  • The Bowring Shruti Pedal allows musicians to precisely pump the shruti box with their foot, while freeing up their hands to play another instrument such as a guitar, a handpan, a flute, or in this case, a djembe. Add in your voice and you've got a huge sound!

    Super ❤. I have a question : is there some Lyrics in that or purely sounds or mantra. Great rythmes too. Love that

    • @didgeproject
      @didgeproject  Před 2 měsíci +1

      This is a well known mantra: “Om asatoma sat gamaya, tamasoma jyotir gamaya, mrityorma amritam gamaya”. Om, lead us from darkness to light, lead us from the unreal to the real, from death to immortality.

    How frequently do you have to push the pedal? It looks like you're having to push it quite rhythmically. I want to use a Shruti box to generate drones while I practice my soprano, but I don't want to have to focus on the pedal too much.
    Very cool playing!

    • @didgeproject
      @didgeproject  Před 2 lety +2

      You only need to push it every few seconds. but if you do it more frequently as Jerry does here, it works just fine. You really just need to find the right balance of pressure to get the continuous sound. Cheers!

    That box sounds like a hurdy gurdy. What’s the difference between the two

    • @greynose5650
      @greynose5650 Před 11 měsíci

      the sound production is different. basically the shruti box uses air to vibrate reeds like a harmonium. a hurdy gurdy rubs sinew/string on a rotating bit of wood, not air. very oversimplified explanation.
