Repair Rotting Exterior Door Jamb with Bondo Filler - DIY Wood Water Damage Fix

- My exterior side garage door experienced rotting of the door jamb and casing. This is a common problem, as water often pools at the bottom of exterior doors, allowing water to be absorbed into the wood surrounding the door. I could have replaced the door and jamb assembly, but this would have required significant time and money. Also, replacing the jamb with a wood product may eventually result in the same failure anyway. I chose instead to remove the rotted wood and fill with a Bondo brand filler meant for exterior home use. The two part epoxy filled the hole, leaving a hard and durable surface. With primer and paint applied, the repaired door jamb prevents water from entering my garage, and the new surface is no longer prone to rot.

Great vid! Short sweet and to the point.
This was helpful. Thank-you for posting
Planning to try it on the rotten bottom of the garage door instead of replacing the whole door. Hope it'll work. Thank you for sharing.
any experience with DAP Platinum Patch 32-oz Heavy Duty, Waterproof Exterior White Spackling (at Lowe's)? looks like it doesn't require mixing. i'm filling in some rotten spots at the bottom of a garage door panel.
I used a few other non-epoxy fillers that did not last long outdoors. Although, I have not used DAP.
Will the rot continue if you didn't manage to clean/cut it all out before applying the Bondo?
No, as long as water is prevented from contacting bare wood. Rot requires water to continue spreading.
DAP ?
Nooooo! You didn’t!!!!!!!
