I've been told that it's a tactic used to keep the abuse hiden.
That’s exactly what my mother did. As soon as CPS was called by the school she took me out of school… They never checked on us
CPS may not have known since homeschooling is legal in the US and generally isn’t reported to CPS. Even if they did think it was weird, it’s legal and they may not have been able to do anything about it.

Any time a child is pulled our of school to be homeschooled after a cps report is filed, it should be an IMMEDIATE red flag to authorities!! When are they going to learn this?!!?
Yeah, but we're talking about Oregon State. So long as they turn in test scores they don't care. I swear they spent more time poking around where there wasn't a problem. But for the ones who needed help, it was like twisting CPS' arm. It was like their ideals were backward. When you have a child that needs help and they turned around and sent the home it's so frustrating.

I feel like the one where the mom was abusing her older daughter, its almost like she was jealous of her daughter so she abused her. Ive seen that happen to one of my friends growing up, it was terrible, she didnt die but the same things where happening. I told the school numerous times cause i had witnessed it and it somehow always panned out and she would be abused worse and finally she told me to stop trying to help because it was gonna end up killing her so i stopped, It broke me into pieces. Shes alive and well today and has a beautiful family thank goodness
The first story of abuse to that child has me crying and remembering when I was abused by that creature who got away with hurting me on all levels

I understand. One of my cousins was abused by her dad. She once told me that she considers my mom and dad to be her real parents. Unlike her father, my parents have always been there for her and treated her like she was a daughter to them.
THAT 'mother' needed to be locked in prison for ever !. AND those who stood by and did nothing- "Depraved indifference" (a Felony in the USA) and it should be in any country. No excuses- its just pure evil.

Many of us have suffered at the hands of those who were supposed to love and protect us. There is no excuse for what Angela did.

I was lucky. My parents were a little strict and overprotective at times, but ultimately very loving and sacrificed a lot for me and my siblings. One of my cousins even sees my mom and dad as her parents because her dad was often abusive.

The first story reminds me of the Sylvia Likens story. Everyone failed Jeanette as soon as Jeanette was taken out of school, the school should’ve checked up or CPS should’ve checked up on her. They should’ve demanded to see Jeanette and see the bruises. Anyone that abuses a child deserves the death penalty in my opinion. Until this day, that so-called mother blames Jeanette. Did she hate her daughter because she hated the man she had her by, so she took her anger out on Jeanette. My heart goes out to her. I hope she rest in peace because that’s the only peace she ever gotten her short life. I hope that monster got abused in jail, from what I hear inmates don’t like child k******.

I thought Sylvia's story was terrible, but this almost tops that because it went on longer- years instead of months. And her own mother, there was no hope. being whipped until the skin tore off her hips.... it hurts enough to get whipped without marks. Among other things, broken front teeth, starvation, cut bruised face...Angela should have gotten the same, she had a choice.
As for school, she wasn't "taken out" which would draw attention, just never enrolled when new year started for HS after having graduated middle school.
How can the school let that poor girl go home to her evil vile mother? And why didn’t the stepdad and siblings come forward?? Absolutely despicable!!!!!

What’s sad about the 1st story is that my sister and I lived this kind of life ( my younger sister got the worst of it ) we were both beaten and starved for 5 1/2 years until a report was made the only difference is that it was our Aunt that did it not our parents. My sister and I were placed in Foster Care at the age of 4 and 6 years old.
I remember watching this the night is premiered with my dog, who we sadly lost a decade ago. I remember when it was announced at the end that Angela McAnulty got the death penalty, I threw my arms up and cheered. I was beyond angry when she was re-sentenced to life without parole...
Who would do that???

The 1st one is so sad. She could’ve been saved had authorities stepped in. I don’t understand why US authorities don’t meddle immediately? Ours prioritizes the victim immediately by taking them out of their homes and going to the doctor for proof of abuse.
In a lot of these places in the U.S., corporal punishment is not only a legal method of 'discipline' but an expected one. Many lawmakers and certain extremist preachers/organizations advocate it. And because physical abuse is by its very nature secretive, it can escalate to torture as people like this Angela woman in the first story carried out.
The abuse of one child over others is called Cinderella Syndrome I think, or Cinderella something. Just horrific.

