for this well made video!!
Jean-François Desrosiers Your welcome
Great job
Looks like a nice hauler. Good point about the license plate and the upside down tie downs.
Thanks for watchin
with that 5 degree departure angle, flat land all the way or nothing is your new motto
Thanks for this. Just bought a used one same model.
Your welcome, thanks for watchin
I got one, great for off-road use. Very secure!
Yes it sure is, I love mine for the Wrangler.
I still have it but I don’t use it now that I have the Gladiator. I need to sell it
@@WOODZMAN i just installed a reciever on my Jl do you want to sell me your rack? I live in Minnesota so you would have to ship it to me.
Awesome
Thanks for watchin Biry
I have a dr350s and a carrier too. Hope to be tearing up a few fire trails once i get the idle dialed in!
A trick that I've seen truckers do is they will twist the strap once or twice, that help to keep it from flapping in the wind.
Yea that does work pretty good, With it being right behind the Jeep, I don’t think they will flap anyway
Good video. Thank you.
Thanks for watchin
Great video no music fab
Woodzman is the man!! When I grow up I want to be just like Frank!!😀 So many toys and so little time..😮
Lol yea so little time !
Nice!! It can even carry my fat dr650. 500 pounds / 230kg is impressive!
Oh yea. That would work
Nice video. Thank you. I just bought one of these. Very useful to watch your build and install. I feel good to go!
Sweet! Thanks for watchin
Thank you sir
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watchin
Great video! Helps me getting my used Versa Haul set up properly. Thank you!
Your welcome thanks for watchin
Thanks for the video. After watching a few weeks ago I decided on this very carrier. I will being putting it on our Winnebago, Mercedes, Via 25 ft motorhome, and will haul our Vespa so that we can run in to town without having to pack up the motorhome. I did buy the light kit also. The carrier is in boxes out in the garage having arrived yesterday and now I don’t have to try and cyfer the manual. Thanks again for your video. VeloGuy, The Quotidian Cyclist
Your welcome. It’s a well made carrier for sure. So easy to use.
Looks so cool on the back of your jeep
It is so handy, easy to just put it in and load the bike, I like it a lot better than dragging a trailer around
Thanks! This was very helpful to me.
ramp not included
Yes it is included
Your welcome
That's a slick setup. Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome !
informative, thanks for posting.
Your welcome, I have a Jeep Gladiator now so I am going to sell it!
I’ve been trying to figure out which hitch carrier to get and this video helped make up my mind. Seems like the most well built one around. Thanks for the video!
Oh it’s well built. Works great
Yea I have that one one on my Amazon Store
Wow - looks impressive. I'm looking for something to carry my CRF300 Rally, and this looks perfect. The only problem I have is I'm in the UK, and I can't find a supplier over here...
🤔
Oh yea it’s great for a dual sport
I put my tie downs backwards so my ramp is to the outside. I just find it easier to get the ramp on and off the carrier. Stay safe
I can’t do that because of the spare tire
I figured the tire was in the way putting the ramp in the inside and thought I would let you know what I did. Oh Well I tried to help. Stay safe
Good video! Thanks
Your welcome
Very nice addition!
Yea it’s gonna be nice for sure ! Thanks for watching
I need need one for my Jeep Cherokee Sport & CRF250L.
Great Vid!
I love it, I just used it today to haul my 250l
Man, so sweet! Smart move Bro’.
Thanks, I used it today, drove about 200 miles round trip, hauled the bike down to so forest roads In Arkansas. It worked like a champ
I cant believe their are no threaded bolt holes for the receiver tube, the bolts act more like a wedge, seems like a weak link, I had the double ramp quad holder back in the day i don't recall this install like that.
I was curious / worried whether stabilizer would mount on my Subaru Outback - looks like it will be fine. Thanks for the detailed video!
Will the front wheels stay on the ground of the car?
Lol yea
Twist the straps first, then they won't flap in the wind
Your right, I do that but didn’t in the video
Nice video. Thanks. I'm about to get a Wrangler too so I was curious how a bike rack would fit. Has the bike fallen off on rough roads? I noticed you didn't put the stopper between the front wheel and the mudguard. The hooks on the straps could easily come out when the suspension on the front of the bike compresses over bumps.
It works great, i do have a stopper now that i use
Awesome bike carrier
However with my My 450RL with a Recluse clutch I needed a front wheel chock.I ordered one from a distributor and just received it.
It’s a American made bracket with a Harbor freight wheel chock.
Extremely disappointed
I feel ripped off!!
Glad to see you have came back to the CRF250l!! Hope all has been well with you and your family. I noticed that you have a motorcycle lift. What brand/ model did you purchase and what are your thoughts. Thanks again. God is GREAT!
Thanks ! A friend gave me that lift, it was only 4 feet long so I added on to each end, it is super now. It’s some kind of a lift out of a factory
At 3 times the cost of other brands, I would hope it's the best.
Very nice unit.
I have a lesser model of the same thing. I love mine & have hauled the KLX many miles & the big ol KLR, before that.
I haven’t hauled the Versys yet.
I think that one can get hauled on the trailer.
