Yeah, I know Fuheng decided to move on first, trying to forget Ying Luo and to love pre-betrayal Erqing, but he had no real *choice*. I was hooked on this series until the moment where "lightning struck" (jumped the shark), after that watching it felt like getting tortured slowly.
The whole "young girl wants revenge and guard falls for her" arc worked pretty well even though it was completely unrealistic. However, after that it became so asinine with the whole "now that I had my revenge, why dont I just seduce the Emperor and become Empress as well while I am at it" nonsense! If they had given this Series 30 more Episodes, she would have probably build Spaceships and Conquered the Universe and seduced God Himself!
If it had ended with her taking the ultimate Risk of bringing the Killer of her Sister to justice and giving her own Life for it, I would have regarded this series as one of the Best! Sadly it took a "Game of Thrones" turn.
It started as a Revenge plot and ended up as Feminist Teenage Girl "Wish fulfillment Fantasy". I was so disappointed that I took it personal!
P.S. If you wanna produce a Story based on historic Events than do so from the start and dont mix another Story in it that you then abandon halfway through. Also, after she becomes Empress she gives birth to FOUR Children and still looks like a Teenager at the End. My knowledge of China History is a bit rusted but I am pretty sure they did not have that kind of cosmetic surgery skills at that time.