That's EXACTLY what happened to me as a child!! My older step brother and my younger step sister both belonged to my Step dad.. needless to say I was the red headed stepchild so I was beat with any and everything he could get his hands on!! I always believed that it was because I was the only not blood child that he had to take care of.. it didn't turn me into a murderer though so that's not an excuse! On another note my mom's name just so happens to be Angela too.. wow

Home schooling is generally forbidden in Germany where I'm from. I don't know american laws but I had hoped that some form of authority at least would check on the kids every now and then...
From what I have read, in the U.S. few jurisdictions check up on kids who are homeschooled even when the parent has pulled a child from public school following a CPS report. Usually it's lack of manpower or 'not wanting to interfere with a parent's religious beliefs'. Sometimes, in smaller jurisdictions, the CPS caseworkers are friends or family of the abuser and don't want to see the abuser go to prison so they turn a blind eye to what's going on.

The UK Justice system is a joke. The boy who lowered Deborah from her house. He should have gotten many, many more years and the female that's set it up who slept with the dad and the son. She should have gotten alive too. But I've watched a number of these. And I can't stand how they give people such a little time for these electrocities.

I know people that count cookies eaten and place a bottle in a certain way to see if the bottle has been moved or used. Stingy people like that are despicable. The mentality of lack is something infectious, all family members in those families are not successful, generous or kind. It always infuriates me when this happens and it happens far too often. Regardless of gender, evil is evil and should be stamped out. Justice should not only be done but should also be seen done.
At least it was LWOP (life without parole). In Canada, she would've had a chance at release. Our arrogant Supreme Court justices and lawmakers think EVERY criminal should be given a chance at parole, because punishing a crime is too 'mean' for the poor criminal.

Speaking of animals and pets being abused, that is also Beyond horrible. My best friend donate the considerable amount of money to 🐕 rescues, especially pitbulls.
I was surprised when she told me that when the pandemic was ending and life was returning to normal, people were dropping animals off at the animal shelters or just dumping them. Cuz these puppies and kitties were so cute when they were home.
I live in a rural area and it's really sad to see how many people dump animals. I actually saw a car stopped and the door open and a dog be let out, the door closed and they drove off.
It's sick and it infuriates me. I saw a video online where people put up a camera to catch people dumping their animals. It was crazy that so many were being dumped in that location that a private citizen put up the camera.
The dirt bags of America Must ALL communicate so they know where to dump the animals.
Anyhow, it was nice to see those people catch those that were dumping dogs.
It beyond me how a child in the horrific condition that poor girl was in was passed by so many witnesses for so long and then removed immediately post inquiry from school. No follow up nothing. This is the worst level of abuse and I can't compute how Jeanette wasn't ever saved. The "husband". It's wild how this exists and even worse that it's allowed to by an uncaring society.

A lot of times, a spouse of an abuser - whether it's a man or a woman - will not stop their spouse from abusing their children. They may fear becoming a target of the abuser themselves if they do not support the abuser - never mind reporting them - or they support the abuse of the child that is being scapegoated & abused. Or the abuser may have threatened to leave them and take their children if the spouse reports them. None of these reasons, however, justifies a spouse keeping silent on abuse.
Angela was a horrible person. Not a mother. How can her husband not do anything? That girl was tortured to death. Why was she singled out? Maybe because of who her father was? We’ll never know.

I understand what Angela been going through but she didn’t have to do that to her daughter the same way her dad did to her and her siblings. All she has to do is seek help and healing from a therapy and then this would’ve never happened or if her mom wasn’t murdered, then she wouldn’t do her daughter that way
The worst thing about jeanette maples is that her and her older brothers were taken from their mum when she was 1. The reason was because the mum was abusive. So people knew what the mum was like. Why was she allowed to have jeanette back under her control?
Apparently the step dads mum expressed concerns to child services too so thats got to count in his favour: if his own mum spoke up theres a chance he was only silent out of fear, like the other children.
Jeanette and I are about the same age. I am so lucky that my own mother has always been loving to me and my siblings. She and my dad have even become second parents to one of my cousins whose father abused her.

For almost all women child birth is a shock. The pain is unprecedented and not prepared for in any way, shape or form. Because women see all other women do it and have done it so many times, they don't expect it. So in a weird twisted way, women resent either the father or the first born child. Some times it's both. Because that was when their world was torn apart and their lives changed irrevocably. Angela's case was extreme.
Not today, the past 20 years most women are numb from the waste down, they no longer suffer.

There are many different scenarios and reasons. Some parents have favorites. Usually, a golden child and a black sheep or scape goat.