Yours should hold up nicely & greatly enhance your motorbike hauling experience !
👍
I hauled the bike on it 200 miles today, we went down in Arkansas, unloaded it and went for a ride. It was so easy to use, a lot better than a trailer.
Am I seeing that right, are none are those bolts are actually bolting into the tubes?
That’s nice I wonder if it can be mounted on the back of a camper?
Looks like this would almost work on my Jeep but I think I would still need an extension because of my spare
It is made to work with the spare
I bet my DR would be a bear putting up there lol
Lol
Nice review. It would make a lot more sense to *loop* the rear strap through and around the rear wheel, instead of just passing it over the wheel.
You could, but 1 side of the strap don’t tighten as well because it don’t slip in the tire, Trump me if you have knobs on the tire it won’t move
Hey, I recently purchased the same rack and have it on a jeep wrangler like yours. It seems like mine bends down or close down a little bit because yours do the same?
Bends ? What hitch do you have on your wrangler ?
I did later add air bags in my rear springs and the helped hold the jeep up
How has this product held up?? Have you considered a follow up video on pro’s & cons? Thanks again, I really enjoy all of your videos.
It’s awesome, I would make another video but I sold the Wrangler and have a Gladiator so now I don’t use it anymore
This thing looks like it's gonna be really noisy with all the "Clips" And is it me, or does it still wobble?
i dont notice it being noisy and it dont wobble much because it has the anti wabble bracket to tighten up and hold it
Hi. Question. Do you think I'm able to tow the bike and a trailer connected to it?? I'm moving to another state. Thanks
You probably could as lone as it’s not a big trailer
I thought about 1 of those versus using my trailer, my only concern is if another vehicle was to rear end me to possibly damage the dirt bike and the outcome.
That could happen
@@WOODZMAN A couple years ago I was rear ended whereas an ALIEN pushed another vehicle into me, the ALIEN got charged, I was lucky not to be towing my bike that day.
You should do a video showing the bike and the camper both attached
I don’t think that the Wrangler would handle both but I’m not sure
WOODZMAN ADVENTURES you could show what the wrangler would look like if the camper was attached without moving
The capacity on the link above says 3000 pounds max no matter the vehicle! I think it would be too much weight.
Yea my camper weighs like 2900lb
When hitting a bump, what prevents the bike from coming out of the track? I know the strapping down of the bike should prevent this, but you can only strap down so tight. Thank you for the video, I’m searching for my first hauler.
I have never had a problem with that as long as it’s strapped good.
Good day
I got a question i own jeep as well
Im on the way to buy a similar motorcycle carrier and wondering how the jeep performs after all this time
If you would modify or reinforce anything
It did pretty good, I don’t have the wrangler now, I bought a gladiator
@WOODZMAN probably what i should have done lol
Tks for the info
This my friend is the bomb, I love it. I am definitely going to be buying one for my jeep. I have been wanting to take my bike with me when we go to the farm, but my jeep wont pull a big trailer, this will be perfect,. Thanks so much for taking the time share this video with us. I love it and will defiantly be using your link to buy this.
Thanks again and have a blessed week
Dale
Your so welcome ! I hauled the bike on it 200 miles today, we went down in Arkansas, unloaded it and went for a ride. It was so easy to use, a lot better than a trailer.
Where do you get the tail lights
amzn.to/3Fuqx2Q
Hi, I really like all of your videos. Is it possible with regard to your hitch mount rack you could do a video discussing bike weight, rack weight and max tongue weight of your Jeep. A lot of vehicles have 350 pound max tongue weight. Would a bike and rack that comes close to the 350 pound limit be a problem when you consider the lever system force that is created when driving and hitting bumps or G outs in the road
I am assuming your Jeep is at the 500 max tongue weight limit ? What are your thoughts
Thanks, Rich
You are exactly right on the weight and my max tongue weight is like 350. It still isn’t bad but I did add air bags into the springs and that works pretty good
Habla mucho. Spok mutch.
Very cool. I wonder if my Rubicon could handle the Versahaul that holds two bikes??? What do you think?
Not sure about that, I doubt it, the Rubicon is the same weight capacity as mine.
Besides suspension and handling concerns I was always curious if the hitch itself can handle the loads and could possibly snap from all the lever system forces
Well it handles my travel trailer just fine and I have pulled it over 1500 miles. And it’s more of a laid than the hitch rack.
put a twist in the strap and it will not flap
That is true
great video. have you had problems going through tight trails? or parking ? thanks
No it not bad but if you go through rough stuff like big dips of ledge rocks it will drag
That's sweet to bad the old Africa twin wouldn't fit on it.
Yea that would be more than the Wrangler would want lol
Good video. What type of air suspension did you put on your Jeep?
I just had the air bags in the springs. It worked
What about displaying car number plate?
You can take your tag off and put it on the carrier, there is places to bolt it
Well, that all went well..!!
Oh yea it’s great. I really like it.
Excellent install, top notch carrier, Woodzman!
It is extremely well made and no kidding, it save a lot of trouble.
Ride on!
Nice vid, blue threadlocker on all bolts?
