  • In this video, I describe my four-step process to setting my 2018 goals. The four steps are:
    Step 1. Brain dump everything I think I want to achieve in 2018.
    Step 2. Select only the essential goals.
    Step 3. Establish habits to achieve these essential goals.
    Step 4. Schedule habits into my daily schedule.

    Hi! I just have a little thing to add. My work schedule is really inconsistent so weekly schedule can't really work much for me. So instead, I make a kind of schedule based on the greatest factor, for example whether I work indoor or outdoor, or I just have to meet clients. So my schedule is for each case, not based on the days of the week. Because one case might happen a lot more than the others (for example my outdoor work schedule), sometimes I also put some alternatives for it so I don't get bored. Thanks for your videos! Great content as always. Cheers!

    Am anxiously awaiting to see a notification of your plan for 2019. I seem to finally (at age 48) have the strength and courage to follow some personal dreams and aspirations and I find your videos extremely realistically approached and encouraging. Smiles

    I am about to start my fourth semester as a PhD student, and I am so grateful for your content! I have been spending the past three days trying to schedule the upcoming semester and your videos/IG posts have helped me tremendously. I know this may not be relevant to everyone in your audience, but I would love to learn how you set up your pipeline for multiple research projects! I would appreciate any tips or resources :)

      Hello! I'm glad to know that my videos and IG posts have been helpful. I'm sorry to say that I've decided that for 2018, I'm going to try and focus more on teaching and data analytical skills and to focus on only one research project. Because all other research projects are on hold, I do not have a multiple research projects pipeline. However, here are some research and time-management related resources that I used to rely on that you might find useful:
      1. Raul Pacheco-Vega's blog: www.raulpacheco.org/resources/
      2. Matt Might's blog: matt.might.net/articles/productivity-tips-hints-hacks-tricks-for-grad-students-academics/
      I'm guessing you probably already have heard of the Thesis Whisperer and the Research Whisperer. But if you haven't, here are the links to them as well:
      3. Thesis Whisperer (thesiswhisperer.com/)
      4. Research Whisperer (theresearchwhisperer.wordpress.com/)
      From the above links, I think you'd be able to snowball to more resources as well.
      Good luck with your PhD. It is a tough journey and, in my own experience, a very lonely one. Please make sure you keep a strong support network and if you need someone to talk to, you may email me at yukikonsakamura@gmail.com =) All the best for 2018!

      Raul Pacheco-Vega's blog is awesome! Thank you so much for the information and the encouragement :) I wish you all the best with your teaching and analytical skills training this upcoming 2018. I will be taking my comprehensive exams next summer so I might take you up on your email offer, I hear people reach their breaking points a couple of months prior the exam lol I am lucky I have my family and friends near, though :)
      Once again, thank you and I look forward to more amazing content!

      The weekly spread is my "Ideal Week" template! This idea came from Michael Hyatt. You can see his post about it here: michaelhyatt.com/ideal-week/ =) Someday, I will make a video about my "ideal week" template. Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and an amazing New Year! All the best in 2018!

    #4 is so hard!! Alarms on my phone? A device that sends an electric shock to me through my watch? For me, it’s all about daily habits, but remembering to do them is another matter when life seems to always be at a breakneck pace.

      I 100% agree with you! #4 is so hard! I haven't been learning R for a couple of weeks. I keep telling myself, when the busy period ends, I'll go back to learning R. But... The busy period never seems to end :'(

    Beautiful weekly spread. Do you stick to the schedule and do your energy levels throughout the day come into play?

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety +10

      Most of the time, I stick to my schedule until 9am and then it is uncertain how the rest of the day will go. Some weeks, I exercise only 2 times a week because of my work commitments but that's better than nothing... Some days, I don't have time or energy to read before bed and that's okay. For me, the point of having a schedule is to guide my day so that I know what I ought to be doing at certain times but I accept that I need to be flexible depending on the day. =)

    • @ThePlannerProject
      @ThePlannerProject Před 6 lety +2

      Good to know :) One would have to be so extremely disciplined to stick to a schedule that's planned to the last minute. My brain is more task-oriented so I would never be able to stick to specific times.

    This is great! It's a good guide for when I reassess my goals for next year. Have you done a video already about your shutdown routine? I think that's a great thing to add into your day so I'd be interested in hearing about what you do. :)

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety

      Hi Ashley! I haven't done a video on my shutdown routine because it is very simple. Here it is! I shutdown my computer, wash my cups (I use multiple cups in the office), pack my bag, clear my desk of everything, leave notes on my desk for myself if necessary so that when I come into office the next day, I won't forget that item, and that's it. =)

      I keenly await your next video. Your videos were my primary motivation to buy the Hobonichi. 😊 I was in a Jibun Techo (which provided a spread for an “ideal week”). But seeing your innovations with the HTC made me realize I did not want to sacrifice the daily pages (not a feature of the JT) It appears the Nolty also does not have daily pages? Anyway, I can’t wait! 😊

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety

      @jsbutterfly11 Oooh! I saw the JT in Tokyo recently. If you buy the complete set, it comes with the planner, a life book, and an ideas book. The ideas book I guess could function like the daily pages in the Cousin? And yes, the Nolty does not have daily pages. I so badly want to use the Nolty because as you can see, the Nolty has exactly the weekly layout that I love so much so I do not need to set up weekly, which is what I do with my Cousin now. But the Cousin suits my needs perfectly otherwise. Arghhhhh. #plannerwoes Well, another 4 days to think about it in my sleep =P

      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Fujiwara, for my Hobonichi Cousin 2017, I'm using the cheap notebook cover from Nanami Paper (www.nanamipaper.com/products/cheap-notebook-cover.html). I believe this notebook cover was designed to fit a thicker A5 notebook and so will fit the full year Cousin. =)

    Did you get the Passion Planner?

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety

      Ah, I think CZcams probably doesn't alert you when I reply to channel comments. It only alerts when I reply to video comments. But here's what I replied to the question you left about the passion planner: "I'm having trouble thinking of ways to use the passion planner. I've spent the past week staring at it and not been able to come up with any ideas which is so rare for me... sobs!!! But I'll keep trying and will update when I eventually figure out what to do with it!"

    • @thatwendygirl68
      @thatwendygirl68 Před 6 lety

      I am hoping the passion planner helps me do a better job in tracking how I am spending my time.

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety

      Out of curiosity... How are you using Passion Planner to do that? Writing down things you did or something? Personally, I find that I'm better at logging down time digitally than on paper. When I wrote my dissertation, I relied on the pomodoro technique and aTimeLogger (Android). aTimeLogger was used to log down only how much time I spent on my dissertation, else it got too overwhelming.

    • @thatwendygirl68
      @thatwendygirl68 Před 6 lety

      i'm not using PP yet because I just ordered it today. I was drawn to it because of Gretchen Rubin (I have analysis paralysis) and noticing that the creator of PP mentions this as well. but YOU are the person who got me looking at the passion planner.

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  Před 6 lety

      Haha, I remember that I told you I was getting a Passion Planner and then you took a look at it and told me that it was my fault if your husband saw another planner in the house =P Please tell me how you're setting up the passion planner when you get it ok! I am so frustrated at my inability to use the Passion Planner I need some inspiration!
