I can tell you that Adam & the Ants reached me in suburban Bergen, Norway in the early 80's. I distinctly remember writing a dissertation on the band for my english class, having to confront my teacher for correcting the spelling of their debut album from "Dirk wears white sox" to ..."socks". And the time the woman in the record shop where I was purchasing Prince Charming called the band "Adam & the Aunts". Guess they weren't part of the Ants Invasion. I sure as hell was.
The Ants were totally unknown in France, especially out of Paris. They never toured except there, they weren’t play on radios, saw them twice on telly ( antmusic and stand & deliver videos), period. But I used to listen to English programs on the short waves. And one night, « A new royal family / a wild nobility... »....

i think probably my first ever view of them. was sat on the floor for some reason and we had no carpet. what a treat this was.