Yes except for the 3 bolts on the tilt lock bracket
We got the dual carrier and are unsure of how to mount the rear wheel. The dual carrier only comes with the front bar that goes under the wheel stop, and not two bars for each carrier. Their tech support is a complete joke and no one there can help. Any suggestions?
Are you using it on a Wrangler ? I’m not sure if any dual carrier will work on a wrangler because of the spare tire
Great video after reading some of the comments it kind of answer my question but I'd like to ask you directly if you think that carrier could haul a small 1957 nimrod pop-up camper behind it? It's so light I can pick it up and push it around the yard by hand so it should be well under 3000 lb I race in my state and surrounding states do you see any problem towing a small light camper behind that motorcycle carrier? Thanks
It’s a heavy built tube but I would hate to say for sure. I would contact VersaHaul and make sure.
Do you think we can mount that rack on the back of the rv? Glad you are back on the 250!!
Yea it can be as long as the RV is good enough to hold it. Thanks Richard
Question if anybody in these comments can answer or you yourself I have a 37 inch tires actually I have a 35 inch tires on the back do you think that would still work or what size tires do you have on there
I used it with 33’s and it worked, the foot peg did touch the tire but worked fine
How can I get one in Germany? And why they never have backlights and a numberplate to put on. Said...
Yea the have tail lights but you have to order them separate for some reason. Did you try contacting them?
When I tried using a hitch carrier with a similiar bike on the TJ Unlimited it had way too much squat. Before the airbags did you find this to be the case with the JK Unlimited? My Ram 1500 handles the hauler fine.
Yea that is why I got the air bags
How much room was left between the spate tire and bike? I only ask because I have a 12 inch wide spare tire back there.
The foot-peg touched so i took a cord ant tied it back so it don’t touch the spare
@@WOODZMAN thank you is your receiver in line with the the spare tire or does the spare tire stick out further than the receiver?
The receiver is stock, the hitch rack it extended and made for a Jeep with a spare tire
where did you get the anti tilt lock bracket? That looks beefier than any one I have seen so far
It came with my hitch rack, they sell them on there web site
Does the air lift increase the tongue weight capacity?
Yes
Are you going to try to travel with bike on rack and camper in tow? What is rating of wrangler for towing?
No, that would be to much for the Wrangler I think
The Wrangler tow weight is 3500lb
What can you do about your brake lights turn signals and license plate being blocked on your jeep?
I installed the light kit that they make for it. Also the plate can be moved to the hitch rack, there is a place for it
I have this rack for sale because I have a Gladiator now and don’t need it
Is that the standard hitch? I read it has a tounge rating on 350lbs so with the Crf and the weight of the carrier that would be getting close to the max...correct?
That is correct
Thanks for the info. Can it hold a 77 inch long e bike?
Length of carrier rail: 71.5 in
I’m using it for my ebike
I want one
It’s great ! I hauled it 200 miles today and it was perfect
Hi! Would you still recommend this carrier. Looking for a solid carrier.
Oh yes, this one is very well made. I love it. It’s for sale but I do live in Missouri
does the anti wobble thing come with the rack?
Yes it does
Would this work on a 2 door 2018 Rubicon jk?
It should. As long as your hitch load is enough
Hi there! I have a Jeep as well and want to get something like this. I’ve read that my Jeep only supports 350lbs of tongue weight. I’m looking at a black widow brand (aluminum) to save weight. But looks like I’ll be right at the 350 lb mark. Did you notice any negative effects on your Jeep?
It did lower the rear a little. Air bags help a lot
@@WOODZMAN I guess other than the sag; I was just worried it would damage the frame the hitch bolts to? I guess not...
It should be fine as long as you have the good hitch
@@WOODZMAN That’s what I thought. What hitch would you recommend?
This is what I had amzn.to/3eKSvLs
can you tow a small trailer camper on that?
With the jeep ?
Yes, Jeep - bike carrier - small camper ; or camper trailer pulling the bike carrier with rear hitch?
I would think so, but I don’t know for sure
Whats you axel ratio?
3.73
Thinking about buying one of these. Is it still holding up?
It’s great. Works like a champ. They make them cheaper but not as good
I’ve seen some cheaper units out there, but I’m not so sure they’re a good idea.
Jason Barton Yea a friend had one and it kept cracking. This one is a good one. I have the Amazon link in the description
Seems easier than the Mo-Tow variation I own, haven't been able to load mine solo as yet. Might have to reverse it so front tyre is on left (Can assemble anyway to suit) and attempt to load that way - perhaps by feathering clutch. Check out our initial thoughts here - czcams.com/video/VFJ4u23mj5o/video.html
The ramp on that Mo-Tow looks pretty short, that would make it harder also the platform is no flat so it wouldn’t roll as easy, mine is extremely easy to load, I have loaded and unloaded it about 5 time now with ease. One thing that helps in mine is that the Wrangler has the Spare tire and after I get mine loaded, I can lean it against the spare, the foot peg hits the tire and will hold the bike while I get my tie downs. I definitely need to get a tail light kit for it, before I get a ticket lol
I’m thinking about hooping this up on my grand Cherokee...check my channel out to see how my set up would work
$600 ridiculous .
