Can’t believe it’s been 24 years since I worked on this. The pre-rendered scenes were added right at the end of Production by a different company. We couldn’t believe that they’d been allowed to bend the characters’ limbs - we had been told not to for the in-game characters. Great fun to work on though. 😊
You made my childhood so much better and fun, thank you for this. I remember showing this game to my dad, who really liked chess, and we played together, happy memories
lego cutscenes hit different from the 90s/early 2000s, loved this game so much as a kid and the cutscenes were great used to always want the sets from them and now age 25 I own them all haha
I remember playing this on our old family computer back in the late 90's. The animation for the cutscenes here (not the pre-rendered openings) were way choppier than this video- they'd play at the same speed but the framerate was like 5 frames per second, so it looked more like a slideshow than a smooth animation. But I had nothing to compare it to at the time and I could still tell what was happening, so I just figured that's just how it was animated normally.
the capture scenes was like the best thing about this game the only mistake was they should have done king captures which presents when you get checkmate heck if its remastered add alot more themes and do more capture scenes like these
8:47: All the cutscenes are pretty much parodies of MAD's famous Spy VS Spy and Looney Toons, thumbs up if you agree. I'm telling you man, back when I had this game, I had both AI on, just so I could watch all cutscene intermissions

Aw, the nostalgia. I didn't even know how to play chess when this game came out, but my sister played it a lot and I loved the goofy cutscenes.
