  • Modbus RTU is a great protocol , however a lot of people get turned down if they don't find a template at www.library.loxone.com
In the video I go through how to Connect RS485 ports, baud rate, parity, stop bits and most importantly how to configure the Modbus Registers in Loxone Config.
    Loxone Hardware:
    shop.loxone.co...
    shop.loxone.co...
100A CT Clamp Modbus Energy Meter used:
    amzn.to/4cvy8g6
Library Template to be uploaded :)
    Any questions, comment below

Thanks for sharing. For long-term accurate readings of total consumption, I would probably use the registers from the "Total energy accumulator" section instead. Active Power becomes less accurate with lower poll frequency because it does not know when, if, or how consumption changed between readings.
Also, there is a cheaper option: you can connect a pulse consumption meter to a digital input. It can be two or three times cheaper, and you don't need a Modbus extension. The downside is that you need a digital input for each meter, and you can only read consumption.

100% agree, do you have any specific Pulse meters in mind? The OB115 also supports pulse metering on the S0, but definitely not the cheapest..

Very interesting video, thanks! I was wondering how you add more than 1 device. I understand your device was preset to address #1, what if your other device has the same? I am doing my first Loxone project and are about to start adding 3 modbus meters to my modbus extension and wonder if you have some advice!

Thanks, on most devices you can set the ID/address either manually or via some kind of interface. So the next one will be 2, then 3 etc up to 32 devices. All of them are wired in a daisy chain with a resistor at the end of the line.

can you use Modbus rs light switch? as they are way cheaper?

Yes, but it does depend on the switch and how configurable the protocol is
