Fran definitely paved the way for female puppeteers on the Muppets, Sesame Street, etc! If it wasn’t for her, then women like Leslie Carrara-Rudolph and Stephanie D’Abruzzo wouldn’t have been inspired to go into puppetry!
They should’ve also included Richard hunt as in honorable mention, as he was the original voice/puppeteer for many characters, including scooter, Janice, Gladys the cow, Forgetful Jones…… And the very lovable Beaker.

R.I.P. Jerry Nelson, as well as Jim Henson and Richard Hunt, they gave so many characters life and I'm glad that the company passed them to other performers.

One great thing about The Muppets is that they're the type of celebrities in which you'll never ever have to worry about them becoming from Most Loved to Most Hated like you've seen with plenty of other celebrities on CZcams.
I worked with Jim Henson, frank Oz, and the crew etc on the pilot for the Muppet Show. It was called "Sex and Violence with the Muppets". I was the recording engineer. I used to go up to the studio during breaks and talk with everyone, eat, make suggestions for a better show etc. Jim and Frank were so awesome to talk with

I still remember hearing the news that Jim Henson had died. I was 21, yet felt like I'd lost a part of my childhood 😥 I don't remember hearing that the voice of Snuffleupagus had died. I just might cry again.

I would honestly love to hear how they do some of the puppetry, like how Dr. Teeth's glasses move, how Floyd and Animal blink, and how they made Zoot and Lips move their finger while playing.
Yes! Me too. The behind the scenes technical stuff is an artform. I wonder how you get THAT job and what it involves. That would be so much more interesting than hearing the same old tired canned questions and answers. 3 networks all doing the same interview. It is a wasted opportunity.
technically jim’s wife was the first muppeteer. however fran was such a staple in this craft and she is such an inspiration to this day.

Drove me batty, trying to think of how Fran Brill connects with another bunch of crazies. Then it clicked. She's Sesame Street's Tress McNeil (Dot Warner on Animaniacs) to these crazos. And that's a good thing.

Again with the focus on voices.. -_- If the interviewer watched the documentary as she claimed, she sure did miss the part where they talked about the annoying misconception that all they do is voices. It's so much more than that. And it's disheartening to see yet another example of the media getting that wrong. Frank Oz directly states that he does characters, not just voices. And her response... "Can I hear Animal?" Really? Dx

I agree. These people are some of the greatest puppeteers who ever lived. They strained their arms, and sometimes their vocal cords, for their profession. They are following in the footsteps of one of the greatest artistic geniuses to ever walk the Earth, one of the most innovative entertainers of all time. And yet, puppetry and animatronics (the two very things he was best known for) are still underappreciated by both Hollywood and, sometimes, the media.
The voice acting is excellent, but, it's only part of what makes the Muppets work.

Definitely. Sad how Disney fired him cause he called them out on how the direction they were going was bad.
He is considered , but he joined at 1976 (one year after the Muppet Show started).

He was invited to join but was unable to make it. The movie this is promoting was filmed long before he was fired so it has nothing to do with that.

GMA should have done more research on the basics. For example: they misspelled Dave Goelz's name at 1:04. An insult to such a legend.
They also misspelled Bill Barretta's name as "Bill Baretta".

Bill Barretta isn't an original muppet performer. He didn't start voicing Pepe until 1996 when Muppets Tonight started on TV. He never performed on the original Muppet Show in 1976.
I guess he was invited somehow. Steve Whitmire was invited, but was unable to participate.

You can tell the host…ess was irritated with the title of the documentary and then ironically at the end says “well thank you guys for” and it’s like you don’t even realized how hypocritical you are. I hate the media so much. They’re so fake.
How is she the first woman muppeteer? What about Jane Hanson? Also why always point the first woman out as if its a miracle? Girls are just as good can we just get over it?

The movie was actually filmed back in 2012 so that they could include Jerry Nelson because they knew he was going to pass away soon, which he did later that year. Steve Whitmire was invited to be on it, however he had scheduling conflicts and wasn't able to be a part of it.
