Dyslexia is not taken nearly as seriously as it should be. This is an issue that affects 43.5 million Americans for their whole lives. Thank you, your speech was powerful.

My son was labeled the "dumb kid" in elementary school. I feared he was word blind. Now, at 17, he gets subtlety in language more than most. His vocabulary is so far above his friends that they have to ask him what he means. Dyslexia is hard when you learn to read. But it is so much more than that. It is a unique way to see.

I have dyslexia (and the typical co-occurring conditions too: dyspraxia, ADHD, autism, and my favorite: ODD.) So when I was in HS, the guidance counselor asked me what I wanted to go to college for. I said English. He laughed at my face and told me to “get serious about my future because English obviously is not an option for someone who is dyslexic.” So I earned a bachelors in English. Then a masters in English. And I graduated 2 weeks ago with a PhD in English. So, yeaaa

This is my life and my story and as a teacher now I face this battle and fear others noticing. Thanks for wording and speaking this.

Outstanding! I teach many kids with learning differences. Different does not mean slow! It means extraordinary.

Thank you for articulating this so well. Also, I think spelling bees should be illegal 😂. I once put a university essay in late because I forgot how to spell my last name. It fucking sucks and no matter how much I learn or how many times people would tell me to 'try harder' I still end up feeling lesser than my peers. I agree, words are really hard.

I feel like this was speak about myself as a child and now. I would not say I have it but I do come close to some of the problem you face with it.

Because this wasn’t my experience with Dyslexia, I didn’t know I had it until I was an adult.

A beautiful curse. Yes brother, I have it. I hated it in school. I learned to love it after I quit school. And today, I am back in school, but this time I am that teacher I wish I had back then, looking for the kid I was back then. They call us "short bus" but now I call them neurotypicals. Real life muggles calling us names, fine. Look at the list of great dyslexics and then try to name as many great neurotypicals.

But what about if you're on Facebook in your writing things but you're speaking to the phone and the phone is typing things and your phone is being hacked by an outside source that doesn't like the fact that you're on Facebook because she or either a threat or they're worried about you leaving them and so they say put a punctuation here in a color my hair which I don't care cuz all I have is time and a thymus with abling me to get things done the more I speak the more I educate tomorrow indicate the more I prevent other people from falling on their face where I've been and I've heard that there's people that are sitting and bullying me for what I'm writing the talking s*** and gossiping it's in the Grapevine and I'm one of those people that don't care if they like what I say but I know when things happen they don't mind coming my way and asking what do I do can you take a look at this

I can answer the black part for you: As a black person you are under immense pressure to be more than. So having a learning disability puts a black person at the bottom of the bottom.
      Hope this helps.
      Sorry about your trophy.
