Thank you for taking time to share knowledge. I learn a lot from your videos. I see you use PLD 4.x and set max power on the amp. I some times use SM115V for FOH and Monitor. I also use Bose 802s (240W cont.) for certain genre that needs rich mid tone. My amp is GX7. Both speakers handle GX7 at full power just below clipping. But I am afraid they will blow up. Particularly the 802s. What is the best way to set max output based on the speaker rating for amps that do not have adjustible voltage output? Other than use resistive load and multimeter etc.
Thank you for your comment. The GX7 amplifier may be too powerful to safely run the 802 speakers. You may need to turn the input attenuators (on the amplifier) down a few db. This may provide some level of protection, but will not completely protect the speakers. The 802 speakers will probably fail due to overheating of their individual speakers (because of the power from the GX7 amplifier). You may want to consider using a lower wattage amplifier, or simply do not turn up the power too much on the GX7 amplifier. If you want to continue to use the GX7, you will need to be careful how loud you run it!
I've never used Yamaha speakers. I admit I'm a bit of an EV fan. It seems a lot of people love to chase numbers when it comes to speakers and are of the impression more watts means more volume. Granted, it's kinda true but we know there's more to it than that. Having looked up the specification for the monitors you're using with a sensitivity of 99dB/1W/1m, 175W for stage monitors is more than sufficient...for most of the shows I do, that would be enough for front of house tops. The speakers I'm using for FOH (and sometimes monitors) are the EV ELX-200-12; they're far less sensitive than the CM12's at 93dB/1W/1m but are capable of substantial SPLs with the amplifiers I'm using (rated at 350WRMS); I don't get anywhere close to the limits of the system...I reach my limits before I see a single "limit" or "clip" LED. :D
Hi can you advice Me? I have a behringer EP1500 amp, connected (wired up) to two Pules 350 to 700 watt 8 ohm stage speakers. I pluged a output from My 350 watt tectonic headphone Jack into the input of the bahringer. The sound is very low and only getting part of the audio signal sounds like when a headphone Jack is not all the way connected half the frequency of the sound is missing. Is this because the signal is not strong enough? Do I need a pre amp or mixer?
From what you provided, sounds like there is an impedance mis-match between the input of the Behringer and the output of the Technonic. A pre-amp may be needed between the two.
@@stageleftaudio I can add that I tried using My tablet as the sound source and it did the exact same sound. I'll have a look a getting pre amp however I have seen videos of this amp getting its input from a phone.
The Behringer amp is probably needing a +4db input signal. Small devices like your tablet usually do not have the needed power to drive a +4db input. A pre-amp will probably be needed.
Cost can be a big factor between passive and powered cabinets. Passive cabinets usually cost a lot less than powered. However, you will need an amplifier. Powered cabinets are good, but they do cost a lot more and will require an electrical cord for them to work (which can equal more cables on the stage). Using powered or passive is a personal decision.

Speakers have their place in the audio world. Speakers are tools... some tools are better for certain jobs than other tools. It depends on how and where the speakers will be used. Experience with those speakers (like most any speakers) can be very subjective. I have no experience with any of those brands, however, I think the Harbinger brand is owned by Guitar Center.

Interesting. This is first sound guy whose said to match amps to speakers based on the lowest rating.
Entertaining as always! Thanks.
Thanks again!

EV does make some great speakers. Thanks for your comment.
Wattage means nothing without knowing the sensitivity when you want to know how loud they can get.
Exactly.

Powered or passive speakers for monitors? Which type should we choose?

Are there some brands of passive pro audio speakers that are extinct aka did exist but now a days impossible to get.
Yes. Most any speaker manufacturer has lines of gear that have been replaced with newer versions.
isn't it RMS/CONTINUES/PEAK in that order normally?
It's actually CONTINUOUS/RMS/PEAK - there is an ascending (and descending) 3db difference between each rating.
that was very nice speaker and expensive
They have worked well for us over the years.
Good day always wonder why you don’t have your own bass rig for your shows like a Hartke bass head with bass cabs
We are a service based company that provides sound reinforcement for events. We do not carry instrument amplifiers.
@@stageleftaudio ok clearly understood for me I always have to provide rigs for musicians lead guitar bass guitar keyboards they never seems to have their own 🤣
That makes sense. Sounds like you are providing a "back-line" service; this is something that we do not provide.
Are brands of pa speakers like Rockville and Pyle and Harbinger brands that are overrated.
